Just wondering if anyone else feels the same? It's not something you can really tell some people, as they'll just think you're a cold hearted b*stard, but their just missing the point completely.

Whiskeyman, How would you react if it was YOUR child that was kidnapped? Would YOU give up after a few weeks? Would YOU not try and get help from evry source possible? What do you think YOUR child would have wanted you to do in those circumstances?

your personalising the situation you should look at it objectively and see that the media coverage and money spent is a waste but im just repeating my self so dont want to get into an argument over it

Anyone catch question time on BBC1 tonight, I kindof came in on the end of it but there was a question about the case and the media, seemed to go along the lines of the pope being dragged into this case and they discussed why the media were obsessing about it, as there where lots of children going missing one of the panelist said a lot of teenagers go missing but because this child was so young it had grabbed the headlines, maybe someone who might have seen the show could give better details about the questions that were asked. Also one member of the audience bought up the fact that the media attention could make the abducter would kill her because it was so high profile.

I have to say that I find some of the comments in this thread very odd indeed. I fully agree withe Whiskeymans comments that the media coverage of this case has been rather unreal. I also have my own opinions as to how I think its being handled in the media, I have my opinions as to whether or not the parents were extremely wrong in how this happened in the first place, and I have my own personal opinions on many different aspects of whats happening with this and how downright odd the whole thing comes across.

However, it really does appear that many people seem to have forgotten that at the base of all of this, there is a child who is probably suffering, or has suffered things we wouldnt wish on our worst enemies.
I am glad this thread is here, as its good to see people who also feel exasperated at the way the media can use such a story to try and sell air time or newspapers, but perhaps we should all take a moment to forget about the media, the hype, the bullsh*t, nay even the parents and spare a thought for the innocent child who had no hand in this whatsoever and is a totally innocent victim.
Every lost child deserves the fullest of resources to try to find them, but we cannot belittle an innocent little girl the way some people have been through this thread because of the way the media is blowing it out of proportion. Yes, attack the way the whole thing is being handled, but please dont sully the memory of a completely innocent child who did not ask for any of this to happen.

Agree fully with Archeron.

Here's my twopence worth...

A person should be able to say when they feel coverage is over the top regardless of what is being covered. This level of saturation in the media reminds me of the tsunami (the fact that you can just call it 'the tsunami' and everyone knows which exact one you're talking about just shows the level of coverage this natural disaster got).

People that hadn't been outside of Europe were hopping on planes to go clear up over there. The mass hysteria about collecting money for it and shipping it over along with the fact that you couldn't turn on the TV without seeing something about it left me utterly dumbfounded....

....then you break the taboo and say "isn't this a bit too much?" and all of a sudden you are a bad person despite the fact that kidnappings, natural disasters and wars claim the lives of babies, children, men and women every day of the week and the people that call you cruel/cold/bad aren't jumping on planes to search/clean up, calling around door to door collecting money or holding fundraisers in those cases.

This is because they can't 'see' it. Because of the level of coverage of both Madeline's story and the tsunami, most of the general public take the stories into their hearts and feel they have to do something...others get frustrated and annoyed....

The fact of the matter is that at the heart of both the tsunami and the Madeline kidnapping are innocent victims who didn't ask for any of it to happen to them. They didn't ask for so much coverage and they should be remembered and respected regardless of how much the media annoys you.

The t-shirts are tasteless and whatever about saying you think there is too much coverage and getting a bad response, I wouldn't imagine you would get too far from your front gate wearing one of those without getting a lot of abuse.

Didnt read anything in the Sun, I dont even buy it. Although given the stories the likes of the Times or Indo have broken over the past few years (Liam Lawlors death anyone?) it hardly makes the other media outlets more relevant. Thank you for simplifying it in words (what were your other options, music or dance?!). Again, I tell you that under current Irish legislation, the McCanns would not be found woefully negligent. You seem to blame me personally for this - so let me burst your bubble. I don't write the law. I am however, ethically bound to my employer, to children and families and to taxpayers, to follow it. Amazingly we agree! Unless there is a break in the case soon, media interest is sure to fade. After that, as you say, there will probably be routine updates every few months. It will be v difficult for the extended and immediate family -another lifeline fading...

i feel very sorry for the family i really do but i cant help feeling that they brought it on themselves!!!who leaves a 4 year old and two 2 year olds in a hotel room on their own!!if they get her back they should be investigated y child authorities cause god knows how many other times they did this!and they're lucky to still have the other kids!!(sorry if someone already said this).

even so i hope she's found!

