Believe it or not I actually have more to do with my time than post something that's unfounded. This is the second instance of this that I've heard of recently. Or no! Hold on! Maybe I've imagined it all.....
You haven't posted up any story of perverts on the prowl just the heading and a story of a stupid friend. So you do have nothing better to do than make up unfounded headings and now it sounds like you are making up what you clearly didn't say.

    thanks.

No... More like "it could be this". Not everything posted on the internet needs to be backed up up by facts and statistics... It's called "talking".

I refer you to your recent postings in the work forum if you wanna see arse talk...

It is those evil evil drunk girls (hOw DARE thy!!1!) that drive poor innocent men to evil perverted thoughts and actions. please. A perv is a perv.

    WTF???

I said I believe in personal responsibility. I never said people deserve to be raped or whatever.

I don't agree with "a perv is a perv". Sometimes people can do stupid things. Spur of the moment stupid things... Not every rapist walks around thinking "must rape must rape". Etc.

Second? Are you talking about the OP, where your friend was taken home and nothing happened? Or instances in Belfast, which myself and sinecurea never heard of?

No, a friend of a friend some months ago mistakenly got into a car after a night out and was driven past Rathfarnham (she lives in Clontarf) when she managed to get out of the car....

Ah come on now, they're not pervs, they're opportunists.

You spent longer describing a non-event yet the story that matches the heading is only 2 lines and trails off. That is still only one story on the forth page of the thread

Maybe we should stop letting women drink. Surely that would solve the problem.

This is a joke. Thank you.

How is my friend on Friday having a lift home from a randomer a non-event?

It is only a valid concern if it is happening or there is even a sniff of it happening. Not one person has even given an anicdotal evidence of something like that happening here.

    The assumptions being made are

    1) Perverts are waiting
    2) It is happening and nobody reports it
    3) Becasue it happened another place it will happen here.

To assume it is happening based on no facts and the fact it happened in another place based on illegal cabs has little bearing. According to you it is nieve to think something isn't happening in the absense of facts but not nieve to assume something is happening becasue your here it happened elsewhere?

The actual stories are based on illegal cabs. Take care of yourself should go without saying.

OK mate I can understand where you're coming from, there is no facts that this is happening. But clearly some posters have claimed on this thread that some drunk girls in Dublin are only too eager into getting into a car, without checking if it's a taxi or not. Are you to say that no one would be eager to exploit this fact for their own gain? And the lack of evidence, might surely be that these girls are so ashamed of being so stupid to get themselves into such a state, that they put themselves into a dangerous situation. So now they are too frightened and ashamed to tell the authorities.

First off explain your term "Randomer".

Your friend got really really drunk.
She tried to wave down a cab
Some guy felt sorry for her or afraid she might hurt herself etc... and drove her home.

MASSIVE leap to a pervert in my eyes and stories of "it happens all the time" is up there along with "i heard this down the pub". Just look at thread topics with clueless people asking the bloody stupid questions like "shoes on phone line means drugs?"

YOur first post is a non story because a drunk frined acted stupidly and nothing happened. You decide to describe it as a prey and predator situation when it wasn't but it was the act of human kindness. Now imagine the next man who sees a girl in trouble goes to help but becasue she "thinks" there are predators trying to nab her and she freaks out either hurting him or others hurting him. This is a lot more plausable than your stories

what the hell are you people on about?

sure there are rapists etc out there, but how is an ordinary guy who picks up drunk girls and gives them lifts home (with the intention of trying to score them) any different than a guy who tries to score them on a nite link or at a taxi rank? They're opportunists is all.

Note: by "score" I dont mean "attack" - seriously - the only difference between this and some drunk guy on a nitelink is that the driver of the car is less likely to try cop a feel or do something stupid because he's stone cold sober. These are opportunistic men (provided of course they dont try attack the women, or wait till they're asleep to start scoring them).

While it may seem a bit sleasy to prey on girls outside nightclubs to score, its what alot of single guys do when they're inside the nightclubs anyway (and on the way home)

I must state that I dont condone "driving around prowling for mad pissed girls" and then taking advantage of them coz they're hammered, but if you're on the way through town and some stunner stops your car and asks you for a lift home - well - its like some stunner asking you to buy her a drink. no?

