Think if you read it again it says that "they didn't give it away to charity shops (the poster was saying they could have for good PR) but they (BT's) put them into a skip themselves".
    Opps my mistake.

THe whole arguement from the OP is pointless. A normal bussiness practice dressed up in a sinsiter scam view.

All the points about is being a rip off or over-priced are most likely ignorance. Some goods are simply only avilable in BT. THe only way to know if something is over-priced is to know manufacturing costs etc...You would also have to go into the story quite regularly to check prices to know this.

I don't shop there becasue I would not spend that much money on a high fashion item. I don't see value in it. The fact I could probably not really afford to buy my clothes is irrelevant. I see football jerseys in the same way as I don't see the point in paying €60 to advertise a mobile phone company on my chest. BT is what it is and it doesn't suit my taste. I have bought presents in there as they were the only Irish suppliers.

Have to say I find that very surprising, I work in Brown Thomas and if ever there is a complaint of that sort they usually give the customer the benefit of the doubt. You definitely can't call them cheap because they lose thousands of euro of merchandise every year because we're not allowed ask customers how many items they bring into the fitting room because "we trust our customers". It's a bit stupid.

You'll always get a few idiots that think because they work in BT they are better than everyone else but most of the people who work there are really nice and friendly. You get trained in customer care skills so most of the staff are very helpful
Dont make me laugh  I have scoured the internet for Brown Thomas Customer Service and could not find it, in fact all that keeps coming up are job positions requiring "excellent customer service skills' but noting at all for the 'customer' to contact! I had the face ripped off me in there yesterday by "Jo" the manager of "The whole floor, the whole floor" for attempting to exchange some jo malone perfume. she stood too close to me the whole time, about two inches from my nose, she was condescending, and aggressive, tried to bully me. She refused to tell me her name, although i did eventually get it out of her, then refused to tell me her bosses name. i couldnt believe it. Eventually she let slip the bosses name, mid rant, " I am not going to give You jackie byrnes name, blah blah, .." at which point i said, ah, jackie bynre. right. and turned to leave. then she goes, thank you. (like **** you) like a school bully. seriously ! i went back and said, "im sorry? what are u thanking me for, exactly? you'll hear from me." and walked off. jesus!

Did you try the Brown Thomas website... under "Contact Us" http://www.brownthomas.com/Default.aspx?tabid=82

Sorry but really don't think you exactly "scoured the internet". I got there in 2 clicks.

Little known BT fact. When the place flooded a while back, there was tons of cosmetics with damaged packaging. Now being Brown Thomas they obviously couldn't sell produce with damaged packaging (heavan forbid:rolleyes: ) so rather than sell it off cheap, or what could have been great PR, donated it to charity shops to sell on, they decided to dump it all in a big skip.

They throw out all the stuff thats slightly torn and stuff aswell. Seems fair enough to me as obviously you'd just go to this charity shop you speak of and buy it at a discounted price. Then they'd get no business.

Im not sure about this, but do some charities just sell to less well off people? I doubt Brown thomas would like their clothes to be seen on bums.

    I agree with this poster.
Brown Thomas is an absolute rip off.
Overpriced in every department bar the electrical.
If I want to get a high quality item I wont buy it there.
They're usually cheaper than Arnotts for clothes!

Seems fair enough to me,imagine you bought some new CK's and there were pubes or skid marks in them!

I used to shop here all the time for loads of expensive stuff - homewares and cosmetics mainly, but clothing occasionally too.

I had one or two bad experiences there over a few months, but eventually, the camel's back was broken.

I had a very bad experience with a sales assistant there about 4 months ago who I found was completely ignorant of her own products, called me a liar and actually laughed in my face with vicious derision when I had the temerity to suggest that a particular product really existed, only to be snapped at when I actually picked the very product off one of her shelves.......

A disgusting display from a jumped-up little madam - she really made me feel like something she'd stepped in, and since the initial shock has worn off, I've refused to shop there. In my opinion, the level of customer service in BT has degraded significantly in the last 3 years or so.

I don't find BT any more expensive than other shops in Dublin

Are you serious? I went in there a while ago, picked up a horrible shirt on what looked to be a bargain rack and it was e395, in or around. Then I saw a jumper for e900... but that's the norm in Dublin yeah?

I find it funny the BTLs (BT Lovers) actually defend a shop! ha! It's been pointed out "Why do you care what people spend there money on?" - Why do YOU care what people's opinion of a shop is.

    I'm neutral, I don't shop there, I've been in there but I have nothing for/against a shop.

The particular example in question seems rather .. bad. If paying for something new, you should be given something new. No bull****.

there is a level of snootiness about the place, i remember one day wandering in and i happened to be in scruffy student mode, but that included €180 boots and €300 jacket (i'm into the outdoors, and i like practical high end kit, and the boots definately looked as tough they'd been up many a mountain) and when i was looking at stuff i was made uncomfortable by the girls working there.
I'm willing to spend money on good clothes for ocassions, or good clothes that will get lots of wear (like the jacket and boots). but my hoodie and ripped/frayed (and not in a pre ripped way) seemed a problem.

People are not merely criticising a shop, people are calling those who shop in the aforementioned shop: retards. The zeneth of irony.

How does where one shop determin one's degree of intelligence? What a farcical, moronic, grotesque, unfounded, false, offensive post. Get a life.

My Dad brought my sisters Gucci watch in to get a new strap put on.

It was done there and then, 65 Euros.

Turns out my 'Dad' was Done there and then. The 'new' strap was old and had a worn appearance, nice.

My Dad had to bring it back, got his money back, and they took back the recently fitted strap and put back on the first one.

I would have thought I could trust them to do a job correctly. They should have handed back the old strap and not worry bout taking back an oul worn strap.

What will they do with the worn strap, . . . flog it off again??? Chancers

I think the guy working at the counter is called Mr Trotter.

    Heart bleeds...BT..Gucci..don't expect my sympathy

These threads really bring out the ar*eholes around here.i find it quite sad that peoples lives are so dull and boring that they feel it necessary to attack people who have worked hard to earn their money and spend it on nice clothes in a nice shop.

The person doesn't deserve basic consumer rights because of the brand of the item and the shop in which they bought a service?
You wouldn't see such petulance on a playground. Grow up.
