€50 for those gigs is ridiculous. They charged €15 when they played Whelans about 18 months ago.

JonnyArson, what do you think is a fair price??

They're one of the biggest bands around and if they were playing ... the tickets would be around 30 or 35 quid. This is more of a day event where they'll probably have 2 or 3 decent support bands so it seems pretty fair to me.

i'm not going myself coz i've seen them before but this is no rip-off.

    €40 absolute tops.

They haven't even released their 2nd album yet and judging from what songs i've heard they're nowhere near as good as the material from their first album. To charge that price without people hearing the new album ain't cool in my book. Sorry, no band with one album released is worth €50, indoor or outdoor gig.

They're certainly playing the commercial game now!

Im hoping 50% of those sales are misguided touts.

well clearly you are wrong as they sold out the first date..

:D That's why Aiken and the band are charging what they like because most concert going fans are happy to be fleeced. I bet you there's plenty of touts kicking themselves when the 2nd date was added ;)

plenty of recordings of their latest gigs floating around the web.

Sorry, no band with one album released is worth €50, indoor or outdoor gig.

I would have to agree with that.

I mean, they'll probably have their whole set finished up in one hour.

    Heh heh...

Though tbh, I am very surprised that this sold out. Are they really that big? 20,000+ is quite alot of people.

By the time the gig happens, the second album will be out a few months so obviously they'll have more than an hours worth of material.

Anyone who thinks a gig in Malahide Castle, Ardgillan Castle, Marlay Park or any of these types of places would only be Euro 40 maximum is living in fantasy-land - but i'm sure you already know that and just wanna argue the point for the sake of it.

EDIT: There's a gig tonight with a band on their second album for more than Euro 50 i think so it's clear who's being ripped off! (And i'm not talking about whether you think the band are good or not - anyone who's going to buy a ticket to one of these gigs obviously likes the band, what we're talking about is value for money)

The fact of the matter is that nearly all gigs sell out in Dublin. It's getting ridiculous. Everything sells out.

Well, €50 (for the cheap seats) into the Ireland-Wales match on Saturday or €50 into the Arctic Monkeys in June?

No competition!!!! :D Really looking forward to this gig!!!!

And for those southsiders wondering about getting out to the gig just take a northbound DART (although not one marked Binn Éadair ;) ). 25 mins or so from the city centre?

Anyway anyone know how long it would take to get from Dublin city center to Malahide Castle?

Lordgoat, if you're going to try and slag someone off, I'd advise you to learn how to spell or is "disgrundled" a word that "poor little" me doesn't know about? Tosser.

I was hoping they would add Delorentos, gonna be an even better gig now.

Where did you see that these were added as support?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,324 ✭✭✭Alter-Ego

    Ah delorentos are everywhere.

They'd play a 5yr olds birthday party if the price was right.

Does anyone know what the situation is with parking in Malahide Castle?

Drove past the castle out of interest a couple of weeks back, doesn't look easily accessible even though i was told by someone in Malahide you can normally park in the grounds for concerts. I realise this is a slightly different gig from Andrea Bocelli!

With the amount of rain we've been having over the last few days I wouldn't be too confident about parking a car in a field!! Actually, the parking would be fine it'd be the getting out that I'd be more worried about!!!

Anyone got times for the when support is playing and when Monkeys come on? I'm guessing around 8.

I fancy giving the Delorentos a miss: Coral and Supergrass are a defo though. :D

Fingers crossed it's ok tomorrow, but I'd say wellies will be an essential! :p
