Ok story is, I sold tickets for a concert on ebay 3 weeks ago. Got €240 for them, they were bought for €99.

    The said concert was cancelled.

I have gotten an email to say that the ticket money is to be refunded on my credit card.

So should I give that money to the person who bought the tickets off me or should I keep it all to myself.....

    Please help me decide...

Should I give the refund away 41 votes

You should give them back their €240.

I'd give them back the 99, you're not responsible for the thing being cancelled so just give them back what the organisers gave you because of the change.

    indeed.

There's no such thing as karma, you probably won't suffer as a result of keeping the money.. but it'd still be wrong.

You have no choice. It's being refunded automatically.

I voted yes because its the nice thing to do but it doesn't mean I would do it. They knew the risks involved in purchasing the tickets from E-Bay.

What would you want if you forked out 240 for tickets to a gig you wanted to see and it got cancelled?
Your 240 back or 99 back?

The original 99 is being refunded by the promoters to the original buyers.

OP is asking about the 240.

You should give the 240 back. Oh and you shouldn't be touting tickets either.

You sold an Ticket for €240 for an event that has now been cancelled, you should give the €240 back to your ebay customer. You won't be out of pocket.

I wasnt touting, I had bought tickets and then my work do was confirmed.

I put them on ebay at cost price.... I didnt make anyone bid on them...

The person at the time was very happy to have gotten them,

Like I have been happy to pay over the odds for tickets in the past to gigs I have wanted to go too!!

In that case I wouldn't give them the money back It's their own fault really.

I thought it would make for an interesting poll/argument?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,073 ✭✭✭✭Terry

    Do not name the concert.
Do not speculate on which concert it is/ was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,787 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I'd give it all back, bar fee's and I'm scum.

Give the 240 back or nothing at all. They were never dealing with the 99. It's your conscience that you have to live with.

Your poll doesn't really help with that distinction.

Give them back their money...... you keep the refund, no-one loses out and your e-bay rep stays intact.

There is only one possible answer to this and you have to do the right thing - "do unto others" - if you do otherwise, you really are a bad girl.

Obviously. If she sold on ebay, then ebay has her details. She can refund the money or ebay can do it, with a stiff penalty.
