    Hi,

I want to buy an Iphone, I've seen unlocked ones on Ebay with good feedback. They are version 1.1, what else will I have to do if I was to buy one online or should I buy a iphone next week when I'm in the States? Thanks & happy xmas
if it is 1.1.1 then it just has to be jailbreaked and then run anysim and you are done
if it 1.1.2 then you have to wait for the software unlock or buy a sim solution like turbo or stealth

sing my iPhone now, jailbreak was long winded used apptappinstaller after the 1015 error and that ran on the iPhone too looking forward to the stealthsim but even without it thephone is phenominal!! My only issue would be the fact that the downgrade has put me in a position where i've to wait for some one to figure out a safe way of upgrading the firmeire before 1.1.3 is released

guys i have a question about the iphone.

my brother is coming home from the states in the new year and i'd like to get an iphone brought back with him.

i want to use it with vodafone here as that's my carrier at the moment, will there be any problems with vodafone, what features work and don't work, i'm assuming the visual voicemail won't work?

what's the cheapest or easiest way to unlock the phone so that i can use it on vodafone? i've looked a bit back on this thread (don't have time to read 50 pages of it :p) and it seems like turbosim and stealthsim. which is the easier of the two methods?

by unlocking using the one of the two methods above do i have to jailbreak the iphone first? is this a simple task, is there a program out there that automates this process because as far as i was aware this had to be done using a fairly detailed list of instructions.

i also would like to use the iphone on my macbook as i use the calender etc on that and would like to be able to sync that, will i run into problems?

right after having a bit more time to read this thread i've seen that i was asking questions that have been asked before in some shape or form.

so basically if i get a 1.1.2 OTB (what's the OTB mean btw?) from america all i need to do is this.

    1. jailbreak the iphone (is there software to do this or will i have to follow a guide)?

    2. cut my sim up to work with stealthsim, thinking of buying it from unlockthatiphone, anyone know how quick is delivery?

    3. stick the stealthsim and my sim into the iphone and that's it yeh?

Yup, that's about the size of it.

    1. Jailbreaking is easy, need a mac or PC and a wireless internet connection that the Iphone can connect to. There's a guide on unlockthatiphone's site.

    2. Don't know how quick delivery is, but according to their site, unlockthatiphone are a Cork based company and will be shipping from within Ireland, so should be fairly quick.

    3. Yup, that's about it.

    :)

PS: 1.1.2 OTB is 1.1.2 Out The Box. (As opposed an Iphone with a previous firmware version which has been upgrade to 1.1.2).

hehe i gave specific instructions on how to get to the apple store, using the retail store locator on their site http://www.apple.com/retail/

luckily my brother loves abercrombie clothes and the apple store in boston is in the same shopping mall

It's me again - the computer idiot.

Took a computer from the office to my house to hook up to my wireless broadband so as to activate my iPhone (wifi in the office was too weak). I'm getting nowhere. The airport icon at the top right of the screen is telling me I am connected to my wireless but no pages are loading.

    Am I missing something?

I was managing to get through the jailbreak etc but got stumpted at the wifi bit. My own laptop is only 10.3.9 - so therefore cannot use that.

    Anyone got any suggestions??????

As in walk in and purchase, walk out - no contract to sign there and then or anything?

Bugger, I've told him only the Apple store. If he can walk in and walk out in an AT&T store great, he could easily find one of those...

    Or debit card

If you plead your case you might get to use cash but it depends on who serves you

The computer will not connect to your wifi or the phone won't ???

how did you jailbreak with no wifi

Perhaps you could detail exactly what you have done and where you are stuck

    OK - here goes!!

Managed to get to the wifi stage of the whole activation process - only problem was wifi in my office was too weak so I could not get to the jailbreakme.com stage. So I decided to bring a small apple computer (with Tiger) back to my house where I have eircom wireless broadband. Plugged in the computer but it doesn't appear to pick up my wireless signal. The new computer has Airport and there is a signal and it seems to ID my wireless but I cannot connect to the internet!!! Doh!!

I have the technology but no wireless in the office and I have the wireless but no technology in my own house. Am starting to tear my hair out at this stage. Am slightly thrilled I managed to get this far (as I am hopeless with things like this) but I seem to have hit a major stumbling block.

