Garda prick.

I'm not usually one for all that "fuck the gardaí" shite, but I had the worst experience I've ever had with a Garda today. I was walking down grafton street today. I walk pretty fast, I'm tall and my legs are long. Anyway, you know how it is. You're walking in between people on a crowded street. I'm not entirely sure how it happened but I was forced to walk between this old man and a group of chineese girls walking in front of me. I came pretty close to the old man which pissed him off for some reason. When I turned my head to say sorry about that, he threw a fist at me. This guy must have been about 70 years old. Luckily I reacted quickly enough to it and blocked it. At that point the old man called over a garda who just happened to be walking by, who for some reason hadn't witnessed this spectacle. I was trying to explain to him that this crazy old fuck had just swung a fist at me, only the old man started cutting in on top of me. He spun the story completely and said I had tried to hit him and that I had assaulted him by grabbing his arm. The garda turns to me and then asked me what happened. As I started explaining my story to him, he butts in and asks me why I'm wearing a hood. I'm thinking wtf? I asked him did it matter and if it was relivant to what happened? I like wearing my hood because it stops my hair blowing around the place which can be quite annoying, as those of you with longish hair probably know. He started questioning me about where I was going. At this stage he hadn't even heard my side of the story! After about another two minutes of trying to reason with him about how his questions had nothing to do with what had just happened he told me to "get the fuck out of here". I wasn't arsed with it all so I went on my way. I headed down to Footlocker at the bottom of Grafton St. and as I was going in I was stopped by the security guard and told to turn around. When I asked why I was told that he heard on the radio that I was causing trouble!

Is there not some kind of screening process in recruiting gardaí where they filter out all of the pricks? If I had his badge number do you think I could have reported him? I only wish I got it.

i wonder how many of the hooded minority went around poking fun at the 'trenchcoat mafia' goth kiddies after the columbine shootings.

it's never funny when it happens to your own kind is it? :)

Surely that street has blanket coverage of CCTV.
Could you follow up that way?

I'd be more angry with that old fecker who accused you of starting on him to be honest.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Sorry Binomate but if I was a Gardai and was approached by an eldery pensioner claiming some young lad with long hair and wearing a hood over his head had somehow assaulted him, despite the pleas otherwise I would probably be more inclined to show some disbelief at your side of the story.

I don't see how this makes the Garda a príck. More so if anyting this thread should be called "Old Age Pensioner Príck"

Sorry to hear about your experience but I think thats how most Gardai would react given the two involved.

If a gard has acted based on appearance, I'm sorry I'm changing my mind - The gaurd is the prick.

There is, it filters them in, not out.

Agreed. There is a good chance he was acting on the appearance, the question he asked about your hood, I don't see what it had to do with the issue.

I can't explain why I wasn't annoyed by the old guy at all really. Maybe my annoyance at him is just shadowed by my annoyance at the Garda. I mean he's there to investigate the truth isn't he? Yet he approaches something relatively small like this with his discission made because I have a hood on my head. The fact that the state pays his salary to discriminate agaisnt me really gets me angry.

Same here, I know where I'm going and I'm determined to get there as fast as my legs will carry me. (within walking speed)
Gets me in a right bloody temper weaving through all the stupid slow gobshítes who wander around like they're lost... or dodder their way out of a shop onto the street and stand there fixing their bags, oblivious to the crowd of people rushing towards them.
I've actually had to STOP and wait for one of these morons to start moving.
They need to have a fast lane for people like us and a slow lane for all the tourists, old people and women with buggies.
I'd be tempted to deck someone one of these days. FúCKING MOOOOVVVE
Needless to say I avoid the city center whenever possible.

This is just going to descend into a typical "The Gardai are useless ****" thread...rather, it already, and still on the first page...

Got to agree. The Garda was supposed to listen to both sides to the story before doing anything. Completely disregarding one side of the story because he didn't like the look of one of the people involved is not the way to effectively go about things and it only leads to more anger against the Gardai by those who end up on the wrong side of this.

Sure, more than a few young men who happen to wear hoodies cause lots of trouble on our streets but that doesn't deny all hoody wearers the right to explain their side oif the story if they feel that they are in the right. Having a law enforcement officer ignore you and then telling you to "get the **** out of here" based on the physical appearances of both parties is not on. The OP should have been allowed to explain himself at least.

If you felt you were hard done by you should have stuck to your guns and asked to have it sorted at the station along with an apology for swearing at you.

Wow, you got messed around by an old person, happens all the time i fear. And do you want to know why, because apparently we owe them something. :)

Anyway, all you can do is laugh about it dude. If it's longer haired chap in a hoodie vs old man, 99% of people ( cops or not ) are gonna pick the old man. It's tough but true.

You seem young, but eventually will learn to deal with people assuming things about you because of the way you look. ;)

Not as comical as moaning to a bunch of strangers as if looking for some sort of common agreement that all gardai are pr1cks.... Build a bridge OP....

No need to blame gardai when ye get yer ass kicked by some old dude :D:D

at the end of the day, you said yourself it was something stupid and was delt with quickly, you wer told to go on your way. Not a big deal, IF you done something wrong you got away with it. If you didnt, nothing bad happened to you anyway. Move on get over it. I doubt you were cursed at but thats trivial anyway and cant be prooved either way.

God, I'm glad you're not a garda so.
Thankfully I'm female and have yet to experience anything this, but I've witnessed / heard so many stories of gardai being ridiculously ignorant as in the OP's story, from mostly male friends of mine that unfortunately it doesn't surprise me. Can't believe they're still getting away with this ****e..
I remember 10 / 15 years ago hearing of things like this, but they still haven't improved with regard to IQ / manners.

First off I'm not getting on a rant about the Guards, however I'll just say this first before someone thinks I'm getting off on a mad one..

I'm 40yrs old, I also wear a hoodie. Usually the pullover type as I train most evenings and their warm. I'm also a serving member of the defence forces with 21 yrs service and a pretty mature and level headed bloke. Right having said all that I'll say this.........

99% of my experience with dealing with the GS has been a negative one. Most I find are bullys, and I'm not confusing assertivness with bullying as I'm a pretty assertive person myself. I've also found the vast majority of them lazy and less then conscientious!.

With the benefit of experience I tend to believe the OP's story as (again in my experience) most guards will take the easy way out & bully the easy target.

OP you sound pretty decent and level headed yourself, pity you had to discover our lazy good for nothing GS on Grafton St. today, but you got away lightly IMHO (from a bully and not justice). Mark it down to experience and never trust the swine again.

You are free to lodge a complaint about his attitude. There is a place in the Irish Life mall, it has to be in writing.

However i am guessing he did actually listen to your side of the story (at the same time as interupting you!) because he didnt arrest you for assaulting a pensioner which is what the aul lad was making out (or at least attempted assault). If he believed the aul fella you would have been hauled up the station i imagine.

YOu should have lodged a complaint of assault towards the old man, he tried to hit you!

Ugh, Buggies...people with buggies annoy the fcuk out of me "I have a buggy blah blah I'm special" Twice on satruday I had to get out of the way of two bouugies when there was plenty of space either side of me. One man didn't even bother asking my friend to move, just pushed his buggy in to her heels before she realised and stepped out of the way.
