I'm 32 and I've got about 12 - half of which I don't think I needed, reckon the dentist was scamming the PRSI.

Question: is it possible to have those ugly black amalgam fillings replaced with white fillings? I'd be able to open my mouth properly in company then :D

Yes it is, i've gotten that done and feel so much better for having done it.

It's about time they started selling DIY dental-repair kits in Woodies, or wherever. I'm sure that, given the right easy-to-read manual, we could do a better job than Mr Bean.
Fillings? Even my fillings have got fillings!

I was in one of those pound shops on Moore St once and saw what was described on the packaging as a "Hobby kit"... not a "dentist kit" or any sort of description relating to dentistry!
It contained one of the long pointy dealys for scraping/poking/maiming and one of those little mirrors for lookin at the backs of your teeth! :D I took a photo of it but cant remember where it is!

Staying on topic... I think I've 2. Got them both when I was in Primary School and I'm 21 now but I haven't had an appointment in bout 3 years.

Don't move this to dental care or wherever this is not a dental problem!

Just found out I need 5 fillings, most of my friends seem to have 8 by this stage. Am I lucky that I just need 5? And don't need root canal? Terrified to eat anything right now

I had 4 fillings in the space of 7 days. Paid €325 for them and then €45 for first visit and i also need a root canal €650. :(
    So bloody expensive!!!
And i am only 22, i don't like sweets or chocolate either. A tongue piercing caused 2 of the 4.

My teeth are only in situ as a testament to dental science. Root canals, fillings, porcelain veneers, white fillings, caps, mercury fillings.... I could be a model for that dental school at the lincoln gate of TCD.

Evidently there is no excuse for extractions, although I had one (only) of those aged 13.

    Novacaine. Dontchaloveit!

Picture passing something the size of a turkey through your vagina and you'll be close to the amount of pain involved.

No, The sorest part of a filling is the needle to numb your mouth. There uncomfortable with the big scary drill but there not sore.. And choking on your own spit every two minutes gets annoying aswell.

Lol! I suppose I could cope with that! uncomfortable is okay, but agony is not!

    thanks Terry ;)

I'm kinda hoping they just pull it, I have a wisdom tooth that will slot in nicely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,331 ✭✭✭✭bronte

Hope it's okay!! my wisdom teeth tend to bug me now and then grr

Yeah, they hurt when they are cutting.

makes me feel sorry for kids.

once the injections done, I'll be ok. I'll blindfold myself or something.

    oooh bout 13 I'd say....
not really my fault though as I always took good care of my teeth, had train tracks for 3 years too. Seems my teeth are naturally crevassed on top so therefore more likely to get cavities... :(
I recall the summer of spending over €500 on a few,,,
    yuck yuck!!!
