I have to say I am very impressed with the surround sound quality from this player

Well I am not... Just installed it, no sound whatsoever when connected with the 5.1 speaker system of my previous DVD player. And the sound delivered to the TV is very, very low. Only if the TV volume is turned up to the max ( and the volume on the DVD as well) you can hear it. Went into setup and correctly setup the surround sound speakers.

I am sure I am doing something wrong, or ? Thanks for any help or tips

How exactly are you connecting the new Lidl DVD player to your 5.1 speaker system? I dont understand why you need to turn up the tv sound in order to hear the speakers?

1.) I plugged the speaker cables in the 6 sockets, I am now beginning to wonder if the player actually has/needs a 5.1 amplifier. If it needs one, well I feel really stupid having bought it.
2.) If I unplug the 6 speakers and try to get sound through the TV speakers, that is when I have to turn up the volume really loud on both TV and DVD to get any sound.

I reckon you will need the amplifier!! Am sure someone else will confirm!

If your based in Dublin & want to sell it I will give what you paid as my Dad is looking for one!

I downloaded a few 720p resolution DivX files from Stage6 and burned them onto a CD but when I try to play it on the Silvercrest player I get - HD Not Supported. That's despite the fact that I can play other standard def. divx files no problem through the HDMI cable. What gives?

Has anyone had any problems with no sound when playing back xvid/divx files even though they have worked previously?

I watched a DVD then put in an xvid dvd and I cant get the sound to work!

I checked the manual but cant find a solution!

    It's not a HD player I presume?

Well I know it doesn't play HD DVDs Padraig but I would have thought it would support HD DivX files? Considering it has HDMI and supports upscaling etc. Can anyone shed light on this? I don't really know anything about the DivX format.

I dont think its too frowned upon but another option is to use www.adverts.ie

If you were ever in Dublin I would take it off you myself for my dad!

Pretty pleased with this baby so far - going to try to stick some speakers on it - anyone got it working with a set of speakers (nothing too pricey mind!)

read from post 41 on this thread

Has anyone else experienced that when you play a video file from an SD card source it comes up small in a window, but the exact same file played from DVDR is fine. have yet to test this with files from an external disk.

Just wondering is there any little connection I can get so I can use my external hd with my computer and have it connected to the dvd player at the same time. DVD player will be in another room so dont want to have to keep unplugging it and moving it as the person on the computer may need the hd too. Theres only one usb out on the HD. Just wondering can you get something like a double adapter for it??

it says it can read first partition from hard drive. I have WD500gig HD. I am planning to make partitions and format first one as FAT32. If any body has tried this trick.

I got this baby about 6 months ago - crackin machine for the money and plays pretty much anything. I have it hooked up to a cheapy surround sound system I got a while back and it works great. There is a definite improvement in picture quality on my LCD TV from my old DVD player with the HDMI connection once you set it up properly. Just mind the remote - a lot of functions you need it for such as changing from DVD to USB! Not sure if a universal remote would give you the same functions. Also noticed for the first time last week the remote glows in the dark!

Just wondering whats the sound like on it through a normal tv ?
i.e. do you have to have the volume on the tv up to the last?

Also is the dvd player responsive to the remote i.e. do you have to be pointing the remote at the dvd player at a foot away for the dvd player to respond?

Do they come with HDMI cable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,764 ✭✭✭DeadParrot

    No they dont

I'm actually in the market for one of these
but can someone tell if why not get something
    here: http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/r/divx/0_0_0?t=3_1 instead?

I doubt it - surely the HD can only be a slave of either the PC or the DVD player at any one time?

    I dunno, is it fat32?

this is what we know so far(correct me if I am wrong)

    1)
"Kristok" Its doesn’t play high definition discs just upscales your regular dvd's for your high definition tv. If you have a good quality dvd it should make things clearer but not much.
"zAbbo" It uses progressive scan to upscale the source, that and a HDMI will give you a better Picture Quality over scart.
    2)it can play MPEG4 & DIVX and mp3's on a DVD disc

3)An amplifier is needed to use 5.1 Analogue Audio Out - eg home cinema speakers

    3)For region free...
    open tray
    press 9 9 9 9
then 9 for region free ,or 1-8 for your desired region
    close tray

4)it does not come with a HDMI cable

5)it has a USB2 port but only accepts drives with Format as FAT32 not NTFS (not sure on the max size of the drive 360 as of yet) a 360GB drive takes about 5mins to load up. Also the drive has to have an external power supply.

    5) it only cost 60euro so be gentle with it.
"vengeance52" i was opening the cover for the USB/Memory stick inputs, and the cover just popped off in my hand, now it wont stay on when i open it.

    6)20btls of Carlsberg cost 19euro

what is the remote like? does it feel cheap whats the range like?

Ive been using an external 80gb laptop hard drive formatted as fat32 with no external power supply and its working great.
Can anyone confirm these will be the ones with the usb2.0 port, it doesnt mention it on the lidl site.

You made my day. I have a spare 80gig laptop drive just lying in dust. Mine should also work. Its worth trying.
