Its because you are still on 1.1.1 and the phone is a 1.1.2 otb so you have the 4.02.13 modem firmware and that is not compatible with 1.1.1 you have to UPDATE to 1.1.2 after you run oktoprep

    Hey Guys,

Have a major problem with my iphone at the moment, the lower third of the screen no longer picks up on my touch!

I bought the phone over in the states in October?

Any idea how one would go about sending the phone to apple.

Also I have misplaced my iphone earphones, anyone know where to get replacements?

    Thanks

Have you downloaded 1.1.2 on to your PC

If yes then it takes about the same time as it took to down grade to 1.1.1

IF no then you should not be updating as you will get 1.1.3 and a locked iphone

Select setup as new phone then you will be asked if you want to update

Then hold down the shift key and click update and then browse to where you downloaded 1.1.2 click OK

    Hey guys,

Im really thinking about ordering the iPhone right now, but Im just wondering:

Will it work with my vodafone simcard? Or do I have to unlock it?

When will the shops have the upgraded iPhones and will it have MMS?

And could someone actually link me to the new upgrades the european iPhone will have.

    Thanks a million!

No, a UK one will be locked to O2 and a US one will be locked to AT&T.
    R_H_C_P wrote: »

Yes if possible. Currently only easily done on version 1.1.1 or older.

Dunno 1.1.2 is still the latest available on iTunes but soon I'd say.

European iPhone ? I guess you just mean the latest software version 1.1.3 .. nothing to get excited about.

    ..we really need a sticky.
If you read back 3-4 pages you'd have the answer to all of this.

    1. Yes, it will, Yes, you have to unlock the phone.
    2. The upgraded iphone firmware (1.1.3) will probably be in shops in the US within about 2 weeks, but the actual NEW iPhone hasn't even been announced yet - it won't be in shops for another loooong time.
MMS will be available quite soon through a third party software app.
    3. The "european iPhone" that we'll be getting here probably in september is no different to the US version. There is no "new iPhone" - I'm sure there will be, but it hasn't been announced yet.

did you install the latest java version???

I had the same problem until i realised my java was not up to scratch.

    Heres the link

you only need to run the windows.bat file ignore the rest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 513 ✭✭✭davkav

Okay here it is plain and simple (windows method)

    Step 1: Restoring firmware 1.1.1

    1. Download the 1.1.1 ipsw firmware file from here
and the 1.1.2 firmware file from

    2. Reboot your iPhone, with cable connected to PC, holding the top (power) and home buttons BUT release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen shows the apple logo) and continue to hold the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode.

    3. Restore your iPhone by pressing and holding the ‘Shift’ key on windows then click ‘restore’ to select the 1.1.1 firmware file you downloaded earlier. The restore should complete with the error at the end with error 1015. The phone will then hang in connect to itunes mode.

    4. In order to kick the phone out of that mode I just had to launch
    ibrickr from this zip file.

Step 2: Jailbreaking Iphone with version 1.1.1 firmware

    1. enter *#307# press call, now use the back button on the top of your screen to remove *#307# , now enter 0 , press call, press answer, press hold, press decline. And you get to the contact list.

    2. you should now be able to acces your contacts list and add a contact.

    3. Now edit a new contact and type in "prefs://" as web-address and "http://jailbreakme.com" as an additional URL.

    4. When you tap "prefs://" you can now select your favorite WiFi gateway.
Whilst in preferences its a good idea to set auto lock to never.

    5. Now press the home button and move the slider to the dial-pad.

    6. Now you can go back to the contact list by Dialing 0, push call, then answer, then contacts, then hit the "http://jailbreakme.com" web address you typed in.

    7. Scroll down to the bottom, click "Install AppSnapp". Safari will exit and you'll return to the activate screen. Wait for the phone to reboot (about 30secs). You are now jailbroken. and are able to use Installer.app.

If the phone doesnt reboot, restart the phone yourself and repeat step 2

Step 3: Prepare your 1.1.1 device for the Update

    1. Launch Installer.app

    2. Scroll down to Tweaks (1.1.1)

    3. Select OktoPrep

    4. Click Install

    Step 4: Update to 1.1.2

    1. Connect your device to your computer

    2. Launch iTunes

    3. Choose your device

    4. Click shift-Update and update using the 1.1.2 firmware file downloaded earlier.

    - DO NOT CLICK OR SHIFT-CLICK RESTORE: That will wipe the changes OktoPrep made.

    5. Wait forever for your device to update

Step 5: Jailbreak your iPhone with 1.1.2 firmware

    1. Close iTunes

    2. Connect your device to your computer

    3. double click on windows.bat from this zip file

    4. Follow the on screen instructions. also make sure you have the latest java installed else the windows.bat file wont work.

Obviously I didnt write all this, I aint taking credit I just added a few links and tidied it up a wee bit.
    Hope this helps!!!

I revised this with cdebru's corrections!!

Nope don't reckon it does. There is a post somewhere about changing or creating some 'proxy.pac' file but it could be dodgy mucking about with the innards of your phone!

isp.vodafone etc works but will cost you €20 per MB!!

And don't even think about phoning Vodafone, cos the conversation goes something like -

'iPhone..... what's an iPhone?.... no we don't support them'
and you feel like you're to blame for Vodafone not doing the deal with Apple that they should have done.

Hm I'm gonna keep an eye on that guys feedback page and see if anybody leaves positive feedback for one of those saying it worked.

At long last somebody charging a reasonable price for these things - 80 and 90 quid for a piece of circuitry that must cost a euro to make is ridiculous!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

I completely agree they cost no more than a dollar to make, Even us as wholesalers are paying alot for them alot.We even looked in to trying to get in contact with the factory that makes them instead of going to a 3rd party but we couldnt get the details.
