The 'open tray and press 9,9,9,9 and then 9' code worked just fine for me.

I'd say they could be worth trying. There was about 10 left when I got mine at around 9.15 this morning...

with regards to the person who mentioned that the manual says it only accepts usb and compact flash cards up to 512MB; yes it does say this in the manual but it is bollocks, i have had a 4GB compact flash card and a 2GB USB stick in the thing already with no problems.

i would recommend going for the S-VHS input if you have a normal SD television, makes a world of difference. Also SCART lead that comes with the unit is crap, invest in a decnet one if you don't have a S-VHS input on your telly.

very happy with the unit, know a few people today who left it too late and were disappointed. at the leixlip branch this morning when i got mine @ 8:15am, there were people buying four and six units at a time

Does the drive not need to be formatted as FAT32 ?

Page 15 of the manual states "The DVD player supports USB memory sticks 1.1 and 2.00 up to a capacity of 512mb" Tried it with a USB hard drive formatted with Fat32, no joy, bit of a bummer. As i thought i had a great little media player for €60.

Dont wanna spend my lunch hour off college making my way there, to be only told theres none left, then walk back...

Give them a call in the morning and see.

Is there a memory capacity on the SD cards it takes?

Again it does say 512mb SD cards only, but it will now read my 1gb and 2gb Memory sticks so it seems a bit of hit and miss.

The remote I got with this dvd player says that the make is a silvercrest KH6058
not KH6057 and I had a 1 gb usb stick working with it. No problems at all.

Just so you all know :)

People who bought 5/6 at a time isn't fair. It was the same with the 360's.

I bought one from Lidl today and it does not support external usb hard drives I quote the manual 'The DVD player supports USB memory sticks 1.1 and 2.0 up to a capacity of 512 MB'. I am disappointed as I posted and asked if it could be used with an external hard drive and the answer I got was yes

You have to take all info given with a pitch of salt, as its more of an educated guess than concreate fact; often.

Having said that, if it can read data from a USB Key , you would have thought that it can read from a USB HDD.

The lidl web site advertisment says it will play from an external hard drive, so maybe thats why someone said it would work

Tested it with MKV files and no go. Will try out a hard drive tomorrow. Tried a 20gig notebook drive I had spare but my caddy cant get enough juice from the usb port so will go look for an external psu for it.

    EDIT~!

Just found an old 60gig 3.5inch hdd and put it into a caddy, formatted it in fat32 and transferred over 10 odd gigs of files to it. Plugged it into the unit and it read it perfectly.

I've got a 250gig maxtor and tried that on it last night, it started reading it in but theres too much crap on it for it to handle i'd say (about 150gig of mixed media).
Monkeyfudge I tried the 99999 code and it threw up a message saying "9" on screen but I couldnt find any other region DVD's to try on it. Does this mean its multi region now ?

C-13, Are the files all in one folder or numerous folders?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,584 ✭✭✭c - 13

Multi folders and nested folders Ronan. That could be the problem actually ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 334 ✭✭thenobody

    I made mine multi-region.
Not sure how was just pressing loadsa buttons.
But i think the way i did was to press the number 9 multiply times with the tray open until the number 9 appears on the screen.
Could have been 4 times, not sure.

Anyway, was multi region after that. Watched me some my name is earl region dvd right after.

Also, cant see much of a difference between the hdmi output at 720p and the component output of my tevion dvd recorder (lidl had last christmas). Seems both to be the same.

Intersting inded C-13. I will try later on with just leaving say 20gigs of video files in one directory and see what happens. Have to go do other not so interesting stuff now and will report back :)

Lidl advertised it saying it would take USB hard drives, they should be formatted FAT 32, I tried a 1 gig Databar and it worked.

Yep. That's it done. I've only tested it with region 1, but I'd assume that every region should work.

My brother pluged his Ipod in it last night 20gig. And it worked fine, going to try my 200gig HDD later might have to format it to fat32 like other posters have pointed out. If it works ill be very happy.
