"spaced out" are you tellin me theres no drink, etc at an under age disco?? obviously there'll be people(majority or minority,whatever the case) not getting involved in these acts, but theres no smoke without fire.....

As for these stories, I can well imagine some of the stories are true, as for others, like the eh...snowballing one, I can pretty much be sure thats a load of crap.

We've all gone to underage discos, and they're all the exact same.....drink, tramps, knackers, young fellas in daddys good shirt, nice normal people, assholes etc....no different then an over 18's club then really is it....good fun, but its normal and is ALWAYS blown out of porportion.

There was survey once here in Oranmore, Galway, for all the school goers in the local secondary school. The survey was confidential and asked us questions like "Have you ever had sex" or "Do you use condoms" and similar. Of course, it was all a big joke to most of us, and people were writing all sorts of rubbish just for the hell of it. Even though this survery was mean to be a confidental thing, what came out in the local paper a few days later?

"90% of Underage teenagers having Sex in Oranmore"!!

Always take these "stories" with a pinch of salt.

i DJ'd for two of these in Carlow last year and I was shocked...and really it takes a lot to shock me. There were lads (of about 13) fingering little young ones beside the dj box, on the dance floor, in corners. Nothing would surprise me anymore about these kids.

And as I said,what I should have made a lot more clear was that aids was what I was initially thinking of and I didn't think there was a huge risk of catching it orally.

I think it's just that sex and sexual acts are more acceptable among the youth of today.

I really do think that the snowballing at discos thing is bull**** though.

That goes on in nearly every underage disco. Not saying its right or anything, but there's no point having big stories about it in the media when its been going on years.

I don't know about snowballin' but when I was going to underage discos (5 yrs ago) in my backwoods town in Donegal there was all sorts of Sexual antics going on. There were certain girls you coulden't touch after a particular time as their mouths would have been in unhealthy places. The drinking went on too. This is nothing new just the media looking for a storey. Surely there'll be a late late show special coming up soon on underage sex, its usually on this time of year. It has been for the last 10 yrs!

When I was a young lad there were a few girls who would be carrying on with their knickers around their ankles in the fields and all sorts, the same sort of carry-on in underage discos... but I think the point is that there will always be 'some' - but to tar all underage people, or even a small proportion is silly, as it is the exceptional cases that do carry out this sort of thing.

And I think the LateLate show thing has already been on this year! Bit of a let down I heard

And fade, I've seen mature people fingering and mauling each other in clubs, it's pretty disgusting to see alright, I can only imagine what seeing 12,13,14,15years-olds at it would be like!

LadyJ, it's all well and good to think that you're an ultra liberal who's well up on what happens with the kids of today but to see it happening in a night club where all they're serving is coke and orange etc...well it's hard to be nonchalant about that. (And I know they drink their vodka and bulmers etc before hand but that's not the point)

its not suprising bout sixteen yr olds wanting it, bloody obvious, but if this is going on in a "respectable" disco, the place should be closed down, grand if they want to do it **** off home and do it , i find it shocking that a ****ing TWELVE or thirteen yr old can walk around a club with jip in mouth. whats not shocking bout that?? do you condone that. good thing you dont run the place....

As I already said, no,I don't condone it but I do understand that there are cases where it happens (apparently!) so I was just expressing surprise at the fact that you were shocked by it.

Personally,I think underage discos in general are badly organised and poorly monitored. I'm not in charge though so there's fcuk all I can do about it!

All a person can do is teach their kids how to behave properly and carefully when out and even that's rarely enough.

A friend of mine was living in the bible belt in the US. There is heavy promotion of viginity etc... Many teenagers are all suppressed and feel guilty for their natural emotion and urges. As a result of such suppression the younger teens were a very clueless. As it all goes around with lack of knowlede some older teens explained a way to remain "virgin" but still pleasure themselves. AS a result there were a high portion of 12-14 having ANAL sex to remain virginal. I find this a hell of a lot worse than kids knowing information.
Frank education with talk of emotion and behaviour is needed or you end up with this kind of stuff.
