There's a heap of them livin in bushes near Dublin airport. They must really have had a hard time from where they come from if they have to come here and live like beggars/thieves. Truth be told at least they can get money here from begging. I'm far more concerned with Muslim extremeists who wish to see Sharia law here in the west. I'd rather get mugged than blown up. Deport those who wish to degrade our society and diminish our quality of life. You know who I'm talking about.

Or possibly that they know that they'll just get a slap on the wrist if the public prosecutor even brings the case to court, whereas in their home country I'd imagine they are much more eager to deal with the problem.

 Can these people even claim refugee status anymore, now that Romania is in the EU, I'd hope not but then Irish law does tend to be a bit stupid:( ?

It's quite sad to see the likes of these or the muslim extremists giving all the ordinary Romanians/muslims a bad name.

Im not going to name any names (although i should) but what is wrong with people in this good dahm country. Could people please go out and get a better education? Some of them comments - people should be ashamed. There is no need for this type of xenophobia or racism and it is not wanted. COP ON!!
Im very disappointed. Im actually ashamed. I only put in a comment a few mins ago about how i felt Ireland was becoming less racist and xenophobic but i think i will have to retract it now after reading some of the above remarks.
I honestly expected more from Irish people, i dont know why though.
I dont know what else to say here.
Some of you are just horrible narrow minded uneducated racist bigots.

I would rather not argue with people like that to be honest!
Has anyone ever tried to make friends with any Roma??? I doubt it!

All i can say is that i hope ye's are all old men and women because if you are the youth of today, with attitudes like that, our future is screwed. All we need is another McDowell in Justice.

Hold on a minute, the Roma's are nothing but bad news. They are not exactly enamored by others right across europe. And then you hear about all the ATM robberies. TBH I havent seen too many romas working in shops etc. Nobody would have a problem with them if they came to this country to work. However the vast majority of them come to rob and steal.

How can you say that man? Ye just said ye dont know any of them so how can ye make a comment like that? How many Roma's are in Ireland at the minute? Do you know? NO! So how can ye say the vast majority of them are here to "rob and steal"? It could only be a minority.
I think you are only talkin about the women aswell man. Can you tell what a male Roma looks like? Do you see many Roma men beggin on the street? Most of them are out working. Its only the women that you see and ye can only tell that they are Roma because of their distinctive clothing, but the men dont wear that.
In many cultures it is not exceptable for women to work, and maybe Roma is one of them cultures. So you should be a little bit more understanding and a little less judgemental of a whole race of people when you do not even know one of them.

ethnocentrism/ethnocentric are people that look at the world only from the perspective of their own culture.
bigot is someone who is prejudiced and intolerant of other peoples opinions and lifestyles that differ from their own.

Final warning: Tone it down a few notches. I do not want to have to ban you, if you've a point to make make it sensibly and politely otherwise don't bother.

I was explaining what a bigot and ethnocentrism means!!!!!!!!!!!
Its not as if i called anyone any names. We are all intitled to our opinions and this is how i see our great country.

You indirectly called stepbar a bigot, you're not merely defining what the word means. I quoted your last post only out of convenience. The warning is for posts across multiple threads.

All I'm asking you to do is tone it down a bit, and that's mostly because I don't want to have to deal with you and others at each other's throats tomorrow. You are entitled to your opinion but that doesn't mean you get to express it anyway you please.

Need to remember to pull a "nonbeliever" the next time someone offers me a drink, I mean the cheek of them assuming that most Irish people drink alcohol!
    Damned enthnocentric bigots!:p

Roma I have encountered many, had some problems with them stealing when I worked in a shop, as did others in other branches of the chain. Have also had the ones calling around door to door, one day one of them leaned too far forward while at the door and her "baby" came undone, was just a bundle of cloth, nothing inside. Have had friends and family falling victim to their aggressive begging too (they'll grab you until you pay up, effectively mugging you just without the knife/syringe), so gee... wonder why I feel any convicted of a crime should be sent home? And I made it clear that I feel the same about Irish people abroad, we don't need our tourists giving us a bad name in other countries, if they cause hassle send them back here so the rest of us who behave ourselves can remain welcome where-ever.

Romanians I have worked with a few and found them sound on the whole (one had an excessive hero worship for Vlad the Impaler, was a bit unsettling...).

 Maybe you might want to check the sentence again for grammer, instead of explaining words which I'm well familiar with

Abdulhakim Yusuf, recently convicted of heroin possession and dealing. He was caught by Gardai 5 times in 4 months. The heroin seized on him was 35% of all heroin seized in Cork at that time. Recently went to jail.

Makes sense to me to deport him, he's no interest or intention of contribution to the betterment of Irish society, just spreading misery.

    oh boy..

If you have been following any of these debates you'd have realised that most people distinguish between Romanian and Roma. It's like the difference between Irish people in the UK and Irish Travellers in the UK. In both cases the lack of integration means an us and them view, secretly you envy the fact that they aren't wage slaves and can get away with stuff you'd like to. But you don't envy their life expectancy though.

I was referring to another posters classification of Romania, nothing more.

Well, that Nigerian woman with the autistic kid in Cork is being deported. Obviously a dangerous criminal...send her back where she came from...another job well done by the Dept. of Justice

Well that was McD. The new Minister can still turn McD's decision around and grant them permission to stay. It will be interesting to find out!

Haven't heard this one, what did she do? Or was she simply a rejected assylum case?

They were rejected asylum by McDowell. Her son has autism and in some Nigerian cultures it means you are possesed. If they are sent back she could be persecuted on them grounds.

Balls.Nigeria is a UN "safe" country. These people are telling lies plain and simple and its because they think the irish people will beleive anything.Remember the woman who said she'd be stoned to death if she returned to nigeria and RAR all took up the case on her behalf? She was proved to be a liar by the nigerian ambassador to ireland. And Kunle the Crimainal who was "shot in the leg bacause he wouldnt join a gang"?Another bloody liar..These people are con-artists plain and simple, the mere fact that they didnt apply for asylum in the first country they landed in means they're screwing the system ireland has no dierect flights to nigeria.

I don't think the Nigerian autism case is a good example of a non-Irish person commiting a serious crime, and deserving of being sent back to their country of origin. Of course you also know that.

In this off-thread discussion, there certainly is a case for the mother and child being allowed to stay. Its not a long-term answer though, Ireland can't solve the autism issues and prejudices of various 2nd and 3rd world countries by granting asylum. For example people in Darfur have a more pressing case. In order to escape murder and rape they need asylum - "a shelter from danger or hardship".

A job bloody well done, she's an econimic migrant claiming asylum under false pretences,we've enough liars, criminals and scroungers in this country allready.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,766 ✭✭✭Reku

If that's her reason for being here then I find her story highly dubious.

This is why I think that the whole thing of not letting assylum seekers work is a bad idea, I mean we have plenty of our own claiming dole but not actively seeking employment as they are happy to lie around and get paid for it, surely that would indicate that foreigners hearing that we'll pay them to come here and do nothing would also try hop on the bandwagon.
Have a timelimit to their funding, after which make them get jobs, afterall if they really are fleeing from something so terrible then having to put some effort into earning a living is a small price to pay.

What's so wrong about being an economic migrant. Surely a person can move abroad to better themselves and their family. We have thousands of Poles doing it and thousands of Irisah abroad doing it. So why not Nigerians? They're not all con artists.
