Does anyone know is it possible to send a txt to multiple recepients? I've often had to send the same txt to a few ppl, but ended up having to type the txt out several times!!

No. Iphone uses google maps & theres no way of integrating as of yet a gps device.

its not possible. As mentioned before on this thread, if youre a txter this device may not be for you as its seriously limited in that department!

I'm confused by all the new unlocking/jailbreaking news for firmware 1.1.1
What do people who buy the iphone preinstalled with 1.1.1 do to unlock it? Do the old activation-bypass methods work?

Just load an App called summerboard, and you can just scroll down to access them. Or alternatively you can install launcher and this opens up all your Apps.

If you can install your own apps.....

There is an App which does it... but it looks overly complicated:

Sets up a webserver on the phone, can read from address book etc.

There is weSMS and ChinSMS aswell but both these could be Chinese only?

I wouldn't say it will be long before someone develops a decent SMS app.

is there any programmes to use push mail on the iphone, similar to that of PPC phones.

I know it does pull but push if far better.

I know there has been talk of introducing it in newer firmwares when an agreement is got with Microsoft.

Ok, i've found this method that will apparently activate a 1.1.1 iphone fresh out of the box (ie never hacked before). It seems pretty complicated- i have an opportunity to get an iphone from NY in about 1 or 2 weeks, do you think there will be easier methods by then and will i be able to unlock it? Here is the link;

Where has everyone gone, why is there so little info and so much confusion on the net? I've found another solution that is new today, it downgrades a 1.1.1 to the old firmware and then you can unlock and use it as a phone again (by downgrading the baseband too) but i'm confused- does this whole method include bypassing the at&t activation? I've come across plenty of people on other forums who say they had a 1.1.1 iphone fresh out of the box and they used this method successfully but they never clarify if they had to activate with at&t first, activation is the stumbling block but no one ever seems to mention it anymore. can someone please help me out by reading the following;

rc28, I agree with you, I've been watching this with great interest, as I am off to Florida in a week and was pondering the purchase of an iPhone.

All the sites seem to refer to a requirement a downgrade to 1.0.2 of the firmware. Iphone Sim Free seems to require an AT&T account, and the downgrade to 1.0.2, and it offers no solution to get around the activation issue.

I'd imagine that it's only a matter of time before a proper gui, non command based solution is out there.

A Jailbreaking GUI was released for the Touch Yesterday (2 Actually). Nate True is gonna release ibrickr v1.0 this week which will jailbreak the 1.1.1 iPhones and help with the lockdownd activation.

Once jailbroken, the 1.1.1 iphones can have their baseband downgraded and then unlocked or you could wait till the end of the week when anySim1.6 is out and it will unlock 1.1.1.

I got another iphone sent from the states last week. It was purchased on Sunday 7th October and came with version 1.0.2
It was bought in Portland, Oregon.
So it seems there are still a few of these around.
Unlocked perfectly using unlockthatiphone's method on page 18 of this thread.
That's the second one I've unlocked successfully now with this method

Agree, I think the bottom line is that if you are going to buy an iphone- buy it now and just wait for the unlocks to come out, there's no point in trying the complex methods out there now, you risk bricking your phone. I say buy it now because you never know if apple will release another fimware that is way harder to hack than this one, remember that apple are probably keeping an eye on all the hacking forums anyway.

ah well, for what its worth, i think the 1.0.2 iPhone will be the most valuable unit given time. ive got mine a few weeks and it great ( for me) BUT there are a few things it cant do [yet]

1.picture and sound messaging ( thoug you can email a photo)
2.voice dialling
3.voice memos ( 3rd party app available)
4.call recording
5.hard drive mode ( 3rd app available)
6.zoom in when taking pics
7.play iPod games
8.play thru TV
9.copy and paste
10.undo your last action
11.receive radio ( unless via internet )
12.no flash
13. no java
14.no real player
15.no wma
16.bluetooth is an only child...wont talk to printers, keyboards, mice or other phones
17.edit documents (will read and forward pdfs word and excel but no edit)
18.no stereo sound via bluetooth headset
19.no GPS ( maps ok, but teh phone has no gps receiver )
20.low low low ringtones ( 3rd party fix available

AND, hard to believe, IT CANNOT READ YOUR SIM CARD CONTACTS !!!!!!

having used it on a daily basis, ive removed the sim and gone back to a n95....far better device, and have decided to use the iphone for mobile internet till they ( 1.0.2 ) rocket in price to a point where ebay will allow me to sell at a profit.

its a hype gadget that is indeed beautiful, BUT far from practical. Apple WILL continue to impede the progress of hacked iPhones at will, with every update; guaranteed.I distinctly remember an apple press release stating

" game of cat and mouse " [end quote] with hacking, so i for one am not interested in playing that game, there will be only one winner and that will not be the consumer. Apple are too far ahead in that game, considering the hacker can only play "catchup"......

as for mobiles, nokia are streets ahead, they just bought navteq for 8.1 BILLION recently !..........nokia shares??!

Yes...wait and get ripped off royally. One of the papers here totted all the costs up over the two years and it came to an eye popping €1,500 or more.

Most of the info I've seen refers to either a brand new virgin 1.1.1 or a bricked 1.0.2, is there a procedure yet that will allow an unlocked 1.0.2 to be upgraded to 1.1.1 and still be unlocked with everything working?

Yay, the free unlock called "anysim" now works with firmware version 1.1.1
I've decided to get an iphone now, should have it by the end of next week from NY. I'll use my brother's mac to do the jailbreaking/activating process first though(it's much easier on osx).
One question though; my brother has an iphone and syncs with his mac- if i sync my iphone with his computer, before i connect it to mine, will it see all other pc's as "guest computers" and i wont be able to use the iphone with them?

Any top end phone on a mid range tariff will cost you that over two years

UK prices are £269 for the phone and tariffs start at £35 a month which works out at €50 which is the same as being on a talk 300 tariff with O2/Meteor - considering there are eejits paying 5-600 quid for them at the moment and then their equivalent phone bills/data charges or buying credit on top of that I'd imagine going the official way will actually work out cheaper
