    Boards found me! :)

Googling IBB faults landed me on the broadband forum. The rest is history.

i used to read the Usenet news groups (through Google), there was a board for computer problems there, and i used to try and help the guys out

then i found the Irish newsgroups and realized i could help Irish people with their computer problems instead, i just preferred to try to help out Irish people

one day a guy posted about his problem and said "the lads on boards.ie weren't able to help him either", so i was delighted to find yet another place where the helpful computer geeks needed a hand,

wasn't long before i realized that i could find out stuff from experts in other areas (like the mustard forum), so I gave up on Usenet pretty soon after

I was looking up porn on the internet and oddly enough found myself on boards.

I was looking up phones and found a thread from boards with my details on it, saying 'this guy emailed me to recommend this guy to me, and he turned out to be a scammer'. Me being the recommender in innocence, not the scammer!

Was a bit surprised, but then joined up after flicking through the website.

I moved to England at the end of 2004, by early 2006, I had started a new job and had time to reflect on how much I really missed the Irish perspective on life in general.

So I searched Google for Irish forums. I found one or two Irish emigrant forums but that wasn't what I wanted...then I discovered boards.ie. Now I'm talkin' :D

I discovered Boards by being very nosey and reading over the shoulder of some ex work colleagues a few years ago (who I have since seen at Boards Beers). I browsed for a couple of weeks to see what all the fuss was about then eventually signed up. I think at one stage pretty much everyone in my work place was posting here :)

I started working with a Hosting company, and on my first day my boss showed me boards, and all the threads discussing him, and his company, and asked me to monitor and respond where necessary.

I ended up dossing on boards for hours on end and he could never really say anything as he had told me to 'frequent' the site in the first place.

Somebody on another small forum years ago said, "I just found this place boards.ie! You should join up now to make sure you get your username there because it's going to be huge!". So I joined and got my username. I more or less lurked, only posting the occassional thread, until I started uni in Sept 05 and found myself with broadband in my room and far too much time on my hands!

ha ha! I found out bout someone bitchin bout me on it 2 or 3 years ago... thought it was the nerdiest thing ever. I was never into goin onto sites like this (and Im a computer programmer!), but when there is nothing to in work whats the harm! Was a crappy and not so plesant way to discover boards, but it makes the clock go that extra bit faster so Im not complainin, especiall the Soccer section.

I was in my third year at CTYI when Raphael gave me the address for the boards CTYI forum. It wasn't till a year later that I went to it and joined. It was another few months before I ventured out into the other forums.

A moderator told me to do it, as I not shy about telling idiots they are idiots. Supposedly.
