    My old next door neighbour was called Dick Long (or long, Dick in the phone book) His nephew is called Richard and now lives there and for obvious reasons wont shorten his name.

    I had a woodwork teacher called Mr Tickle, who got engaged to a lovely lady called Tessa. She was generally referred to as Tess though, and ended the engagement shortly after.

    In school there we had Ms. Carr, Ms. Van and Ms. Ferry, Ms. Van was a shortened version of her dutch/German name that no-one could pronounce.

    I know a bloke that was with a gil from Ballygooley, her name was Hilda Hooley!
