the point made about people wearing orange uniforms has no bearing on this

thread. the people that wear the orange uniform had atrocities committed

against them by the IRA, and republicans had atrocities committed aginst

them by the British. what we are talking about here is a group that

systematically murdered 6 million innocent men, women and children.

if i saw someone wearing an Orangemans uniform i would not be offended

because any atrocities they committed were in the pursuit of a cause- to

keep ireland part of Britain and vice versa with the IRA.

but the SS is a different story they had no cause to wipe out men, women

and children who had done nothing against them. they just decided they

didnt like them. what would have been achieved if they had killed all the

Jews? nothing. it was just a personal whim of Hitlers, there was no tactical

    reason for it at all

mordie is an odd one. I'm guessing his date of birth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

Well 88 is a particularly stupid and crude neo-fascist reference.

23 3 ... its not Hitlers birthday thats for sure (20/04/1898)

    Mordy, you stumped me.

i dont think that any good could come from wearing ss uniforms,in germany the swastiga symbol is banned totally, because the holocoust and the atrocites that are still fresh in peoples minds.il put it this way, would you enjoy playing with/against someone wearing uvf/uda/orange man attire??well multiply that displeasement about a million times if you are jewish or polish playing airsoft with someone who enjoys as a hobby dressing up as the organisation who commited mass genocide on your race/possibly family

as others have said, that is a good point, but it can be viewed 2 ways, first, we wouldnt like having the orange uniforms over here because its offencive and the nazi one is the same as you have said,.
and second, why should we still be bothered if someone wants to dress up in "pro british" stuff?.,
im not bothered, as ive said in earlier posts in this thread, in theory, the britich stuff "should" be far more offencive to us as irish people,. ,yet we dont moan about it becasue its history., WW2 is a lot older and i have no objection to any type of german uniforms., I hate to think airsoft would become that political.,

The sad thing is the majority of people who want to wear these uniforms and/or permit their usage don't know much about the SS at all, judging from the posts made.
the point made on another page was a good one, is it only ok to wear the uniform if that military group won?

No one said you can't wear Wehrmacht uniforms, and most people have no problem with that very notion at all. We're talking about the SS here.
why should we still be bothered if someone wants to dress up in "pro british" stuff?

'Pro-British' is a bit of a far cry from 'Pro-Ethnic Cleansing'.

Maybe you'd also be interested in forming a KKK skirmish team, sure it's only a uniform, isn't that your argument?

I've said already that people might like the idea of battling the forces of evil (Nazis). The Nazis are the bad guys we all know about, if people didn't like shooting them we wouldn't have had so many WW2 games over the last few years.

and i understand that we are not talking about american uniforms, but what we are talking about is the banning of something that SOME people are offended by while not banning other things that people are offended by. the point made on another page was a good one, is it only ok to wear the uniform if that military group won?

I would like to think that EVERYONE is offended by the mass genocide that the SS were largely responsible for during WW2, rather than just SOME people, as you put it.

Regular german soldiers fine, but the SS is a whole different kettle of fish.

thats stretching it a little wouldnt ya say? the KKK are not and never were an army weather they styled themselves on one or not., there just racists, nothing else, nobody is saying that germany was right in what it done, i think we all agree on that, but this is about weather we should be allowed to "discuss" topics related to the SS and nazi's ect, and not about setting up a team of SS or of KKK.,

Wow seriously disapointed with the poll results thus far....Well.. each to their own lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,388 ✭✭✭kdouglas

well the poll is finished now and we've had enough discussion on this topic I think, will discuss the matter again with o1s1n and one of us will post our decision on it later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,388 ✭✭✭kdouglas

ok, having discussed this with o1s1n this evening, here are the new rules pertaining to SS and other similar threads which have been added to the charter:

    * Discussion of the Waffen SS and other such nazi-era groups is a sensitive subject, discussion regarding this topic is allowed only if it is a relevant topic and a proper discussion.
    - If someone posts a thread on this topic which you find offensive, do not reply to it or start a debate on the matter, if it does not suit your personal taste then ignore it, if it is in breach of the charter, then please use the report post button so that a mod can respond to it.
    - There is to be no further debate on the matter of whether or not SS discussion is allowed, the debate took place in this thread and the decision has been made by the moderators.
    - With regard to SS and similar uniforms, there is to be no discussion of insignia or where to buy insignia, in particular the SS lightning bolts, swastika's or any other nazi insignia

Now let's stop all this politics and everyone just get along :)
