My iPhone has been sitting there since the 8th with no movement.

Also if they decide to charge me VAT how long will it be before i get the phone? Don't mind payin just don't fancy waitin another week or two!

Also, bluetooth is useless it seems! All it can be used for is the headset? Any plans to make it work for sending files, etc?

Im having the same problem with bluetooth. Has anyone encountered this before. I can't see other bluetooth devices in the area, The computer seems to pick up the iphone however but not the other way around.

You're not having problems, I'm afraid bluetooth just sucks. All it can do is pair with a BT headset - there is no file push or any features to interface with a PC.
There are some cool 3rd party apps for syncing over wifi though.

    Hi All,

Firstly, great thread, has gotten me through most of my working day (almost forgot to go for lunch).

I'm off to the states next month for a little break for myself and am thinking of picking up an iphone, few questions.

Once it's 1.1.12 i shouldn't have much trouble once I get 1 of the slimsim solutions is that right?
It'll work with the o2 network here?
How much should I expect to pay for it?
Is it worth it? (I already have an iTouch that I have jailbreaked)

yeah the only problem might be getting a 1.1.2 phone if 1.1.3 is released then

you will pay $399 plus local taxes

if you like the touch then yeah its a touch with a phone and camera

thanks cdebru, I havn't actually used the iPhone yet, the touch would seem a bit big for a phone to me, I'll have a play with it in 1 of the shops I think when I'm over there and I'll be sure to ask what the firmware version on the phone is

Have a look around here before you go it is quite possible that 1.1.3 will be jailbroken and working with some sim solution by next month.

On the size of the iphone yeah its bigger than some phones but you get the benefit of the big screen and it is thin so its not like carry a brick.

If you compare it to Smartphones then it is not that big and you are getting usable screen rather than half the space taken up with a mini keyboard.

They are selling turbosims for 60 euro

    any opinions

I don't think they are turbosims

They are calling them turbosims but the description is for a nextsim.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,761 ✭✭✭cdebru

Just to let ye know that the "anysims" that were discussed here a few pages back do actually work and can be got from ebay for €59 inc postage. Please note I have no affiliation with the seller on ebay you can check his feedback and you'll see my comment if you wish. All I'm tryin to do is help a few others who have the 1.1.2 otb Iphone and save them the €150 or so that they'd spend on the turbo sim. If anyone wants details I can post the username of the seller from ebay.

    Hi

Do they work with UK and US phones

    cdebru:
Im ordering a new sim from 02 this week, in your opinion should i go down the route of hardware fix instead of sofware solution.
And if so what is the best hardware solution to go for?

If it is a US iphone then iphonesimfreer works perfectly well If it is a UK iphone then stealthsim or perhaps ask the poster who posted about anysims from ebay

Its hard to say really the dev team are currently working on the unlock for 1.1.2 and have had a copy of the as yet unreleased 1.1.3 for over a week so
the unlock could be tomorrow or it could be next month or maybe a software unlock that is viable for most users may never happen.

The prices are dropping on the hardware solutions so it depends how badly you want to use the phone.

Again if the phone is a US one then iphonesimfreer is a good solution should work out at about 60euro I have tested it and had no problems on any of the networks.

If it is a UK phone then I would steer clear of iphonesimfreer at least until they get a new version for UK phones

you can buy a turbo sim from gsm solutions in town at a price of 130 euro if you are prepared to spend that much to get it going...i ordered mine last week so should hopefully be getting it any day now...

Ordered one of those iphonesimfreers over a week ago. Never came so I proceeded to get in touch with them yesterday. After attempted skyping, landlineing emails etc I managed to kind of get a response on their live chat support. Anyhow I don't know what the situation is there but they have sent me a refund quite promptly. Weird though like, if they didn't send the item over a week ago, how do they know it's not going to arrive Monday morning?

Anyhow, I said to meself where am I going to get one of these from now, and like, I want it now! So headed into town (Dublin) and got one from one of those phone unlock places in Parnell St for €60 and all is working good on Vodafone!
Jeez I could have done that 2 weeks ago!

PS - what is not suggested anywhere else really, is that the guy in the shop said to scrape away at the back my own sim card to reduce the thickness. It seems like a good idea cos some of the videos show people struggling a bit to get the tray down when both sims are in there.

Edit for cdebru - yeah 1.1.2 OTB USA phone

Was kinda thinking more along the lines of this!

There are guides on hackthatphone.com and iclarified and hackintosh.org

I presume it is on 1.1.2

Download 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 firmware versions and Ibrickr and jailbreak for 1.1.2 links on hackthatphone.com

put if into restore mode by holding the home and the power button till screen goes black then let go of the power button keeping holding the home button connect the phone to itunes

Press shift and restore direct it to where you have 1.1.1 downloaded to

when it is finished you get error 1015

Turn off itunes start ibrickr reboot phone using ibrickr screen goes red all is good

then jailbreak using the wifi method

Then run OKTOPREP from the installer

Then UPDATE to 1.1.2 then jailbreak using the PC then install and run iworld

Phone is then activated and jailbroken then all you have to do is program the turbosim

yeah that is probably all it is i normally put in Dublin and the postcode never had a problem

yeah to JAMM222 and others - after the thing with my iphonesimfreer non delivery I was scouring ebay and buy and sell etc - i sent a couple of messages to ebayers who seemed to be in Ireland to see if they would be in Dublin or somewhere that I could meet. But then I started to think of all those phone unlocking places around Moore St and Parnell St thinking that someone might have a contact. I also phoned Simi Sam (I think that's the shop name) in Aungier St. He said he had Turbosims and his prices where €80 - €100 for one of them. (I'm not sure if that included taking the phone in and jailbreaking etc) In the end I got it from a little phone unlocking shop and internet cafe next to Fibbers. The chinese guy who was busy surrounded by phone cables and phone in bits and pieces, said that it was the last one he had at the moment and couldn't give me a receipt or a refund if it didn't work. All it had on it was a sticker which had 'jdtx.cn' on it - some Chinese electronics crowd. Was a bit anxious after I bought it cos I thought it might have been for a UK iphone but all was good after I put it in.
All I can suggest is to go down to them shops and have a look around, but probably good if you had your own sim semi prepared and give one a try before you hand over the dosh!
