    By who ?
If you do that maybe you should ask yourself why.

I certainly don't automatically assume that a poster is male or female by default.
There was a time when pc and online gaming and the interweb as a whole was more a guys thing but it isn't anymore and it certainly taking somepeople a while to adjust to it.

Why should they ? are you saying their point of view or thier opinion on world afairs or games or any of the myriad of topics that boards covers will be discredited because someone happens to be of the female gender ?
A post who is female can not make serious posts and take part in a serious disscusion or be take serious in that disscusion because they are female ?

    What rubbish.
There are many wonderful insightful women that post on boards as a whole who are take seriously frist and foremost as people.
And no they are not all serious po face old maids either.
they have gotten on quite well here and are part of the community with out ever doing the look at me I'm a girl I have boobies.

No, no, I think you misunderstood me, I wasn't for one moment suggesting that those were my opinions, I was under the impression that they may have been your opinions, and the opinions of boards users in general based on your original post.
I have noticed that a there doesn't seem to be much room for a boardsie to be both girlie and intelligent.
Is it not ok to be girlie in a light-hearted thread, and then express your opinions, or observations in a more serious thread?
Or is it just the unfortunate nature of boards to be branded based on the nature the majority of your posts. (I.E. Happy, light, fun ditzy in threads in AH on chuggers, clubbing, drinking, farting - majority of AH threads - .......... and then serious and opinionated in AH threads on politics, crime, house prices... (You get the idea) - minority of AH threads -

There is a difference between posting about a topic and giving your point of view and posting about a topic and saying as a girl this is what I think.

I dont' like the new wireless 360 controlers beacuse of lag, grip, eats batteries

I don't like the new wireless 360 controlers cos I can't have one in pink.

I don't like the new wireless 360 controlers cos my fella plays with that rahter then pushing my buttons and I do like my buttons being pressed <giggle>

    See the difference ?
    QFT.

No 1. perfectly acceptable, informative opinion.
No 2. trivial reason for disliking something, a little girlie perhaps but fine.
    No 3. ATTENTION WHORE!!!!!!

    There is.
but we judge people on how they post and an idoit is an idiot regaurdless of gender.

It is but it is best not to mix them where it is not seemly to do so.
I don't have issues about people posting for giggles or posting about thier sexuality or sexual preferences at all. It is part of who we all are but does it need to be constantly refered to all the time ?

After Hours is like the kiddies corner or the central bank of boards.ie
The new people find it and flock to there and eventually grow a little and move off the street and into the pubs/ different sections of boards.ie

It doesn't mean that you don't come back to this forum ocassionally for a laugh I know I do or when the other forums I post and read are quiet.
Some people never get out of AH and for them AH is boards.ie but it not the focal point or focus of the site.

Thanks for that, I take your point, and I guess I can understand where your coming from.
I want to apologise for using Shock Treatment as an example, but I remember a time whenshe was a bit of a 'girlie poster', if I understand the definition correctly... she took a bit of flak from the boardsies, especially for posting so many pictures.... but then she vanished from AH for a wile, returned as ST*, didn't post quite so many snaps, and in a sense I guess you could say she reinvented herself and gained the respect of the boardsies in the process.

A bit of a strange example I know, but would you say it is the case that a boardsie must adapt to an 'acceptable' posting personality in order to gain the respect of the fellow users?

Like any group, club or socitey or village there are things and types of behaviour that are acceptible and that are not.

Pimping sites, posting of porn, thread spoiling, spaming are not on.
Trolling, being a muppet being aggressive in posting, being abusive in posting is not not on either.

We are allowed to be ourselves and express oursleves but not in a way that upsets, offends or pisses off the rest of the posters.

It is a but like there is feedom of expression but you don't talk about the details of your sex life loudly in a packed cinema.

Every group has it's learning curve and AH is a place where most people get thier OMG!!! the internet I can post my words and people read them and reply and Notice Me!!!! out of thier system eventually.

Guy and Gals both do this. There are no male or female Muppets there are just Muppets.

Basically you should act the way here that you would around people if you were all in a room together....and if you had someone, male or female, sitting in the corner talking loudly about something rather silly with no apparent thought behind it whatsoever then that would eventually get to you. :)

Check the Know your nerds thread, we're probably all in there by now.

Also you've all gone off topic, you're being reported.
