Not a band I'd have much interest in myself, but on a nice day the venue could make it.

Wonder what 'Fingal County Council' are like :D
Aiken Promotions are proud to present…

ARCTIC MONKEYS (with the support of Fingal County Council)

Live in the Unique Setting of Malahide Castle,
    Saturday 16th June 2007
Tickets will go on sale Next Thursday 22nd Feb ’07 at 9am

Sheffield four-piece Arctic Monkeys have announced a headline Irish gig for the summer 2007. They will play at Malahide Castle, Co Dublin on Saturday 16th June. This will only be the band’s second headline gig in Ireland (the first being in Whelans, Dublin in 2005)

The band release their second album Favourite Worst Nightmare on 20 April 2007 – preceded by the new single “Brianstorm” on 13 April.

Arctic Monkeys released their debut album WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM, THAT’S WHAT I’M NOT in January of last year. On it’s release it achieved the position of the fastest-selling debut album in British chart history. It spent 3 weeks on the number 1 spot here in Ireland and has since reached multi-platinum status.

Arctic Monkeys were the winners of the 2006 Mercury Music Prize.

Their first two singles “I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor” and “When The Sun Goes Down” both entered the UK chart at Number 1.

The band released a DVD Scummy Man last year - The Warp Films short was inspired by the gritty urban tale of Arctic Monkeys’ “When The Sun Goes Down” and developed by an award winning production team in consultation with the band.

Tickets will be from €49.20 General Admission and will go on sale next Thursday 22nd Feb at 9am from all Ticketmaster outlets nationwide, booking line 0818 719 300 and online www.aikenpromotions.com

If they have a decent support band and the sun is shining this could be one of the gigs of the year.

Meh, they're better suited to a venue like the <snip> imo. And not worth €50.

    2) €50...hmmm

Saw a bit of a q outside of Sound Cellar on Nassau St just before 9.

just bought them on the net there and really cant see there being a problem getting them. anyone know how big the venue is?

No surprise to see them still on sale. Theyve alienated a big chunk of their fanbase with the timing as well as the price not to mention alot of people are probably assuming an appearance at at least one of the summer festivals in the country.

10000 tickets. it won't be sold out for months. at least the touts will get screwed:D

well i stand corrected! you can easly buy tickets over net...oh well.

i thought they where more popular then Razorlight anyway who sold out in like 30 mins..

id say the capacity of Malahide is in the region of 20,000, where as the RDS is about 5,000 afaik.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭storka

Malahide has a much larger capacity than 20k but they are limiting gigs to 15k.

and considering that they've just been announced for T in the Park, an appearance at one particular festival is highly likely, expect the announcement after this gig sells out.

According to the Planning Application for the upcoming Andrea Bocelli at the same venue the capacity will be just over 5000. However, that gig is an all seater so I reckon it'd be fair to say that for the Arctic's the capacity would be in the region of 5-10K.

I'm actually quite surprised that the gig hasn't sold out yet. They just need one hit single to be released from their new album which is out in April for the demand for tickets to be increased.

From what i can see on that application it says 10000 seated under the Proposed Capacity heading

Picked up 2 today and about 4pm, said they had roughly 600 left. Any news on the support?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,058 ✭✭✭JJ

I tink it might be sold out. There doesn't seem to be any left online.

That upcoming Andrea Bocelli concert was last summer!! And as playa3 said the capacity was 10,000 all seated. The AM capacity is set at 15,000 for the gig even though the grounds could take higher.

FYI I hear that they wont be appearing at "one particular festival" this summer.

Yeah sorry you're right. I just Googled "Malahide Castle Planning application" and then done a quick ctrl f for capacity and it mentione 5000. My bad. :o

€50 for those gigs is ridiculous. They charged €15 when they played Whelans about 18 months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭goodfela

JonnyArson, what do you think is a fair price??

They're one of the biggest bands around and if they were playing ... the tickets would be around 30 or 35 quid. This is more of a day event where they'll probably have 2 or 3 decent support bands so it seems pretty fair to me.

i'm not going myself coz i've seen them before but this is no rip-off.

    €40 absolute tops.

They haven't even released their 2nd album yet and judging from what songs i've heard they're nowhere near as good as the material from their first album. To charge that price without people hearing the new album ain't cool in my book. Sorry, no band with one album released is worth €50, indoor or outdoor gig.

They're certainly playing the commercial game now!

Im hoping 50% of those sales are misguided touts.

    #Elites wrote:
well clearly you are wrong as they sold out the first date..

:D That's why Aiken and the band are charging what they like because most concert going fans are happy to be fleeced. I bet you there's plenty of touts kicking themselves when the 2nd date was added ;)
    #Elites wrote:
and "judging from what songs i've heard they're nowhere near as good as the material from their first album" you have heard stuff from the second album? where?

plenty of recordings of their latest gigs floating around the web.

Sorry, no band with one album released is worth €50, indoor or outdoor gig.

I would have to agree with that.

I mean, they'll probably have their whole set finished up in one hour.
    Toast wrote:

    Heh heh...

Though tbh, I am very surprised that this sold out. Are they really that big? 20,000+ is quite alot of people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭goodfela

By the time the gig happens, the second album will be out a few months so obviously they'll have more than an hours worth of material.

Anyone who thinks a gig in Malahide Castle, Ardgillan Castle, Marlay Park or any of these types of places would only be Euro 40 maximum is living in fantasy-land - but i'm sure you already know that and just wanna argue the point for the sake of it.

EDIT: There's a gig tonight with a band on their second album for more than Euro 50 i think so it's clear who's being ripped off! (And i'm not talking about whether you think the band are good or not - anyone who's going to buy a ticket to one of these gigs obviously likes the band, what we're talking about is value for money)

The fact of the matter is that nearly all gigs sell out in Dublin. It's getting ridiculous. Everything sells out.

Well, €50 (for the cheap seats) into the Ireland-Wales match on Saturday or €50 into the Arctic Monkeys in June?

No competition!!!! :D Really looking forward to this gig!!!!

And for those southsiders wondering about getting out to the gig just take a northbound DART (although not one marked Binn Éadair ;) ). 25 mins or so from the city centre?

Lordgoat, if you're going to try and slag someone off, I'd advise you to learn how to spell or is "disgrundled" a word that "poor little" me doesn't know about? Tosser.
