Don't move this to dental care or wherever this is not a dental problem!

Just found out I need 5 fillings, most of my friends seem to have 8 by this stage. Am I lucky that I just need 5? And don't need root canal? Terrified to eat anything right now

I didn't look after my teeth for a while and about 4 years ago went to the dentist. I had to get 13 fillings!

I have about 4, and was told by the orthodontist a couple of years ago that I'd need about 6 more. Didnt go back to the dentist after that :P

Makes blow jobs a lot more pleasurable for your partner of choice, yes?

    Ive 5 and am 23.

Include your ages in the posts so we can get some perspective. Some dentists must do fillings for the craic.

None. Infact I've had nothing done dental wise in my 25 years, apart from a regular cleaning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

Christ, that's a lot of fillings.

I'm 31 and have 4 or 5, most of which I got when I was 13 or 14 and the other one was last week (too much coke).

Although, my teeth look worse than they are because of the broken one at the front, which I can't afford to have repaired. (donations on a postcard, please).

Apparently its lovely if I rub toothpaste on my gums beforehand. So I hear. Word

None. But the last time I was at a dentist was probably five years ago. And that was an orthodontist.

How do you know you need fillings if your teeth are fine?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,367 ✭✭✭✭watna

I have about 5, I got them all in my early teens. I'm 23 now and haven't had any in a good few years. I went to the dentist last year after I hsdn't been for 5 years and I was shítting myself but I didn't need any work done. it was a miracle!

I went into the dentist about my wisdom teeth and she told me I needed 13 fillings. I don't think I did as I was with a dentist 12 months previous and he said all was fine but I got it done as it cost me nothing!

It's about time they started selling DIY dental-repair kits in Woodies, or wherever. I'm sure that, given the right easy-to-read manual, we could do a better job than Mr Bean.

I'm 36 & I've got 3 - we didn't have sugar when I was a lad. Sweetest thing we had back then were turnips, I attribute my decay to my all-consuming teenage turnip addiction.

I'm 32 and I've got about 12 - half of which I don't think I needed, reckon the dentist was scamming the PRSI.

Question: is it possible to have those ugly black amalgam fillings replaced with white fillings? I'd be able to open my mouth properly in company then :D

I was in one of those pound shops on Moore St once and saw what was described on the packaging as a "Hobby kit"... not a "dentist kit" or any sort of description relating to dentistry!
It contained one of the long pointy dealys for scraping/poking/maiming and one of those little mirrors for lookin at the backs of your teeth! :D I took a photo of it but cant remember where it is!

Staying on topic... I think I've 2. Got them both when I was in Primary School and I'm 21 now but I haven't had an appointment in bout 3 years.

I had 4 fillings in the space of 7 days. Paid €325 for them and then €45 for first visit and i also need a root canal €650. :(
    So bloody expensive!!!
And i am only 22, i don't like sweets or chocolate either. A tongue piercing caused 2 of the 4.

My teeth are only in situ as a testament to dental science. Root canals, fillings, porcelain veneers, white fillings, caps, mercury fillings.... I could be a model for that dental school at the lincoln gate of TCD.

Evidently there is no excuse for extractions, although I had one (only) of those aged 13.

    Novacaine. Dontchaloveit!

Picture passing something the size of a turkey through your vagina and you'll be close to the amount of pain involved.

No, The sorest part of a filling is the needle to numb your mouth. There uncomfortable with the big scary drill but there not sore.. And choking on your own spit every two minutes gets annoying aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,331 ✭✭✭✭bronte

Lol! I suppose I could cope with that! uncomfortable is okay, but agony is not!

    thanks Terry ;)

Eep!...would you believe ...I once chipped a tooth on an onion ring of all things!

Luckily it's not that noticable :D
