Not impressed with Sophie Ellis Bextor, think I'll stay in the pub until nearer 8.
I'm pit standing, so I guess it won't matter what time I go in.
I'm going tomorrow as well but seated so I might see her then.

    Anyone going for beers beforehand?

I was thinking of the HorseShow House or Paddy Cullens. I work right beside it so I'll be supping from about 4. :D

I wonder would the fact that it wasn't a sell out have anything to do with it?

Nah I think they need the stage gear for the Wembly gig this weekend, probably the equip that was damaged in Europe was meant to be setup in Wembly, but looks like they'll need to truck over the gear tomorrow to be ready.

    Heard it was brill.
He came on at 8.20, had a 20 minute break during and left the stage for the last time at 11.20pm!

    Hi,

Was at the concert last night, not a huge fan of his but bought the missus tickets for her birthday and got dragged along.

However...the tickets I bought were 110 euro each and stated " possible restricted view ". Now when I tell you all we could see was his f*cking feet I am not lying. We were in the tall stand at the back of the RDS and could see nothing at all. I am so peed off today, really feel ripped off. Also, when ordering the tix, there is no mention of any view restriction. If we had bought the cheapest tickets I could understand a bit, but i think they're really taking advantage. I took pics of the view we had so that I could approach ticketmaster / aiken promotions, but am i wasting my time?

    Cheers

It was absolutely brilliant, his voice is good and strong - he sat on a stool for most of the slow songs - he did move around the stage a lot but without leaving himself unable to sing. There was good banter with the crowd and he looked like he enjoyed the show. The light show was good- obviously better as it got darker. He was on stage for over two hours and he sang Edge of Heaven for the first time in 21 years :p . Everyone seemed to know the words. I lost my voice at I'm your Man! :)

Griping aswell.... not a huge fan but he was great, that is bar the ridiculous 20 min interval.

We bought seats tickets too, first of all they weren't were the seat plan said they were. We had to walk from one end of the arena to the other through crowds of people on the pitch, it was REALLY dangerous. None of the seat rows were marked so there were ruptions about people being in the wrong seats.

Lastly, the row were I was was had 4 or 5 out of there faces drunk 20ish year old girls, screaming, shouting and falling on their faces during most of the concert. Some friends were on the pitch and they said there were loads of really pissed people there too... it was George Michael not heavy metal  They destroyed the concert for everyone near to them

Id say they are lawyered to the hilt on this. Call them up and if they dont offer you anything just head straight to The Sun or The Herald or The Metro. They LOVE this sort of thing. Its perfect human interest drivel and you might be able to shame Aiken into some decent reimbursment for PR sake.

At least ye got to see him. He's cancelled todays concert. I was at it and do agree that there was a lot of drunk people at it. I saw Shane McGowan stumbling around the place after it with his missus

I'd say if he is coming back it will have to be before or soon after the 26th of July as that seems to be currently listed as the final date of the tour.
Sounds like a great gig, its a real shame he's not playing tonight :(

    I'd doubt he's coming back.
If he was, why would the promotors allow punters the choice of
    (A) get your money back
    or
    (B) keep the tickets for the "re-arranged" gig.

that there was a lot of drunk people at it.

That could be at any concert but with the price of tickets for GM and the fact it would have been for the more "mature" punter, seems a bit strange that there were loads of drunk people there.
If I had spent €86 on a pitch ticket, I think I would have remained sober(ish) until at least after the gig.

I think the opposite, if he wasn't coming back there would only be one option and that would be refund. They usually give the money back option as the new date mightn't suite folks who have tickets but are going on Holidays on the re-arranged date for example.

Yup, I would have thought the same.... seat tickets were even more expensive. One other 20 something out of her face (with one boob escaping from her top) actually stumbled into our row behind us as we were standing towards the end of the gig and tried to climb over the barrier at the end to get to the toilets... there was a 20 foot drop at the other side. The people in the seats beside us tried to talk to her and stop her, luckily she couldn't physically do it... no sign of a security person to tell.

I won't be going to another concert in the RDS.....

