Well the last episode of BSG of 2006 is upon us and what a way to end the year. Barring the pain in the hole Lee/Starbuck drama, this was a solid episode that opened up lots of can's of worm's for the second half of the season.

Sharon finds out her kids alive and the prez screwed her over big time so she better hope Santa gives her a bullet proof vest for xmas.

Adama's playing hardball bigtime and there aint nothing harder than nukes!

Baltar was fantastic as always but poor Six looked so hurt I think his 3 ways are over for 2007

Oh yes, I liked this episode. Great to see Leoben and Cavil back.

Again, some great symmetry here - The Temple of 5 and The Final 5 Cylons. Obviously not a co-incidence

The smirk on Tighs face at the end when Adama ordered the nukes be fired was priceless

And have to agree with sentiments in previous threads - Xenlon is getting more and more delicious as time goes by

I didn't like the cliffhanger, it didn't have the tension of Pegasus (although they did use Prelude to War for the music, again). One bit that did impress me was the proceedures to launch the nukes. It was more impressive than, "fire photon torpedos."

Although Galactica had three nukes at last count, where did they get six+ from? Not Pegasus, surely.

Good Episode, fairly solid with the exception of the Lee/Starbuck love crap which is getting old tbh.

But for god sake why the break, I hate mid season breaks, first Lost now BSG !!!!!

The wait till the next episode sucks ass seeing as its a 2 parter but at least the wait is only a month and not the lame 6 month gaps that Stargate has between seasons.

Pegasus would be the most logical answer. It was in the middle of a re-fit / re-arm during the Attack on the Colonies.

Alternatively, Adama could be just launching the rockets without nuke payloads. The payload could be something else (he asked Gaeta to load some codeword-type payload) that happens to be radioactive...

Discuss.

/EDIT: Ahh, its just clicked with me. I think it was on the extended cut version of "Pegasus" on the seaon 2 DVD, there's a new scene where its mentioned that more armaments are transferred to Galactica, and that may have included nukes I guess.

Please clarify for me: Did Adama actually not know that the baby had lived after childbirth? I thought he was in on the decision to pretend it had died and hide the baby in the fleet?

Yeah, that confused me too - I had thought Adama was in on it.

While the Colonials and Cylons think the Eye of Jupiter is an artefact, it seems a bit more obvious that it's a celestial event i.e. a supernova, and it'll happen in such a way that a signpost will get lit-up in the temple, perhaps?

Also, check out the Eye of Jupiter mural in Starbuck's apartment...

I'm almost 100% sure he did know.
A very average episode overall.
Adama has become a shadow of himself,his lines are now corny and his actions illogical .
This whole Cylons popping up everywhere the Colonials are is getting tiresome and predictable.
The Lee-Starbuck affair is woeful and should be dropped.
I dont care for either of these 2 characters enough.
The whole Baltar ,number 3 plot is silly and I miss his talks with number 6 .
The show has deteriorated alot since the start of series 3 and it must get back on track or it will be axed as the ratings are dropping steadily.
I used to love watching a new episode of BSG,I'd be all excited.
Now I dont have the same interest.
The menace of the Cylons is gone ,the time jumps in the episodes is weakening the show and most importantly it seems like the writers are trying to fit a story arc into each episode,i.e wrap it up in 40 mins.

I think he did know, but he thought the child would be given away anonomously, and that Laura wouldn't have any contact with it. The fact that she kept it close to her at the school means that she could have compromised its secret identity, and thats what Adama is annoyed about, that she didn't tell him that the baby was being kept under her watch.

They are good episodes, but I'd agree that they don't have as much excitement in them because there hasn't been much viper-action. But, I'm hoping they'll pick it up for the second halfof season 3, and the cliffhanger was pretty good.

That would make perfect sense, excellent theory.

I liked this episode a lot, it wasn't the usual shoot and run encounter and opened up a new dynamic in the human-cylon plot.

Very good episode, though the whole lee/dualla/kara/anders thing is kinda starting to grate just a wee bit.

