    And a 120GB HDD apparently :(

I don't care about the HDMI, but the bigger HDD would have been nice. I suddenly have buyers remorse for the 360 I got at Christmas :(

I know hdmi and the bigger hard disk are needed.

But I spent alot of money a few months ago for this ****ing thing.

Although, seeing as 360's have the reliability record of Rovers, my 360 will probably kick the bucket 2 days after the guarantee expires.

    Xbox 360 Premium - €420
    Wireless thingy - €80
    HD-Dvd drive - €200
    _______________________
    €700

If they release a mark 2 with all of that onboard, alot of people are going to go stark raving mad!

And watch sales of the hd-dvd plummet until they clarify whether or not V2 has hd-dvd on board.

wonder how much it'll cost (this is probably a way to keep it at €409...). it could segregate the 360 community a bit more. already you have those with/without hard-drives and those with/without xbl...

Will this ship with a built in HD-DVD drive as well?

How will it segregate them even more? Its not like there will be anything you can only do with HDMI or 120gb HDD.

I think the big question is whether or not there'll be an upgrade path to the bigger hard drive.

ie. some way of transferring everthing you have on your 20gb hard drive to the new drive.

Wouldn't affect me tbh, might consider upgrading the HDD depending. I just wish they had made the HDD standard from the start.

Potential reaction could be volatile though.

Having bought my 360 only last week... this pisses me off. I don't care much about HDMI (using VGA here), but the 120GB disk would have been great to have.

Im just wondering if it is real would the HDMI no be on the Av lead.?.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

Nope you have to have a standard HDMI port, I'm pretty sure its part of the license.

I don't think you can have anything other than 'real' hdmi.... It's a fiercely protected technical standard. If MS tried to market something as HDMI that didn't cut that technical standard there'd be a monkey **** fight of epic proportions!

If in fact this is real (which I doubt) I'd wait until MS announce it officially. Either way the 360 (mk1) is not going to stop working .

Does anyone remember how many hardware revisions of the original Xbox there was ? I think it was a good few. Why should the 360 be any different.

All I have to say to people that have the machine at the moment is be happy with what you have and stop complaining.

Yes the original xbox had 7+ versions

No did any of these versions come with additional features that would make the console better.

Anyway, who cares. Unless the upgrade is a REAL upgrade ie. built in wifi/120gb/hdmi/optical out/hybrid dvd/cd/hddvd drive

then it's a waste of money.

is VGA much better than composite?

Think its sharper but the component gives better colours...

I take it u meant component n not composite, composite is for the SD, not HD..

Hardly a suprise.... but I won't be upgrading. Can't be bothered buying a 1080P TV, and I use the optical jack for sound.

Nice one MS.......they managed to get over the busy and profitable Christmas season without this being leaked.......classic industry management.
Cost is obviously going to come into this, and it'll be hard to know whether or not they'll chuck in the HD-DVD.
Seeing as how the drive would only be used for HD-DVD films, as oppposed to the PS3 using the BD for all media, I don't think they'll include it straight away or offer it as a higher priced premium pack.
Splitting the 360 community right now could be a very big mistake on Microsoft's part and it would just show the general public that they are mimicking Sony.
If they release it as a 2nd rev 360 without the HD-DVD, they may get away with it (although there will be a lot of people up in arms on these forums :D)

Dunno, I have it hooked up to an LCD monitor. I've never actually connected my 360 to a TV :)

If you did mean composite, then yes.

    To be honest,
I remember seeing a similar picture before the 360 was released......another leaked picture that time as well. Can't be certain if it was this exact picture back then, but I do remember noticing a rather unique av connection..
If true it would make sense for MS to announce it at next week's CES, and aim to have it in the shops in either March or September..

TBH, I'd be happy with another 360 as long as it was silent, more important too me than a bigger HDD or Wifi etc..etc..

Well other sites r saying that it'll be 6-7 months by the time they have the new cpu on 65nm...

Because of yield issues and production constraints..
Probably why Sept would be be a more likely release, if at all. PS3 (with its properly developed media capabilities) will probably be in homes by then, unless Sony drop the ball and fumble until Sept..

So do I, so do I...... hmmmm *strokes beard*

Once you can get the 120GB HD seperate thats all i need.

This grinds my gears alright, not impressed, I want HDMI, should have had it from the start!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

It probably wont have built in HD DVD going by this.http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/05/microsoft-hd-dvd-might-be-next-betamax-switch-to-blu-ray-sti/
The Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive would likely never be internalized into a future version because "[we] don't want to charge customers $200 extra for something that may be the next Betamax." Microsoft Director of Platform Strategy Scott Henson said.

Aren't you forgetting something? This is Microsoft we're talking about! They've never shipped on time in their lives....

My guess is that it'll be at least 12 months before this puppy ships.

    At least.
