But these people weren't under investigation for there own deaths and others around them. I think that is why some people are confused at seeing a seemingly large outpouring of grief for someone under such an investigation.

Maybe it's partially because the whole thing is rife with speculation and we're still in the initial shock phase where I for one can hardly believe it would actually happen.

Although when the phrase 'child-killer' is used, it does send a shiver and would probably stop me in my tracks saying what a great entertainer he was. Flip-side, maybe for Benoit it was a breakdown/temporary insanity, it's not having the same effect as if he was a serial killer.

PS stipey made me sad about Bambi's mother.

Not really, it just touches on a few nerves with certain people, if you know what I mean. ;)

It doesn't bother me in the slightest that someone would pay tribute to an alleged killer. The main points are that a) its alleged still and b) paying tribute isn't a crime.

It may seem very insensitive to the family of the deceased, but as long as those paying tribute are not carrying out copycat killings then I don't see what the problem is.

Edit - Had members of my family been killed and the alleged killer was having tributes payed to him, I may have a different view. :(

    It's not speculation anymore

It's sickening that it's true. For such a great performer and, on the surface at least, such a nice guy, to do something like this is truly awful.
The report mentions steroids. I would imagine that he, like most wrestlers, would be on painkillers of some sort.

    Shame.

I disagree. Steroids is a real problem in Pro wrestling and they can cause serious depression and paranoia. I don't know if Benoit was on steroids but it is definitely a possibility.

I paid tribute at first, but as the story unfolded, I know hope he rots in hell and take back every compliment Ive ever directed his way.

R.I.P to his wife and son.

I was never into wrestling but over the past few months I've been watching it in the early hours of the morning and enjoying it for what it is.

Benoit was one of the wrestlers that I liked. He had no pretensions, no ego and unlike many of his fellow wrestlers he didn't try to hog the spotlight. He was there because he enjoyed it. From the stories I've read he seemed to be a genuinely nice person who would go out of his way to help fellow wrestlers and fans.

The events of the past day are shocking. But I find it difficult to believe that he just snapped and went crazy over one weekend. The circumstances surrounding what happened may never truly be known.

As for paying tribute to him, I feel that he deserves it. Think of all the joy he brought to millions of people around the world. If it wasn't for Benoit the wrestling world would be a very differant place.

Our sympathies should lie with both Chris, his wife and son.

I was very into wrestling up until about two years ago. Since then, I have paid attention to any large developments, and watched some of my many DVDs (including Chris Benoit's two disc one) from time to time. When I heard of this, I wasn't shocked or heartbroken like I thought I would be, as I was a big fan back in the day. I'm actually really surprised at how little I reacted. This is the first thread I have posted on regarding the subject, and there have been many!

Anyway, the guy was the second best heavyweight wrestler of the last ten years or so (behind Kurt Angle), in my opinion. He has had dozens of great matches, and him winning the Heavyweight title at Wrestlemania XX was arguably the greatest moment I had ever seen in pro wrestling. I'll miss him for moments like that, and if the circumstances of his death were different, (had he just killed himself, for example) he would definately be remembered as one of the best ever.

However, he killed his family, and that is not something that can be ignored when talking about apparently unrelated moments in his career. I can't see myself watching his matches again any time soon, even if many were about as good as pro wrestling can be.

so CNN report that authorities have said he did kill his family.

Why do people want to pay tribute to this guy who is police say was a double murderer??

    I don't understand the mentality.

The guy was disturbed enough to KILL his life partner, the woman he presumably loved enough and his innocent defenceless child.

Let's praise him from high because he was an entertainer and forget about the double homicide!

Only twisted sick people can praise him in this situation.

@slumped:I don't think the thread you started on the wrestling forum will last too long. It is still to raw for most of the people there, think about it, a lot of people are getting to grips with their hero being a murderer. That sort of question won't go down to well.

Personally I cannot pay tribute to a man who killes his wife and child.
I did initially pay tribute when I first heard the news. Like many others I assumed it to be a tragic accdent.

With most of the news out in the open now, clearly nobody should pay tribute to a murderer.

Hmmm interesting point - but dont forget he isnt the only "celebrity" to commit murder, etc - Leslie Grantham who played Dirty Den in Eastenders killed someone in the 60s and served his time. As did Don King, and quite possibly Phil Spector to name but a few.

Do you have all the facts for this particular case? Do you know for a fact that he killed them in cold blood? Is it not possible that he was suffering from some kind of breakdown or psychosis? These things do and can happen.

Can I just say that I paid tribute to him.

But I paid tribute to the wrestler Chris Benoit, before anything was heard about how he died. As I am sure most other users of the pro wrestling forum did.

Ok, fair enough if that was before anyone found out what had happened.
But why are you still paying tribute (in your sig) to a man you now know killed his wife and 7-year-old son? Doesn't that seem a bit odd?

Wrestling Mods twice deleted a thread I set up there which asked them for their opinions on the latest news.

Both were deleted - yet neither broke the charter/forum rules!

    Anyone else find this strange?

Now there is a ban on the forum for ANYONE doing this sort of thing.

    Madness.

Slumped, as a mod you should know better than to question another Mods action in any thread other than the Moderators or Feedback forum?

Bombidol has posted a thread clearly stating why....this who incident was simply bringing the worst out of people and very few showed that they were able to talk about it without resulting to petty insults and garbage posting.

To keep peace on the forum discussion the topic was shut down because the forum users were having a hard time remaining civil over it.

Now then, did you open this thread to discuss the topic at hand or to take pot shots at other Mods outside of the correct channels?

I am not questioning any Mods actions that protect the forum from abuse - but I've not broken any rules.

Bombidol only revised the rules AFTER my post.

I am not taking pot shots at anyone - but wonder why the forum in question is so sensitive to open and free discussion.

If Tiger Woods had done the same thing - do you think the Golf Mods would stop threads discussing it?
