Your taste in partners...high or low standards?

...thought of this on the 'how good looking is your partner' thread.

Anyway, I'm no Bradd Pitt, but worse still I was born with pretty high standards. It meant that I spent much of my teens pretty much single. I always think that if I could do it again I should have tried anything with a pulse, but peer pressure and all that. It's fine now that I married a fine thing, but there was a lot of slow sets and cheek to cheek at the teen disco missed along the way.

Meanwhile, I have a great friend who has had women throwing themselves at him for the past 20 years. And better still he has the standards of a sewer rat. Anything at all, young, old, pretty, ugly, small, tall, sane, certified bonkers - absolutely anything going. And I always thought that it was the best way to be.

So what were you. A stud with no standards? A geek with high standards? Or some other amalgam?

I guess I'm quite picky when it comes to partners. All my boyfs have been "bleedin' roides" as far as I'm concerned.

I do like a man with a perfect bone structure. The sort of gaunt Johnny Depp style cheek bones I mean. My last boyfriend had them and that was enough for me!

Flings etc. I'm not as picky about but I do have some standards!

Generally though,I'm quite hard to please. I like my men to be sexy,funny and intelligent,with an air of charisma.

Way too high for my own good tbh. Been single for over three years at this stage!

For an FB or a one-night stand, my standards drop quite a bit but in fairness, I think that's true of most people!

Lots of people tend to try to box at a few divisions above their belt. Makes sense to. If you get knocked out in the heavy weight competition then you wont feel bad at all when your Middleweight champion

I also find it alot more fun to go chat to the absolute best looking girl in the room who doesnt have a 6ft 6" Boyfriend beside her of course. They are usually delighted to have somebody come talk to them because most guys were put off by how good she looks they think she will slap em away. I sneak in there and give em what they crave, attention

I was something similar when I was younger. I was so stupid that I missed women that made it quite clear that all i had to do was say the word an we could have any amount of fun together :eek: (what I tool I was)

I'm with a right hottie now tho :cool:

I'd agree with you though, if I was to do it all again I'd be of the anything female with a heartbeat variety.

When it comes to one nighters, not all that picky but if Im going to spend time with someone Ill know within 10min if its a go or not. Looks mean nothing to me if the character isn't there. If they share no interests with me or have no interest in a new point of view, Im not seeing any point. Conversation is a big one for me. Looks aren't as big a hang up for me as whether a person can maintain an interesting conversation. An interest in art and music that differs frmo the mainstream crap is a big plus.

That being said I do ahave a penchant for redheads. Have my entire life. Pale skin, copper hair - perfect....and theres the reduced sexual inhibitions that redheads invariably posses.

But then Ive black hair and dark skin so it might be the contrast I like.

I have too high demands for my own good. But then, I'd rather be be single than be with someone "just to be with someone" - it wouldn't be fair on my partner.
I've tried that it always ends in tears (hers) and blood (mine).:D

As I've gotten older my standards in terms of looks have lowered in that I won't go out with a total babe just because she's a babe. My standards have risen considerably in terms of the type of woman I'll go for personality-wise. Emotional maturity and friendly confidence (not shi*ty, Jewish princess arrogance) makes a woman very, very, very sexy even if she doesn't look like a trophy girlfriend.

ive got high standards as well. When i went to teeny discos i did score alot of girls and never took any relationship seriously until my last which has recently ended and i think my standards will be higher this time cause the next girl will have to be better than my last gf.

I spent my entire teenage years and part of my early 20's with the same guy, so I had no chance to go out and see what I could pull. But I'll say this, both my guys I've been involved with seriously, I was close friends with them before we got together, and thats what attracted me to them.

I think he must mean "JAP" or "Jewish American Princess".

Heard it referrenced in a film once. Not sure but I think it's the (sort of) equivilant to the stereotypical "Mount Anneville" type girl.

i dont have high standards really, i suppose looks comes into it, but my man makes me laugh sooo much, when i met him first, i just thought he was a nice guy , but didnt fancy him. The more i knew him the more i thought he was simply handsome and had to have him. Now i do, and he still makes me laugh like a school girl when we meet..

There's never been a single physical type with any guy I've been with. Ever, now that I think about it. The only common denominators I can think of is that they were all the type of guys who sit, quietly, and come out with the deadly wit at just the right moments. Funny enough that I end up bursting with laughter. But they don't sit there trying to be the life of the party,even if they are hilarious. It just seems to build from there, after I've known them a while. Builds up from a slow burn, like. So, I suppose, high standards, but not overtly physical ones.

I have high standards, most of them would have made great husbands (though it has take me almost 9 years to finally want to marry the man that I love), looks are not an issue, though most of them would be classified as good looking, every one of them was very intelligent, every one of them (bar one) was around 6ft plus with a great sense of humour and kind.

The fact that I've been single for 3 years tells me I must have unrealistically high standards or something. But I'm cool with that. Although I think my standards are not high physically. The girl I most adore would probably not ever be thought of as 'beautiful' by my friends.
