anyone ever the see the episode of south park that was about racism? The flag of south park had a black person (or 2, cant remember) bein hung while white folk were lookin. Chef interpreted as racist but the kids didnt and he was thick with them. The reason they didnt think it was racist because they werent lookin at skin colour. It was a good episode and summed up media interpretation of racism

They had another one too where Cartman hits Token in the head with a rock, and has to go to prison because it was deemed a Hate Crime,

so Stan, Kyle, Token (and maybe Kenny?), give a presentation to the Governor called 'Hate Crime Laws: A Savage Hypocrisy' saying that hate crime laws just create more division. It was great.

-"I'd really like to see you kids go down there and give that Governor a piece of my mind."
    -"Why don't you do it?"
-"Oh he wouldn't listen to me"
    -"Why not?"
    -"Because I'm black"

I think she kind of does, I mean she's not got a very nice face at all, if you've seen her IRL you will agree. I think it's her jaw or sth that makes her face look a bit ugly.
Absolutely - she totally looks like a monkey - I've always thought that!

She lived in Crumlin for a good few years (southside) - she was a neighbour of my uncles, but don't know where she was born?

Yes, was in a cafe this morning and this was on page 2 of the papers. What is wrong with the media these days?

Very unfortunate - in the sense that anything that gives publicity to this hideously untalented and grotesque charlatan is bad.

Hopefully few will take notice of your anal utterings. Tell me why not be more useful and clean up your local area!

Racism makes big headlines. That's what's wrong.

It's like the whole thing with the Galwayfirst article about "African cabbies facing racism" when the reality was more along the lines of the african cabbies ripping people off, and generally not knowing where they're going, hence people not wanting to get another cab driven by an african. Had a discussion about it here.

Yes. I really see worry in this because what would columnists jump on the racist tag so fast and freely for? What possible merits does that behold, bar paper sales (I think I've answered my question)? Complete fear mongering..

If, for instance I was to say that Robert Mugabe looked like an ape, I would be called all the racist names under the sun. On the other hand if I were to say Bertie Ahern looked like a chimp no one would take a blind bit of notice. Why? I wonder.

There are those who are too quick to jump on the racism bandwagon and call 'racist' where they really shouldn't, and then there are those who are too quick to jump on the racism-denial bandwagon, and hotly affirm their right to say a certain black person looks like a monkey. Monkey is a common enough racist call, I'm sure most people are aware of it, and this woman really shouldn't have used it.
It's not as bad as Ashley Cole and SWP getting subjected to monkey chants playing for England a few years back, but it was definitely in bad taste.

Oh it was certainly racist, no argument from me there.

But what I'm more concerned about is the fact that 'Racism' seems to have been elevated to crime of the century, and being a murder, or a rapist, or even a paedophile. Someone goes out and kills someone, and it's barely fit for news, but if someone makes a derogatory about someone of another race, then the media is out baying for their blood.

I think in this case, miss Scotland's career is over. She'll never play this down, and she's probably never work again as a model, or on TV or such.

At the end of the day, all she really did was call someone a derogatory name. Nobody got hurt or anything, and anyone who hasn't been living in isolation has been called plenty of unsavoury things over the course of their life, and I'm sure that most people can take it on the chin. But because it was something said about a black person, the media puts on this mythic mantle of "Racism" that makes it the most horrible thing in the world.

Oh yeah no argument there, racism has become a full stop. It's like "anti-semitic" or "terrorist", no reasonable person defends such behaviour, so it became as easy 'crutch' for some people who perceive themselves to be disadvantaged.

It's inevitable that the media will catch hold of that and abuse it too, unfortunately their income is in hype. They love a story like this

Its utter tosh to call poor Samantha Mumba a monkey. Its blindly obvious that its an ape she looks like. People assume that monkeys and apes are the same but these people are fools.
    Thank you!

I have to remind people of this about 5 or 6 times a day.

As for Mumba... if she looked like a monkey I'd have posters of her on my bedroom wall.... I don't... I have posters of Kim Hunter.

She wasn't an Ape though, so I think Monkeyfudge wouldn't care for her.

Yeah get with the program victor

Why would a monkey(fudge) care for an ape? Would a human get jiggy with an elephant?
