Officially he left because he didn't want a long term commitment to the show and the writers agreed to write him out after a year. I have to say that i'd be pretty pissed off if the Other's were in control of the Black Smoke. Its still one of the big mysteries, and if it turns out that some guy is sitting as a computer, using his ps2 joypad to kill anyone (bar Locke) that it comes in contact with, then that will drive away fans in droves.

As for the picture...if its an error, big deal. Its only a different jumper. If it is the time paradox thing, then thats cool too.

Nah i think it is safe to say that the smoke is not being controlled by the others. It may be the result of some experiement. The fence is there to keep it out. No one would build a fence like that if they controlled the one thing that the fence was there to keep out.
