If you go to Coisceim Dance studio on Sackville place in Dublin... they're really nice in there, and there's bound to be a dance class to suit you. the artistic director is David Bolger, and he's sound out... if you don't find something you like with them, they'll definitely point you in the right direction.

on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings for beginners and intermediate level. No previous experience necessary. Our dance studio is located in the city centre just off O'Connell Street.

you should try the NPAS (point village) BIG KIDS CLASSES for adults
huge varieties of dance styles from ballet to tap to hip hop!!

Hi, I am living in Dublin City Centre and am looking to join a broadway type/musical dance group. I am not a very good singer so ideally would just like to find a group who meet regulary to train and maybe take part in a show/musical. I am finding it really difficult to find this so if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. I am in my late 20's. I work full time so would only be available evening and weekends. Thank you.:p

Hi can anyone help me find beginner lessons for ballet, for teens or adults, the problem is they would have to be at about 7 in the evening and the only nights Im free are sunday, monday and wednesday and it would be preferable if they were somewhere in city centre, near ucd or terrenure or a connecting bus route. Thats why Im having so musch difficulty finding something to suit.

Hi,

There are a number of different dance classes on offer in Greystones, website www.greystonesstudios.com. Our new term of classes starts the week of April 13, most of them are for 10 weeks.
We offer Salsa dance on Tusdays, 7-8pm, 10 week term E110. Great for fitness are our Latin Cardio classes on offer on Mondays, 7.15-8.15pm and Thursday mornings 10.10am-11.30am.

You could check out the KC Dance academy which is along the 46a bus route in Deansgrange (15mins from UCD) they have late night classes on Mon and Wed. I think sometime after 6pm. They're not specific beginners classes as with most ballet schools those classes don't really exist. But the classes are small and you'll be with people your own age.

Hey, I've been applying to third level dance colleges, but they all seem to be ballet orientated. I'm not a classically trained ballerina and I think it puts me at a disadvantage as far as auditions for the colleges go. In general the syllabuses include: ballet, inc. grade work, modern, and contemporary.

I would like to know if there is somewhere where you can study the other styles of dance, to qualify as a teacher in say tango, salsa, swing or anywhere else you could study full time that isn't ballet/grade orientated and the emphasis is on developing your own style of dance? Or any other original and fun classes like the burlesque or the trapeze workshops?

Hi Cyclona,

Most "dance colleges" would specialise in either Ballet, Contemporary or Jazz or all three and then the last year is dedicated to the genre you'd like to concentrate most on. I don't think there are any uni accredited courses in latin dancing or any other type of dancing besides the three above. There is, however, the Hip Hop Dance Conservatory in NY if you're interested in Hip Hop but I don't even think the qualification you receive upon completion is actually a diploma or a degree.

If you're looking for a career in latin styles, I'd recommend talking to your dance teacher and ask them how they went about gaining their dance teaching certificate. Alot of dance schools abroad have specific dance instructor courses. You could then move onto choreography, or vice versa.

There are lots of other classes around Dublin - hip hop, burlesque, salsa, swing, jazz, tap etc - but unfortunately, they're not third level courses. Dublin Fringe Festival is coming up in September and there's usually some workshops on during then. Are you willing to head across the water to London? They have lots of workshops/intensives during the summer.

Something else you might want to keep in mind are the dance courses at the PLCs in Ireland. Very popular and I know lots of girls and guys who went in with no ballet experience, but they still got lots out of the course as it's a very broad one.

Hi Judith122, it depends on what type of classes you want to go to. In my case, I pay €10 per class (hip hop) with a €2 entrance fee into the YMCA. The courses I've paid for were I think €150 for 2 classes (ballet and hip hop) per week for 8 weeks at a different venue, no entrance fee. I've also paid €180 for pilates for 12 weeks but that's more specialised which is why it costs more than the dance classes.

Hi All, just going to post this up as I know that my sister-in-law is starting up Hip Hop Classes in South Dublin (Terenure Badminton Club).

The classes run on saturdays & start on August 15th. They are for both Juniors (7-11 Yrs) and Seniors (12-18 Yrs) and she has an introductory offer of €8 per class.

eoinf, what kind of dance classes would you like to take? There are so many around like. If you want partnered dance classes, I would suggest taking some salsa classes. Great craic and you get to know people as most salsa classes, you change partners. It's a lot of fun

We are forming a Go Go Dance Troupe to perform at both corporate and charity events here in Dublin. The troupe will consist of 8 women, and we will perform short sixties style Go Go routines in full Go Go dress and boots. See here to get an idea of what we're talking about:

There is a lady in her 60's working in my job who loved going to the afternoon tea dances in Jury's and since these finished she has been looking for somewhere else on Dublin's northside that holds these dances.
I have searched the internet but have had no luck finding any of these dances.
Can any of you point her in the right direction

Hi Karen,
the Macushla Dance Club provide FREE weekly dance and movement classes for the over 50s.
Based in Dance House, the club meet 11am Thursdays. Classes are free, fun and incorporate many different dance styles.
There are events organised throughout the year such as tea-dances and performance opportunities.
No need to book, just turn up.