What a shame about tonight. I was really looking forward to it.
At least I got to see him last night, he was brilliant. I was in the pit standing, about 3 feet away from him when he came down the stage.
Hopefully my pictures will come out ok!

Anyone have trouble getting home afterwards last night? I just couldn't get home... wandered Dublin like a fool trying to get a taxi or bus. Gave up at 2am and had to get hubby and child out of bed to come in for me. Not a nice way to end a fantastic evening.

So what was the crowd demographic then? Was it loads of 30 somthings? Couples? I'm surprised to hear that there were so many pissheads there thought you'd have got more sophisticated crowd at his gigs. Didn't know Shane McGowen was a big GM fan :) Also was Sophie Ellis any good?

I had the same tickets, row R, backs against the wall at the very top (perched over the stairs too with no seats in front:eek: ). As you say couldn't see much and certainly very little of the video walls. We were there early 7.15-ish and saw a few people complaining to this guy with headphones. He sat in the row himself for a bit to see the view.

So I trooped down, complained and we got moved down to row F, perfect view, he was doing it for a quite a few people before it got packed - he said he had invalid ticket numbers on a list and was moving people to them. So thanks to that guy.

Although as you said, after paying all that they should've left the top 5 rows empty cos they were useless.

    Hello,

Yes indeed i was at the man himself last night. Not one to normally spin his tunes but it pleased the lady and it wasn't the worst night, quite a good entertainer actually and stage was amazing.

So! I was wondering, last night he had this stage which was i think "in the round". The lady will be at JT and thinks this is the same format. So does anyone know how you get in to the round part close to the stage?

Is it a case that you queue up early and get in like getting into the pit?Or is it a pre-booked thing like some concerts?

IMO you can't beat the days of queueing up outside the ******* for three hours in the pissing rain!

    Snake

It was the most diverse crowd I've ever seen at a gig. There were people in their 60's to teenagers. Some were all glammed up and others dragged together. Big people, skinny people, never seen so many pregnant women in one spot!! Couples, singles, gangs and the now obligatory fur lined stetson brigade.

As far as the re-arranging of the gig I think they will try re-arrange - for PR sake I think ticketmaster have to offer a refund for those who won't be able to make the new date, they seem want people to wait for details of the re-arranged dates before looking for a refund.

Here's ticketmaster's full statement on their website
Due to technical difficulties George Michael has been forced to postpone his performance at the RDS, Dublin on 7 June 2007.

It is with great regret that George has accepted this decision, as the fans in Ireland have given him such wonderful support and incredible receptions during his recent visits. Their singing is something he will never forget.

One of George Michael's trucks had a major crash whilst driving from Bucharest to Prague, resulting in the Prague show having to be cancelled last Saturday.

The very experienced technical crew achieved temporary repairs so the Dublin show on 6 June would go ahead. However, in order not to jeopardise the rest of the tour dates, a measured decision has been taken to postpone the show on Thursday 7 June, in order that full repairs could be completed whilst the equipment is in the UK where it was built, and therefore where all components are available to achieve the re-build.

Therefore, it is planned to replace the show later in the tour, and patrons who have purchased tickets for George's date on the 7 June are asked to please hold on to their tickets until an announcement can be made in regard to a rescheduled date or when details can be given for those people who wish to gain a refund. Anyone who wishes to refund their tickets should return their tickets to point of purchase.

Once again George Michael would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I had a great night last night. I was standing and was very glad i didnt pay such a price for seating! Its looked very cramped and waaay away from the stage!!
Brilliant show, i seen him in December and last night was 10 times better. Any people i seen legless were 30 something women, really made a show of themselves!! its not a concert that you need to get pissed for but whatever floats your boat!!
I left just after 11 to escape traffic and glad i did as id say it was bedlam when everyone got out!!!

you got lucky!! really annoyed, no reason for them to sell those seats at all.;)

If you are going to complain you can quote my story about other people being accomodated. They weren't offering to move anyone but once you asked you got lucky. If you need any more specifics pm me.

'Possible restricted view' didn't even come close to covering it.
