That add could not be broadcast on the tv or radio as it would be in breach of the 1960 and 1980 boradcasting acts as it is politcal and religous
and it would not be permitted as a poster campagain the same way concerns gender one was considered politcal and the ispcc campagain about ratifing the UN charter on the child were considered poltical and removed from public sight.

It is in the loophole of cinema adds which are promoted and sold as add by advertising agencies into the cinema but are legally short films to a private audience of a certain age range.

    Which is an inconsistancy.

Yes - since I prefer a balanced view - that is why I never have a problem with the Options ad - since its always implied that there is always a choice.

These pro-life ad are very black and white in their message

With all due respect, somebody paid for the ad and it was shown. Do you expect the ad agency to generate an ad for the competitor at their own expense? What next, an ad for Coke must be balanced by an ad for Pepsi?
It's just an ad, you don't have to buy the message/product.

Where's sense of proportion gone in this world

I didn't see the ad so I can't comment on whether it was religious or not, but you cannot proscribe something for being political - all life is political

I think my problem here would be that I wouldn't have a choice but to see the ad, at home I can switch the channel in the cinema I can't switch screens to see if there are better ads on elsewhere, so if I'm a captive audience I would resent the fact that I am forced to listen to someone elses opinion, and I would have the same problem if I was forced to watch a party political braodcast before I could enjoy the movie I have paid good money to see !

You could get up and walk out if you feel that strongly about it

Absolutely - however last night as I was thinking about whether to have cheese or not - the options ad came on and the first line of it included the words "non-judgmental". So whats to say that the people behind options would never say "why not keep the baby"? At the end of the day while there is always options, and there are - its is down to personal choice (in most cases).

I agree with you, and personally I'd agree with you also Tauren, I was just making the point that to some people the Options ad is "bad". :)

I have seen the add and I have taken the time to read the site of the group who paid for it and to do some research on them.

It is a religious add, funded by a religious group.

I shouldn't have to feel that I had to walk out, also do you think if I did I would get a refund ? Doubtful, I pay a lot of money to go to the cinema and should be able to enjoy the experience without being forcefed someone elses ideology !

I agree completely! I was merely observing the fact that you have an alternative :)

Indeed to quote lord vetinari (Terry Pratchett) "There's always a choice" even if that choice is to say no and walk out the door with no stairs behind it :)

I for one am going to boycott the product and/or service by not not having an abortion.

If this is the genaration that finds things like this to be so odious and compels them to (possibly not enjoy a very bad movie) take time to even consider complaining, what are we in for in the comming years. How long is it going to be before we legally have to wrap ourselves in cotton wool before leaving our homes and be fined for sneezing at the wheel of our motor vehicles. Thankfully I'll only have to put up with it for another 50/60 years max... and Thank god for that..... Oh sorry I mentioned the G** word

and Winters, I'm surprised at you ;)

an anti-abortion ad that specifically targets kids is wrong.

There shouldnt be ads in the first place. You pay e8 in and you should get to see the film ad free. Best bet is to just download the film as a protest.

If I pay to see a movie I expect to be entertained and to get a certain service ! If I don't get that I feel perfectly entitled to complain ! I do not as previously stated expect to have someone elses opinions (outside the directors / scriptwriters ;) ) forced upon me, If it was on T.V. / Radio I wouldn't have a problem with it as I can choose to change channel, in a cinema that is not an option, you don't seem to be getting this point !

Was at Spidey 3 yesterday - when a very pro-life ad came on, and it wasnt very balanced, like the options ad. It pretty much said anything else other then life is wrong - atleast that was the implication that I got.

Didnt get a chance to complain - but I intend too.

That said - would other people complain about advertisments at the cinema or just let sleeping dogs lie?

im more offended by the pictures of dead babys the pro-choice crowd go waving about in the streets claiming they are dead fetuses. my cousin had nightmares for weeks because of them.

Dont see any problem with having a Pro-Life ad running but it seems silly having it on before Spiderman 3 of all things

Apparently eating a dead foetus is good for the skin.

Indeed. That would probably be the worst pro-choice advert ever.

    "Here, have one of these."

I wasn't really replying directly to you, I was commenting on this more common culture of complaining at every little thing. Besides we have been having ad screenings in cinemas since I remember going, someone telling me that I should be wearing nikes, eating McDonalds or driving a volkswagon. Wether you agree with the ad or not your still waiting 30 additional seconds to watch an ad on pro-life or one of some woman lying in a boat on a river eating flake.

Then again the ad served its purpose completely, it grabbed your attention, it provoked you to do something which is the intent of any advertisement.

And who really cares? It is not 1954, people today generally don't disagree with abortion because the Pope says its wrong. As said yet again, the sooner people calm down about the Angelus, the minimal religious teahcing in school, the yadda yadda *insert "theyve got more hold over Ireland than the Taliban had in Afghanistan" opinion here* the better. Im almost starting to think that some people on boards grew up and later escaped from some dark corner of the far west where the local pastimes included burning protestants at the stake and throwing rotten veg at a weekly parade of unmarried mothers.

I know, I hate those. I had a miscarriage a few weeks ago, and whenever I see a picture of a fetus at the moment it upsets me. Last thing you want to see when you're walking down Grafton Street is a big picture shoved in your face. Also saw the ad in question when I went for some escapism to the cinema. Also Spiderman 3! It did annoy me tbh, but probably because I'm sensitive about the whole baby thing at the moment. Wouldn't have wanted to see a pro choice ad either. I'd like to complain about most ads. Wish they'd just stick to showing promos of future films rather than try to sell me everything and anything!

Sheesh. If you don't want opinions forced on you then don't read newspapers, magazines, leaflets, watch ads, listen to the radio or the news. In other words arrive at the theatre after the ads have finished. Even then half the time these days movies have product placement anyway.