(I havent actually engaged in this activity myself.........yet!!)

It is possible but not probable.
I know there are drunk woman in town and they act stupid and get into to cars. It is a massive leap to say that people are doing this to trap woman and have been doing it and getting away with it which is what you are saying. Highly improbable and the OP first story has no element of this danger only speculative fear.

Well I saw a bloke trying to escort a girl who was out of it out of a nightclub on Friday night.

Luckily I knew one of her mates so I knew this bloke was up to no good.

She was ****ed but she didnt deserve to be in any danger. I asked him what he was up to and he said it ok that he was going to bring her home and gave me the biggest of smiles.

I nearly knocked his block off, I told him to **** off, got him kicked out by the bouncers and me and my girlfriend looked after the girl till we found her mates.

    Scary ****,

    Emmo

Similar thing happened to me. Was in cafe en seine a few weeks ago and as I was leaving spotted a girl I know slumped in a chair with some bloke beside her with his hands all over her.
Asked him if she was OK and said yeah she's with me. She was practically unconcious and she normally doesn't drink so I asked him where he knew her from, what her second name was, where she lived and then he eventually told me that he'd only met her that evening.
Anyway after a few minutes chatting he started getting really nervous and just got up and walked off.

I had to practically carry her outside to get her a taxi and while I was propping her up waiting for a taxi a few girls asked me was she OK and i explained the situation then one of them got a Garda who I explained it to again. The garda had a chat with me for a minute then after i rang her mobile from my phone he accepted i knew her but took my name and address just to be sure.

At the end of the day, it's up to girls to look out for themselves as a lot of people won't get involved for fear of being accused of wrong-doing.

I've a real story for ya. I know a guy who was pissed drunk in town one night and got into a car with some lads. He thought it was a taxi and the lads in it said they were going to the same area as him and he could share with him. When he got in they beat him up and robbed all his money and credit cards. They forced him to give his PIN numbers. One of the lads wanted to kill him because "he has seen our faces" but the others refused and he was kicked out of the car on the outskirts of Dublin.

Now if there are people going around in cars looking to pick up drunk guys in order to rob them it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that there is pervs looking to pick up girls. Maybe it goes unreported because it is a pretty stupid thing to do (get into a car with strangers) and most would not want to admit to it. Or maybe the girl was so drunk she doesn't remember what happened.

This whole Getting Into Cars With Strange Men is just very stupid. You'd be better off sitting drunk, waiting for a real cab than wandering around the streets trying to flag down anything resembling a car.

Rather than driver attacking passengers there seems to be an abundance of yobs getting into a cab and then robbing/kicking the driver.
TWO taxi drivers are assaulted in Dublin every day - making the work one one of the most dangerous in the capital writes Kathy Donaghy. http://www.taxi.ie/taxi-hackney-assault-fears-Dublin.shtml

I can well belive all of this and more is happeneing each weekend.

Some of the states that people get themselves into is dire, I dont think I have ever been so bad as some of the people I have seen in the last few weeks.

Girls and guys need to be thought how to drink / take drugs in a responsible way.

Go out with friends, dont go home alone, stay safe, use common sense and dont get so hammered.

In the past I have been in situations where I could have scored with girls who where out of it. I found one girl near Little Britain street (real place!) who was so out of it she couldnt stand. I helped her up and brought her home at which point she was convinced my name was Tony and she wanted to sleep with me?

    WTF?

I think people owe it to themselves to stop that kind of thing from happening and protect themselves as well as others keeping an eye out for people who cant protect themselves.

What town? Is this story from Ireland or UK?

    edit/
    a bit of google mapping:
Little Britain, City of London, Greater London, EC1, UK
Little Britain, Waddesdon, Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire, HP18, UK
Little Britain, Dorchester, West Dorset, Dorset, DT1, UK

No little Britain street is off Capel Street in Dublin. Between Smithfield and Capel Street.

I belive that people, both males and females are drinking themselves into such states that they cannot look after nor defend themselves.

This is not down to some huge magic idea I have had, its down to actual incidents I have seen, things that have happened or stories that I have heard from friends and colleagues in the last few weeks.

Perhaps its not increasing perse, maybe its only being spoke about or noticed more.
