The West Wing - brilliant and could have continued after Martin Sheen.

It could have but it probably shouldn't. It was about the Bartlet White House and it had a couple of shaky seasons but they managed to pull it out for the last season. Without Jed, Leo, Toby and CJ married of and a conclusion to the whole Josh/Donna thing they were right to finish it.

After reading the posts how did I ever forget about:
    American Gothic
    Nowhere Man

I'll add Earth 2, it used to be on Sky1, not the best sci-fi series ever but better than some rubbish in TV land and a cool concept of re-settling on an alien planet.

Boston Legal was almost binned but saved by popular demand.

what he said!. only 'replacement' character i could ever see slotting into the new administration was John 'Frasiers Dad' Mahoney; they could nearly have put him in Leos shoes. However, too much else would have changed, and fact is, the show just may have been running out of steam. Obviously we're fans and would have tolerated almost anything (within reason) but the rest of the world might have just buckled...

    Third Watch and NYPD Blue.

Don't tell me any reason why NYPD blue should have been cancelled because I am still watching season 11 on both more4 and Rte 1.

NYPD Blue went for 12 series thats amazing and at least it maintained its quality.

If Boston Legal is ever cancelled, I might very well cry, it's the daddy. Comedy gold IMHO.

Another vote for Arrested Development. That was such a good show. Most comedies will provoke mild laughter but this one constantly had me laughing so hard it hurt...
Also Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared - where can I buy these?

Most other TV shows I miss weren´t actually cancelled, just no more made. Like Spaced/Black Books.

Oh, and Grosse Pointe was good cheesy fun...

Don´t think the OC will be on this list. It was good fun at the start but I stopped watching some time last year.

Bought myself the region 1 boxset of Freaks and Geeks recently. Well worth the investment. All the talent behind the show were clearly destined for bigger things! Everyone should have a copy of this on DVD.

I'd like to add The Pitts to the list. Commonly mistaken for the worst TV series ever, I thought it was great! So unbelievably ridiculous!

    Arrested Development.
    First wave.
    Freaks and geeks.
    Lexx.
    SG1.
Enterprise (I liked it. It had potential to do more, but what are you gonna do?).
all i can think of right now. I'm sure there are more though.

oh yeah, DS9 had not run its course. f*ck picard vs kirk. Sisko kicked ass.

    Glenroe

Who can remember the outrage caused by Miley and Fidelma's romp in the haybarn? Innocent times.

Space above and beyond after all the crap sci fi that came after you gotta say it should never have been cancelled.

Enterprise for me was starting to take decent shape

Andromeda as well a show that lost out from company closure

What About Brian is likeley to be cancelled after season 2 as it has had its episode order reduced. That is a great show.
