    Does it do divx?

it does , it also says it supports xvid on the box with a little badge "xvid home"

I'd never bothered with DivX before but now that this player supports it I've been exploring. Can anyone tell me if there are actually partner sites with movies / documentaries to rent / buy or is it all vapourware? Are there any DivX sites besides Stage6 ??

i got the last one in monaghan at 2pm and im very happy with it.

Ditto, very happy with my one. There was about a dozen left in the Lidl off the long mile road yesterday evening.

    Ps: There's also a Carlsberg promo which caught my eye :D 20btls @ 17.99

Very impressed myself, is it region free by default or do you have to apply a hack?

I hooked an external 360gb harddrive and it took 4 mins or so to read it but it played nicely from it!

My only small complaint is the stuttering movement on fast moving scenes, but for €60 I wont complain too much!

    as previous post

    "open tray
    press 9 9 9 9
then 9 for region free ,or 1-8 for your desired region
    close tray
    done."

This works. i just done it on my player. plus i have a Hard Drive constantly hook to it now. :D

Just to let those who bought one of these know, i was opening the cover for the USB/Memory stick inputs, and the cover just popped off in my hand, now it wont stay on when i open it, seems to be held in place with some sort of glue. well for €60 im not shocked, but just be warned, be gentle with it.

Hi, quick question re the DP-5400X DVD player.

When I connect a non powered notebook usb hd to it .. it just said DELL but didn't display any movies?

What type of usb hard drive do you attach to it? Is it a powered one ?

Also is it formatted as NTFS or FAT ?

Is there any secrets to getting this working .. would this one work http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=324975

host powered devices are unlikely to work.

    Format as FAT32

I have a 250gb harddrive in this, its a powered media enclosure but it bombed and wouldnt load as a media player which is why I bought the 5400 as it still worked as an external harddrive.

It took 2 mins to load up and I could play films and tv programmes no problem, its Fat32 but I thought I read in the 5400 manual that it can handle NTFS aswell?

I also have one of these but I havent tried it yet!

I will try it later on and post back!

Best not try it now whilst that dancing programme is on or I'll be buried with the Lidl dvd!

Just tried the 500gb WD there and it didnt work!

You could try the Aldi one and if doesnt work bring it back to them as they have a great returns policy.

Bad new, has to be FAT32 and under 128GB

Strange how my other external harddrive works fine and its 279gb?

id imagine if you split the disk into 2 partitions and formatted the first as primary, fat32 and 128GB it would work, the second as whatever .. then use ur PC to move between them.

Has anyone else hooked this up using HDMI and are you having problems?

I have mine connected to my av receiver via HDMI but when I turn it on the next day it doesnt connect via the HDMI and I need to reconnect it using component just to tell the dvd player to connect using the HDMI again!

connect it via HDMI only, then cycle through the HD/Res button.

In fairness, it's covered pretty well in the manual.

I have it connected via the HDMI as per the manual, but after powering it down and then back up it seems to forget that I want to use the HDMI connection!!! Thats why I asked is anyone else connecting it using the HDMI connection.

Pressing the HD/Res does jack because the dvd player actually isnt sending out the signal via HDMI, thats my problem which isnt covered in the manual!

does the problem happen when you connect directly o the TV, and not through the av receiver ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭branners69

I didnt try it through the TV as I would only want it going through the av receiver. I managed to get it working by pressing the V-MODE button (on the 2nd last row) of the remote.

I have to say I am very impressed with the surround sound quality from this player when watching avi's!

i have had to press the v mode button on the bottom of the remote ever time I switched on the player, so far it was really annoying, than after i switched the video output to HD in the setup menu it was happy days, it comes up all the time no need to press v mode any more, the only thing i have found about it is that it takes a while to load a film off the USB key, not sure if this is down to key size (4GB) or manufacturer (PNY), but it was faster on my old sigmatek machine.

I am a little puzzled why there is a white and red , audio out jack beside the HDMI which the manual describes as optional as I thought HDMI was audio and video ?

So far very happy with my purchase.

Anyone know if this player will play mp3's on a DVD disc ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭branners69

I dont know why they have the red and white connections because as you say HDMI is audio and video! Unless it would be for a projector for you to connect it it via HDMI a distance away and then you connect to a receiver which is closer with the red and white connections, even though there is an optical out for that!

Yes I am pretty sure it plays MP3s from a dvd because it has the MP3 symbol on the top of it. According to the manual you can rip music off cds directly onto a memory card or usb key/ harddrive.

If you want me to check let me know!

Anyone get this player to work with nero digital mp4 files - per the manual it should play them but I can't get it to work off USB key or hard drive via USB - works for pictures, so is working, but I'm trying to play vob files, so I translated them via nero to nero digital mp4 files - but can't get it to see the files - anyone try this ?
