Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes, a gold colour,I saw it also on my way to Kilbeggan Sunday.
I also noticed on the same road further back on the opposite side a yard full of what appeared fiat 132's in various states of disrepair.

I've no pics as my camera is broken. But recent spots include
-derelict Fiat 132 in a yard in Longford
-collection of derelict Fords (Cortinas, Escorts and at least one 105E) in Cavan

Would be interested to see pics of the Opel graveyard in Nobber that someone mentioned.

One sad/mad idea i've had for spotting abandoned classics - on some country routes Bus Eireann and other operators use double decker buses, must be a great view over the hedges from the top deck of one of those revealing abandoned cars that woud otherwise be hidden from sight!

Of course a helicopter would be better still :D Junkyard? ;)

Where did you see the cortinas and escorts?

    The R4

    Hhmmm!
Assuming that its original paint work it can't be Irish. Renault didn't import metallic R4's. Do you think its a LHD?

Yesterday I drove past a yard near Bansha in Co Tipperary. There is a "To let" sign on the outside of the premises as the gates were closed. Quite a lot of cars in this yard. Didnt get time to stop to take pictures but at the entrance was a very good condition Vauxhall HC estate which I dont know if it is original Irish or import as there was no front reg plate, a Morris Minor in bad condition and a few Volvo S90/940 vehicles.

Saw a R4 in Kells last week parked outside a premises between the Ardee rd. and the Kingscourt rd. it was Dark Blue on original Irish plates. Paint was a bit oxidised and it had a few dents and scrapes, possibly still in use as a daily runner...

The travellers have a 72 Beetle in Sandyford, its in a really bad condition, i took a pic on the camera phone but i'm unable to send it to my email address, there's another abandoned Beetle here in Newcastle County Dublin, haven't had a close up look at it though.

Sounds good. Do you remember if it had chrome or painted bumpers. (easy way to tell age) chrome = up to 1981, painted from 1981 ish..

Can't say for sure as it was a pretty brief glimpse! I know it was a plastic grille rather than the earlier chrome grille but after that I'm not sure. It just caught my eye as my first car was a Champagne coloured R4 back around ´87...happy days!:D

    Yeh! The good old days.
your Champagne R4 was propaply a GTL (1106cc). Disc brakes on the front, slotted wheel rims and plastic door trims on the outside. Nice!

    Wow !

I wonder whats going on there. Looks like someone cut half the wing out, seems like an odd way to repair either rust or accident damage !

^ That Merc has been their for ages, along with two Mercedes W126's.

Their has been always various abandoned cars outside the front of that house for as long as I can remember. I remember their was a red Opel Corsa Mk1 there for at least 4-5 years a good while back. Never moved an inch.

No badges so I'll guess at a Standard 10! Located in Rathconrath Co. Westmeath. There looks to be a lot of rot so is probably already beyond economic repair...

Blue one is a GTL ... disc brakes etc. Nice!
Beige one I think is a TL "legend".

Good to see them up and running!

wow, nice car, shame that it's just left there. Is it an original Irish car or a recent import? There seem to be a lot of these on the roads lately.....
Nice to see the Standard, I saw two of them a few weeks ago. They both appeared to be road worthy. Just looking at this green car would I think make a worthy restoration project maybe..

Not quite abandoned, but a work in progress, that hasn't progressed to much in the last few months. Apparantly the quick repray turned into more than was expected. Still it looks like a decent car and doesn't appear to require too much to get it back on the road !

Spotted a Merc W123, white, and in seemingly good nick, in Dalys Cross, Limerick. Might not be abandoned, but didnt have a rear number plate on it.

    What the...

is there milk in those bottles ?!

Yeah that milk float is gas...................someone finished their milk round and parked it up !

Funny to think how much more green things were back in the 70's, re-using milk bottles, electric delivery vehicles, ham, fruit, veg all sold by weight in brown paper bags, return for deposit kids drinks and a lot of produce sold to your door, bread, fruit and veg etc.. so only one van being used instead of dozens of vehicles going to the shops !!

Sorry..............I went a bit off topic there !!

    Hi Ben,
its on the N7, about 20k from Limerick. Coming from Dublin, you pass first thru'
Birdhill, then Dalys Cross is the next village you come to. Theres a Statoil on the left, and Jerrys Bar on the right (not sure, but it could be owned by a certain international hooker, no sniggering at the back there! ;) )

I was coming back from Limerick when i saw the W123, so its kinda behind Jerrys Bar.

For a thoroughly abandoned classic, theres a W123T, again white, but this model comes with a moss-green patina, at a workshop in Toomevara, Co. Tipp, again on the N7

...........yeah I know this one alright ! I've watched it deteriorate over the last 5 years or more !

I cant remember Dalys Cross, though I go to Limerick failry regulalry but I always go into Killaloe/Ballina as I have friends there !

These two beauties are on the side of the road in Celbridge (within a few hundred yards of each other).

The Roller has quite a green bloom developing (surprised the flying whatshername hasn't been robbed!) and the Yanktank has been sprayed with undercoat with outstanding results! :D

    Lovely, thanks.

Though if it's been sitting out for 5 years I'd bet it's not worth restoring.

I've seen many potential restorations go beyond the point of restoration by simply being left out in the elements, with their owners refusing to sell at a reasonable price or sell at all at any price.
It seems if you ask about something they presume it must be worth a fortune and hold out for their pay day which never comes of course:(
I'm currently watching at least 3 vehicles going through this process.

I just heard of a classic car auction coming up in Kilkenny in January,so thought I'd put all my old junk:eek: on a pallet and put it through, see how it does.Any one want to make an offer on a w107 hardtop, perfect condition before it goes under the hammer:)
