Just this post in response to all the After Hours postings recently about, Polish people stealing your woman, jobs, eating the swans, taking your bus seat! Also this post in answer to all your bitching about the Germans, Brits, Romanians, French, Americans..etc etc etc...

Isn't this more a case of Polish sub-contractors not paying Polish workers?

The Polish workers claim they have not received payments for six weeks from the Polish company, ZRE, which is one of the subcontractors involved in a €384m contract to reduce CO2 emissions at the plant.

ZRE was contracted by the German engineering firm, Lentjes, which is the main contractor employed on the contract.

so technically, its not irish that arent paying them, but polish.

but hey, why let details get in the way of a good post, eh?

sorry my post might have been unclear, was merely trying and failed to point out that the last postings on After Hours are being aimed at Non Irish a lot and there was a massive amount of complaining about them, justified or not i leave that to the original topics.

to perhaps make it more clear, 'can't we all just get along' ?

Because of the wanker ITGU or whatever union is out there. It's the cotractors that haven't paying the staff but the unions yet again want to flex their ever weakening muscles to try say that they're still a force to be reckoned with, flush them down the jacks.

FYI ESB has fully paid the main contractor, who has paid the Polish sub-contractor, who HAS NOT paid their Polish workers.

I dont support unions in anyway.

But I cant figure out why which ever union it is is going on strike. Their me members aren't affected (are they?), the ESB is directly involved (is it?) so what's the point?

but srsly - its the ZRE: pols havent been payed in 6 weeks; German Contractor only cut them out on Friday... I wonder why.

Unions will strike for any reason. The clock-watchers love nothing more than being able to sit at home with their feet up and drink tea. That's all they do in work anyway.

The union is claiming that the ESB can't wash its hands because it was a sub-contracting company, but I say it can. The ESB did its part, it paid its bills. It should refuse to hire that company again and end any current contracts with it, but apart from that there's nothing the ESB can do.

It is typical of the ESB Unions. I hear the strike will begin Thursday. I would hate to think of the financial loss to the economy in this computer age of a power blackout. I long for the day of full deregulation where if the ESB strike, you can just buy the power from somebody else.

My area has one of the largest E European populations in Ireland, and in the 3 years they have been here en masse Im not sure ive ever seen, let alone heard of, an Irish woman with a Polish dude.

Anyway, these foreign contract companies often divert funds. Say the ESB gave them enough (random figure: 3 million) to pay imported temporary staff from back home 10 euro per hour. The firm will often steal part of the payments, telling the staff they have been contracted for 6 euro an hour. Its only when someone tells the workers this is illegal is a rat ever sniffed.

Having said that iirc Irish Ferries get away with paying below minimum wage somehow.

Not being racist, but does anybody think this whole Polish immigration is getting way out of hand?? I read in one of the papers yesterday that a Polish newspaper published an article saying that Polish should be recognised as one of the official languages of Ireland. They deem this to be justified as there is 63,000 of them over here. I wonder if 63000 Irish packed up tomorrow and moved to Poland would they have Irish recognised over there?? No they wouldn't because its sheer ****in cheek to think a country you weren't even born in should change its ways for you.
