in the place i work, you get a wide range of people,, from the normal joe soap on
the street, to the buissness man with his goldcard. you also get a lot of office parties,, especially at christmas. running tabs and what not.

ive got a 10e tip from a 22-25 year old "undesirable" who bough two drinks, and the businessman who ran up a tab over over 1500e and tipped nothing. i also had a buch of americans in one day who had a tab of over 400e and not only did they not tip, they left me short of 6e.

at the end of the day, "real" people are more inclined to tip, because they know the value of money more than the guy who earns 200k p/a

    here is a question:

How come the person who brings over a tray of drinks weighing less than 5 kilos should expect a tip whereas, a person who lifts a 32 inch television to a customers car weighing over 200 kilos is given nothing???

I don't think it is fair to ask the customer to pay the bar staff or floor staff money to do their job. In fact not many jobs get a tip,

i think it was mr pink who said why should he tip a waitress who works in a resteraunt or a cafe when you dont feel compelled to tip the girl in burgerking?

i dont know,, i tip almost everybody who "serves" me something, then again. if you dont tip, no harm done.

not attacking you TD but last time I was in NYC, the tipping culture is so aggressive (ignored in one bar because the tip wasn't high enough, doorman saying "oh a dollar, how nice" sarcastically) that you usually do tip for a quiet life.

It is not so much that, but that the person is already getting crap wages and they have to pay taxes on the tips they get at 15%. So crap tips means they get screwed.

It can be a win situation for the person getting the tips if they are good at their job. But tbh I don't like this whole tip culture. Your already paid to do a job, why should I give more money to get you to something you should be doing already?

In the US they would expect a tip.

The customer might pay "a bit more" overall.

Am I the only one who noticed this line in the OP's quote? I don't care if the drinks are going to be reduced in price if I tip more if I might pay "a bit more" overall. How is that any incentive for me to tip? How crazy is the world? (no, don't answer that).

I'm sorry but I don't care what country I am in, I will NOT tip for good service. I expect good service. I will however tip for exceptional service. I do not tip for someone doing their job. If you don't like the job you have then get a new one. And don't give me bull**** about some people only being able to do the jobs that they do. If someone, for whatever reason, can only be a waitperson then they can do that job to the best of their ability and then I will tip them.

And I refuse to tip waitstaff so that a pub can lower their paid wages by a lot, the drink prices for a bit and so that I still end up paying "a bit more" at the end of the evening.

    The end.