Why couldnt they just have availed of the babysitting service in the hotel? I read in the paper that there was one available at the resort they were staying. While I hope they do find her I think the media coverage is a bit over the top. Type in her name into bebo/myspace and hundreds upon hundreds of ''find maddie'' videos and websites come up. If I was the parent youd have to feel somewhat ashamed. You dont leave your child in a bedroom alone unsupervised no matter waht the cirumstance you find yourself in, wheather that be 2 m or 2 miles, it dosn't make a diffrence where or when. Its just common sense you don't leave your kids alone!

It completely depends on whether she was kidnapped for profit or for other purposes.Its unlikely she was abducted to be sold and as there's been no ransom demands it would seem likely that she was abducted by an oportunist peadophile.According to FBI specialists,children under 12 who are kidnapped in this way are nearly allways murdered within 24 hours.Disgusting.

Eh? You are getting a bit paranoid, I know full well you have no link to any of this. What I was saying that your view on it is illogical. Exactly what are the measuring bars for being an unfit parent? Most mornings at the back of Pearse Street station there are a substantial amount of junkies hanging around drinking pikey cider and looking for/selling gear. They always have their kids with them. Are they fit parents according to the rulebook? (mind you, unlike the McCanns at least they didnt leave their kids home alone, as bad as they are). Or are they grand as long as they dont physically harm the kid?

As for being ethically bound, arent personal ethics more important than ethics laws laid down by the suits? We have ethical behaviour codes in work too. 98% of it is American cock with no relevance so we generally use our own judgement.

Anyway back on topic, the parents were on the top of a Hello magazine my mother has. Really shows the celebritising of it all. I think Id have more patience for them if they hadnt acted in such a disgraceful, tight fisted manner but Im pretty tired of them by now.

Been following this thread from the start...some great comments made but I thought a few people would be interested in what a local of Luz had to say on the subject:

Sorry about this, but it's time someone said something that the locals of Luz haven't said before for fear of upsetting their neighbours, the McCanns. I know FOR A FACT that the twins and Madeleine were being put to bed and BEING LEFT TO CRY night after night. Neighbours in the apartment block where they were staying heard the children crying "daddy, daddy" for several nights, after the parents went out to dinner at 7.30 and didn't get back home till 12.30 am. The staff in the restaurant will confirm the parents didn't leave the restaurant all night. They weren't checking on the children every half an hour... it's a lie. The local residents and holidaymakers in the apartments were aware that the children were left alone every evening, so it was an open invitation for someone with intent to do something to a child. The police should be looking for someone who either lives, works, or was on holiday, in the very near vicinity. Maybe that person had a hire car, took Maddie away in that, then dropped her out, returned the hire car and flew home the next day. I don't believe she has been sold. Nor do I believe the "paedophile ring" story. I believe she's still in the Algarve... probably not far from Luz. Most residents here think the same. This was a crime committed by someone nearby who heard her crying and took the opportunity. Did the police check the lixo bins, (those big green rubbish skips in every road) or the place where the rubbish goes when the bins are emptied? Sorry to say it, but people dump dogs, cats, chickens, even sheep in those. So why not a child?
My heart bleeds for the McCanns, but more so for little Maddy, who was failed by the people she loved. I hope and pray that she gets found.

Indeed, but why would you bother to make it up. Having said that there are a few headcases out there.

Just to add my two cents, here is something very odd about all this. The military precision with which the campaign is being run, the website with the daily routine blog etc. the amount of money rolling in....something stinks and I cannot put my finger on it....

Milly Dowlers parents didn't go through all this and she was missing for months before they found a body.