Any help would be mucho appreciated!!

    A quickly balding cathyhal!!!

just got a call there to say the phone has been got :D, now to order that stealthsim thingy.

*EDIT* use paypal on unlockthatiphone as you save 4 euros on a stealthsim due to the US dollar exchange rate and you don't have to enter in your card details :p

Ok, before you do anything, the first step is to determine your wireless security settings for your Eircom wireless broadband.

I'm assuming you have a wireless modem router from Eircom. You need to ensure that a wireless network is correctly set up and you have made a note of the security settings of your network. Specifically, you need to know the name you have given to your wireless network, and the network key (WEP key).

With this information, both the new computer with built in Airport card, and later the Iphone, will be able to connect to your wireless network and therefore the internet. Both of which is a must.

If you need help setting up a secured wireless network on an Eircom supplied wireless modem router, give Eircom technical support a ring, I'm sure they will help you with that over the phone, most ISPs do.

With a secured wireless network set up and your new computer connected to it, it will have internet access. That's the first step done.

Since you have a 1.1.2 OTB from Belfast, you need to follow this guide: http://www.unlockthatiphone.com/downgrade112.php?firmware=112&modem=112&unlocked=notunlocked&version=new

The above will jailbreak and bypass activation. The final step to a fully unlocked and working Iphone, is unlocking it so that you can use your Irish SIM card. At the present time, that means you need to purchase a Stealth SIM (or similar), which does not "unlock" the Iphone, rather it fools the Iphone into thinking that your Irish SIM card is an O2 UK SIM card (still, it does the job).

Finally, once you've done all that, remember not to update the Iphone's firmware / software if you are ever prompted to do so, in Itunes. Doing so may lock the phone back up, at least.

Sorry if this has been discussed but I've read the last 10 pages or so and didnt spot an answer.

When is the iphone set to be available on the Irish market through Irish shops? A friend of mine told me the contracts are all but signed for o2 and many o2 staff techies already have theirs.

I'm waiting out for them to arrive in Ireland but can anyone tell me when this might be?

Don't get you? unlockthatiphone is an Irish company selling in Euros. Did you click on the "Stealth SIMS" link and buy from another firm? AFAICS unlockthatiphone are not selling them yet.

when you go to pay they give you multiple payment options, one of them is paypal, when you pay with paypal they said that you'll be charged in dollars. the other options were credit card (charge in euros) and some other form of payment that i can't remember.

yeh they are getting a shipment in on the 3rd of jan, and they said orders will ship the same day, considering i won't be getting the iphone until the 5th of jan everything should be okay, *fingers crossed*

Thanks a mill for your help. Have correct settings, WEP password etc but still the new computer will not load any internet pages.

Is there anyone in the Dublin area who could do this for me - for a fee of course? I really am afraid that I will bunch the phone and it will be nothing more than an expensive paperweight!

Right, got you. I still can't see that unlockthatiphone are selling them / taking payment at the moment. Saying that, I've heard also that unlockthatiphone indeed are, and you say you've even paid through PayPal, so I think I must be going mad. Mad or blind, one of the two. Could you provide a link for "pay now" or whatever you click on to buy?

Can the computer "see" your wireless network? If so, can it connect to it? Does it say connected, but still you're not getting any web pages? If so, since you mentioned this computer came from work, does it have static IP address settings set-up? I don't want to go in detail here, 'cos it's way off-topic, but you need to get that mac online before anything else. Perhaps you could ask for help with that in the Apple Mac section of Boards.

Aha!! You could have a point there. But I'm not going to mess with it - it is a work computer that I must bring back in the morning and knowing my luck, it will disintegrate once I try to change anything. I will have to bribe the techie guys in the office tomorrow!!!!

    Again, thanks for your time.

My iPhone was originally 1.0.2, then I updated to 1.1.1 and then updated to 1.1.2

This is possible, currently unlocking out of the box 1.1.2's is not due to new bootloader

    heya
what tutorial did you use to get it working with 1.1.2, my phone is originally a 1.0.2 phone, I'm on 1.1.1 I thought there was no anysim for 1.1.2?
    thanks