Still worth it for the whole "Getting ready to nuke the planet" bit.

good episode. but i agree the love story thing with lee,anders,dee and starbuck is boring me. have you seen the teaser for the next episode? we get a cool cliffhanger in this ep with the teaser is about the love quadrangle...:D :rolleyes:

Really felt this episode reminded me of the Count Ibly ep from the original series. I was waiting for the spots in the sky.

Cant wait to see what Athena is going to do about Hera

The love connection crap is grating as everyone has said.

Poor Baltar only having one cylon this christmas.

Feels to me that they're still recovering from the events at the start of the season, insofar as the writers have been left without a clear plot to follow. Maybe they squeezed a bit too much into the first couple of year, definitely noticing an increase in 40-minute story-arcs. Although all that could just be down to the mid-season slump.

Lack of excitement and wonder aside, I still enjoyed it thoroughly. Need I say that Baltar was great? Teigh was fantastic in this episode too, it is good to have him back by Adama's side. And Dean Stockbot - excellent character.

Storywise it was interesting enough but just a damned cliffhanger really.. going to have to wait until next year to find out what's going on, and I don't like speculating.

...and I must be just a big softy at heart, because I don't really mind the love quadrangle business. You sort of have to have it a show like this and I'm actually interested to see how they handle it (Starbuck definitely has some conflicting religion issues).

The trailer for the rest of the season pretty much diffuses any wonder about the two cliffhangers (Starbuck's fate and whether or not Adama will nuke the planet)

I don't mind it either, it gives the show yet another interesting dimension, rather than being all about nuking stuff and killing cylons.

I don't know why everyone is getting the hump about Starbuck & Apollo's love triangle. It only became apparant in the last two episodes previous to this that there was a bit of fraggin going on.

If it were up to me I would take Dee any day of the week. You just know starbuck is a closet lesbian. Tank her up with booze and she'd probably ride a sheep..or at least a virtual sheep or whatever. Dee is the best looking lady on BSG imo.

Did the episode seem too rushed to anyone else? It's part of the one big, big criticism that I have for BSG, they have these really dreary stand alone episodes like Skar/Blackmarket in S2 and the previous three this year which would be forgivable if they needed these episodes to stretch the story to 22 episodes. But when they do the big stories they are often rushing to fit too much in.

This year we got "the Tigh episode," "the Lee&Kara episode" and for some reason "the Kat episode." If the could have found a way to pull off the character development for the three major characters, kill off Kat and the events of the last ep over the course of four interlocking episodes while steadily advancing the arc it would have been amazing. Instead we got three episodes of 50:50; good:crap and one rushed finale.

That said parts of the episode were pure gold. I absolutely loved Baltar's "Laura?" And Athena and Boomer's confrontation. I miss Boomer and would like to see a little more of her.

I dont like these time jumps and scene jumps either,its hurting the show.

One of the things I used to love about BSG was how slowly it went. 33 was literally days after the event of the pilot. And the presidential election was held 7 months after the events of Bastille Day so most of the first two series took place in about 8 months, and by then there had already been a jump forward by a month in The Capitan's Hand.

Part of the reason that this was so good was that it meant that everything that happened in an episode had consequences. Such as when Starbuck broke her leg in Act of Contrition it remained broken for 6 episodes. It gave the show a real sense of urgency and it made you really feel as if you were along for the ride.

Not trying to over analyse here but:

If the cylons could jam communications then why didn't they do it in all the battles and then there would be no communications between vipers and between vipers and galactica?? The war would have been over ages ago.

How many nukes does it take to wipe out a temple? 1 should do it i'd imagine.

How many nukes does it take to wipe out a planet? Alot more that 8!

How did the cylons know a target package was been loaded into the weapons?

Why didn't Adama just intercept the raiders?

Other than that it was a good episode. Lee and Starbuck love affair is becoming tiresome alright!!!

Still can't wait for second half of the season though!!

I'd wager at least one of the nukes is pointed at the star about to go Super-Nova; that'd take care of the whole planet.

If Star Trek Generations has taught Ronald D. Moore anything, it's that if one of Adama's 'special payloads' contains a trilithium core, then there should be no problem taking out the star
