    If it's limited to conventional warfare (no WMD's, no guerilla tactics) I think you have to say the US would walk it, modern all out warfare is basically about air superiority, and the US is miles ahead of the EU on that front as far as hardware and numbers go. But then again, if both sides were given a few years to prepare, with Brittish military training, German engineering, and Eastern european strong men, I think we could take them.

    Depends on which side was invading, by i'm guessing you meant the US, as we've already invaded them :D In that case the US would be at a slight disadvantage because they'd take out many of their own men with friendly fire. You have to remember though that if they dropped so much as one hand grenade in France then the French would probably surrender straight away.

    Without France there would be no America so I think they should be a bit more thankful to the French. :)

    Airpower may be the key but you need a base to fly them out of.
    Any US carrier could easily be taken out by a nuclear tipped torpedo which would cripple any offensive by the US.
    I think they did some show on the History channel too about which was the most powerful and advanced Tank and it was the German one that won it hands down.

    Europe would definitely win with a superior knowledge of geography. I couldn't imagine where the Americans would end up.

    Wars are won by infantry,not airpower.A land war in europe would drag on for years with neither side winning very descisie gains.If it was possible to blockade europe,or america for that matter it could prevent vital supplies arriving from overseas and go some way to starving the enemy into giving up the ghost.

    Israel wouldn't get involved. They have worries of their own closer to home.

    Europe has a very limited power-projection ability: The US has the transport equipment to take the fight to Europe, Europe does not have the equivalent capability to take the fight to the US. As a result, the fighting and destruction would probably be happening in France, Ireland, or Spain as the US tries for a foothold in Europe. Probably Ireland, as it's easier to isolate and most defenseless.

    Those 'Top Ten' shows seem to be targetted towards 14-year-olds and are tailored to the audience. I always thought it suspicious when US equipment kept coming out as #1 on the various lists. Suspiscions were confirmed when, on the Tanker's Forum, it was reported that when the 'Top Ten Tanks' show aired in the UK, the Leopard 2 won. When it aired in the US, M1 Abrams won.

    Back on topic, two hypothetical books written on the subject are "Cauldron", by Larry Bond (US v EU), and "The Ten Thousand" by Harold Coyle (US v Germany)

    Britain has the only real army in Europe. The rest are just defense forces really, and our little bit of green in the pond would only be useful for paramilitary bombings if invaded.

    The yanks couldn't afford to go to war with us and the middle east at the same time. They would have to nuke us all to win, otherwise they would face a long and protracted guerrilla war against much better equipped and better trained opponents than they currently face in Iraq.

    If income tax is raised to 10,000%, the government might be able to put a deposit on a Eurofighter.
