    Hi there,

i'm looking to join a gym and this one would be reasonably handy to get to. I've looked at te Sheridon Park one yesterday and although it's ok, it's a bit dark and i'd like something a bit bigger and brighter. I am wondering though how packed the Westpark gets? Or from what time onwards? I'd probably be down there in the evenings, around 5ish and on the w/e. I'd be interested to hear people's experiences with this gym, so far I've only read good things.

    Many tx

There's a much better gym a stone's throw away in Tallaght, Crossfit :)

Private plugs aside I'm a member of Westpark so here's my highs and lows.

    Highs:
    • Opening hours - very flexible
    • Swimming pool, always in good condition, rarely packed
    • Changing Facilities always clean

    Lows:
    • Concept IIs in a state of disrepair - actually it's mainly the performance monitors that are banjaxed, but the chains aren't oiled regularly. You can tell there's issues when you test the drag factor against the dampner settings
    • Weights area very small - tends to get very crowded in the evening (okay in the morning 6-8). They've only one squat rack and some of the plates are damaged
    • Poor customer service. I've seen their trainers in action and they aren't knowledgable enough - granted this could be the norm for all big box gyms.

    Hope this helps,
    Colm

    Thanks Colm,

I suppose the best thing to do is go up there around 5 and see how busy it is then. What are Concept IIs?

Concept IIs are the rowing machines - really the only cardio machines that are worth a damn.

I should add the caveat that I've hardly ever been there at five, any of my evening visits have been 7-9.

yeah i was in the westpark and i wouldnt recommend it, the weights area is quite small and if ya go up in the evenings its very hard to get a bench for yourself, have to say i wasnt a fan of this gym at all
