Why can't they get Glenda Gilson into one of the thongs, team her up with George Hook wearing the BBQ Apron and have them hand out pamphlets

My comment was meant to be patronising. Someone who thinks its a good idea to make t shirts ... well deserves to be patronised.

Also, I'd have thought it was pretty obvious than the McCann family are exploiting the media to an extent, so as to keep the story alive. Some media coverage is OTT but most of that is on Sky news. I watch RTE news and can't say its incessant coverage. If you're complaining about news coverage on a 24 HOUR ENGLISH news nation, i'd adivse you to get out more. Or swtich to CNN or BBC news 24.

Shame on me!! I am a law abiding social worker who doesn't beat people with a giant morality stick when they leave their children overnight with.... relatives!! Shock, horror, what have I become?!!!!!!

Trust me, Gopher dear, that comment coming from you, is a compliment!

are you talking about what happened this girl or someone else?

But listening to the news this morning, the quote from her father was very odd. Surely, the search for their daughter should be first in their mind ??????

Come on, it is hardly fair to pick apart every comment a parent makes (or any person at a time of crisis or loss). I thought in the meeting with the pope, the father looked positively ashen and I certainly haven't seen one ounce of coverage to suggest that Kate and Gerry are anything other than heartbroken. I've seen people say the weirdest and sometimes the most inappropriate things in crisis. The father's comment was one taken out of a whole conversation and I don't think it was even all that weird.

Of course, according the TheGopher, I've no common sense :)

Read back through the last few pages - TheGopher responded to my post about the McCanns leaving the younger children with relatives while they went to Rome, hence my reply to him. We have already thrashed out what we both think about the McCanns leaving Madeleine alone, over and over and over...

I'm not trying to make this thread a pro-maddie thread you Stevie C and crazy Christ are just ripping the piss and took it over the line, I've pointed out the parents are wrong for what they did and that the media mainly Sky news have gone overboard on the coverage, but your line of humour has crossed the line. If your such the big man you wear the T-shirt and see how far you get without getting a slap from someone, probably your mammy :). And don't get all politically correct like you care if its some african child was taking instead.

thats a good point thebaz. This thread would have been closed long ago if the vitriol had been directed at an ethnic group. That t - shirt is distasteful but not really surprising. Bless him, StephenC_IRL probably doesn't know any better.

What started out as perhaps a valid point regards media coverage has turned into people posting just for shock value. I have to say media coverage pales into comparison with "i said something controversal, look at me" comments.

I agree totally, Sky and a couple of UK daily's have gone over the top, but thats there perogative , they are British after all -- we don't have to watch British tv or read British daily's -- we have freedom of choice --

Sky's most popular downloads , are still McCann related, so i guess they are only giving there public what they want.

What bugs me here, is that some of the mature posters have more hatred for the McCann parents, than the actual abductors or paedos .

And i wonder would that brave man wear that t-shirt out, and flaunt his bravery on the real streets of Dublin or England -- somehow i doubt it.

I'm one of the few who've read the full thread here , and I don't remember any words of hatred towards the parents?! maybe criticism is the word you're looking for? As for the 'abductors or paedos' , i think most will agree that it needs to go unsaid and everybody has the same view on a person/persons who would commit such a crime.

Maybe his PR advisors should brief him better before speaking to the media, because no matter what you say , the 'crisis or loss' should come ahead of themselves, and a comment like the one below seems very strange to me....
This is a big day for us .............. <GAP> ........ and also for the search for Madeline

Does there visit to the pope remind anyone of the sketch in Little Britain (I think) where the parents are using their childs illness to meet all their idols?

Do you happen to know the name of the characters? Would be interesting to watch again. I kinda remember seeing it somewhere alright (had to be Little Britain - no one else would dare)

Ok so its one thing to make fun of a missing child, but to actually go out and tear down posters? What kind of person are you?
If I had a child go missing, the trauma of imagining what kind of abuse and torture she’s going through would be traumatic enough without little morons like you being a cruel bastard about it.
Except if my child was like you, then I’d be glad to see you gone, cos I’d be ashamed to have such a heartless son!

you yourself have been on a moral crusade against the parents , its a long thread , but here is a sample of whats been written (not by you )

"I can't believe the media haven't been slating the parents for being two bloody morons. That, I would watch. "

Why not stop buying the News of thw World , and stop watching Sky News , get a life and stop moaning about the parents.

FYI -- the media are actually leaving Portugal, eventually.

Sigh. Examples of hatred for the parents please.

Besides I wouldn't say I was on a crusade against anyone. I was simply pointing out the poor parenting.

In fairness, show me one parent here that wouldn't be following in the McCanns footsteps where their child kidnapped? Sure they made a mistake and left their child on their own. But show me one person here who has no memories of their parents making a mistake.

Oh, and all this animosity towards the McCanns going to Rome is ridiculous. They are devout Catholics, so to them the highest power is God, next in line is the Pope. If the McCanns had taken a private jet to France to meet with the head of Interpol we'd be singing a different tune altogether about their priorities. Yet they head to Rome to plead with the pope to ask God to save their child and suddenly they are selfish, media whoring bad parents who are using their situation to meet celebrities.

Just because you may have the personal belief that God can't help them, doesn't mean they don't.

An interesting article about how the media coverage of this sad story is dying down. According to Sky News anyway.

A friend of mine was talking about an interview she saw of a known peadophile (with his face blacked out) and when the question was asked "What can parents do to prevent their children being snatched?" He replied along the lines of - the only way to prevent a paedophile from taking your child is to chain yourself to the child.

tbh i hope she is dead coz it is not worth imagining what she would have been put threw the last 3 weeks if she was alive

also i believe as soon as the media blew it up so much she was dead straight away as she became "useless" to the kidnappers with such a public face

sigh -- what make you the expert in good parenting conduct -- particluarly on a family you don't know -- anyway a bit like the media coverage, i don't want to open old wounds, but maybe you should be carefull with your puritanical swipes at parents who made a mistake -- and admitted it -- and suffered dire consequences as a result of this mistake-- mistakes happen in life ... sigh
