Did anyone see the article on the underagedisco in the "Wezz" in dublin lately. showed some pretty mad pics of the kids goin to it,drink etc. any truth to this article or was it just in the imagination of the media....??

It has become the traditional start to the media's silly season.

This story gets rolled out at the start of every summer and goes away as quick.

Basically, yes, it's true. It's a rite of passage almost to go to Wes at least once to celebrate the end of exams.

But if they didn't go there, they'd be doing it in someones "Free Gaf" anyway.

I'm not saying it's right. It's just part of growing up.

OP I think you'll find that drinking at underage discos,such as the Wesley,is about the least of your worries.

I've heard stories about the girls at these things tying their knickers round their wrists to show that they're going commando!

Also,there's usually kids in the corners that are...eh..."petting" each other..ahem....

Christ, young people drinking too much, pulling birds and givin the fish fingers out of sight in some dark corner of the disco. Im glad this type of carry on doesnt happen in over 18 nightclubs.


Papers like to hype things up a bit. Like the Sunday Worlds bit about the Paddys Eve Godskitchen rave in the point about 3 years back now. Hadnt been myself, when I went to the next one I was expecting a veritable sex festival as Alan Partridges assistant called it, riding on the floor and all sorts. Twas mad granted but there was none of this all over the place like the SW promised.

Mind you I was with the bird of the time that night, so if there was orgys on the dancefloor Ida probably felt short changed.....

As for these stories, I can well imagine some of the stories are true, as for others, like the eh...snowballing one, I can pretty much be sure thats a load of crap.

We've all gone to underage discos, and they're all the exact same.....drink, tramps, knackers, young fellas in daddys good shirt, nice normal people, assholes etc....no different then an over 18's club then really is it....good fun, but its normal and is ALWAYS blown out of porportion.

There was survey once here in Oranmore, Galway, for all the school goers in the local secondary school. The survey was confidential and asked us questions like "Have you ever had sex" or "Do you use condoms" and similar. Of course, it was all a big joke to most of us, and people were writing all sorts of rubbish just for the hell of it. Even though this survery was mean to be a confidental thing, what came out in the local paper a few days later?

"90% of Underage teenagers having Sex in Oranmore"!!

Always take these "stories" with a pinch of salt.

i DJ'd for two of these in Carlow last year and I was shocked...and really it takes a lot to shock me. There were lads (of about 13) fingering little young ones beside the dj box, on the dance floor, in corners. Nothing would surprise me anymore about these kids.

And as I said,what I should have made a lot more clear was that aids was what I was initially thinking of and I didn't think there was a huge risk of catching it orally.

I don't know about snowballin' but when I was going to underage discos (5 yrs ago) in my backwoods town in Donegal there was all sorts of Sexual antics going on. There were certain girls you coulden't touch after a particular time as their mouths would have been in unhealthy places. The drinking went on too. This is nothing new just the media looking for a storey. Surely there'll be a late late show special coming up soon on underage sex, its usually on this time of year. It has been for the last 10 yrs!

When I was a young lad there were a few girls who would be carrying on with their knickers around their ankles in the fields and all sorts, the same sort of carry-on in underage discos... but I think the point is that there will always be 'some' - but to tar all underage people, or even a small proportion is silly, as it is the exceptional cases that do carry out this sort of thing.
