Just heard today that the second man involved in the incident was recently sacked from a top retail store in the area for constantly showing up drunk. The info is 100% reliable as he is a former colleague of my mother.

The guy was in his 40's.

What I heard was he got thrown out of the local pub earlier in the evening.

    It wasn't murder though...

Does anyone know exactly what happened? My younger brother knew her an from what he's been told the girl and a few mates were out (he heard it was a green), two guys got out of a car and tried draggin her back into the car. One of her friends, a guy, pulled her back, and put himself in between the guys and her. One of the guys grabbed a baseball bat outta the car, came back an took a swing at her friend, he ducked, and she got cracked in the head.

Now whether this is complete waffle, or slight exaguration I don't know, but either way he's pretty shaken up, an it's an awful thing to happen.

Its a shame that she died alright but what was a young teenage girl doing so close to the "fight".

Eh have you ever heard the phrase 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'? Unless you're extremely naive surely you know it's very easy to get caught up in a fight while you're minding your own business. Sure I nearly got pushed under a bus the other day cos some idiot shoved his mate who fell into me when I was on the edge of the pavement. My friend got her nose broken a few weeks ago in a club when some drunk guy went to punch someone and missed. There are irresponsible idiots all over the place, you certainly don't need to go looking for trouble if that's what you're implying this girl was doing.

I'm not blaming baseball - I'm blaming the people who sell baseball bats in this country for a quick and easy profit when it's not a sport that even shows up as a blip on the radar in terms of participation. It's pretty obvious what most baseball bats are bought and sold for.
Why don't you blame the person who swung the baseball bat instead of the person who sold it? Typical of people in this country that we want to blame anybody but the person who comitted the crime. What is your next suggestion, ban the sale of computers in case someone uses one to hack into NASA????

Yeah and one of the saddest things about it is that one of the men involved has a daughter the same age as the girl who died. Tbh i feel sorry for everyone involved.

Why does that make it sadder? 15yr old or 30yr old what difference does it make? Both are someone child. Someone who pulls out a bat is intending to do serious damage, or kill.

So you're saying some madman going around swinging a BASEBALL BAT (yes, one those massive and very heavy things that can do alot of damage!) at someone, irrespective of whether they smashed the intended target, wasn't planning on killing someone? Sorry, screw legal terms like manslaughter, that is murder, no accident. The **** knew what he was doing and I hope he rots in hell.

sorry no. it's not murder unless he intended to kill the girl. did he even mean to hit her in the first place? according to news reports, no. it is manslaughter

He was going out to kill someone, if you swing a baseball bat at someone's head you know you're going to cause serious injury and likley death to someone. That was his intent, he got so lucky that he didn't hit his intended target because he'll get 2 years instead of 5 years, thanks to the loophole that is manslaughter in cases like this.

Am not blaming the girl. What exactly happened though. The actual details of what occurred seem to be pretty scarce. Was she far away from home? What time of night was it? How big was the group she was in. Did the 2 men really try to abduct her? Did the 2 men start the fight. Were the 2 men taunted into challenging a group of kids.

It is an abolsutely tragic incident but the last thing I am going to assume is that she, or the group she was in, are completely innocent in all of this. Not that anything they could have done could warrant a young girl dying.

He wasn't going out to kill someone he was protecting the girl. You obviously don't know the story. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Well please do tell us what you know because I certainly haven't heard anything about him trying to protect the girl.

Today there took place the funeral of one of the men questioned in connection with this case, following his suicide.

I have no source for this, except a friend works with the girls mother, who told me. Perhaps someone can verify?

Ah well if it's in the Blanch Gazette then it's 100% true. Top quality paper that :D

Unfortunately the guy died the other day but no one has released whether it is sucicide or not (chances are it was). Again he only lives around the corner from me and as far as I know he has a 15 year old daughter as well. The story just gets more tragic.

I guess if it was sucide, he must feel responsible for the whole thing. Another tragidy if he left family behind, espically at christmas :/

i dont know the in's and out's of the story, but suicide of someone with people depending on them (15yr old girl) always makes me sick. Most selfish act possible, have a friend who's father commit suicide, their lives have been so hard since, not to mention the trauma. My friend has had to leave school and work solidly since he was 14.

    He died of an OD.

I can't believe this. 3 children. This is only going to add to the suffering of the girls family, let alone his dependants, friends, relations. Not only one life but two, this story has been absolutely horrific from the start and my thoughts go out to everyone in any way involved.
