TBH exactly the same can be said about the stereotypical Irish attitude towards the English.

They do it very publically in a sly, condescending way thats really irritating.

as individuals english people are fine but when they get togethar in the name of supporting there national team they seem to turn into big headed idiots

TO THE ENGLISH: WILL YOU EVER SHUT UP ABOUT 196F*C*ING6! 1966 ON THE BRAIN! GET OVER YOUSELVES! 40 YEARS AGO, 40 FCUKING YEARS AGO! I MEAN JESUS WILL YOU GIVE THE WORLD A BREAK. ITS NOT ONLY THE IRISH THAT DONT WANT YOU TO WIN IT, ITS THE REST OF THE WORLD TOO BECAUSE YOU WILL GO ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON ABOUT THE 'SPIRIT OF 2006' FOR THE NEXT 40 YEARS! NOOOOOOOOOOO:eek: YOUR SELF MADE FAVOURITES AGAIN FOR THIS TOURNAMENT TOO AS EVERY TOURNAMENT SINCE.
    Rant over.

Yeah, and will the irish ever shut the fcuk up about Ray Houghton putting the ball in the English net. Jesus, it was 18 years ago now and you never stop going on about it.

Face it, we are as bad as them, and we are just jealous cos we never won the world cup. We would go on about it forever if we won.

    (BTW, I'm Irish)

Part of the reason why I don't support England is due to them being our rivals but also due to their horrible media. As Dunphy pointed out on RTE, the Telegraph was waffling on about God being English. Unbelievable bullsh*t.

The media think they are world beaters. Reality will soon come crashing down on them as has happened for Henman in Wimbledon year after year after year...

What's the difference between their dry jibes and the ones we have on our sports coverage.

Huh? You think we go on about Houghton's goal as much as they go on about 1966? Get real.

No, but Houghtons goal was just that... a goal. England won the World Cup.

If Ireland won the World Cup we'd still be going on about it in 50 years (although it would obviously be a much bigger achievement than England in 1966).

Sometimes I think the best thing would be for England to win the WC again, have four years of boasting and then hopefully it would all die down...

Wishful thinking, a new generation would be tortured for the next 50 years about 2006.......i just think the world will end if they win it. Their so fixated on it that they will just get so big headed after it, it would be unbareable.

Switch the channel if you dont like it! What do you want them to do, ignore it?! Its a bloody great achievment, and talking about it doesnt hurt anyone. Nice to have some light hearted news on the tv for once, and football is something most people love, why not go on about it

Id rather we didnt take that risk and they just got knocked out tbh. If they had any sense of modesty I wouldnt mind at all.....but they dont so I wont support them.

That's not their fault, it's our choice, we buy their papers, we pay to watch their TV stations. If you only watched RTE & TV3, and only read Irish papers you would not be aware of the way their media act.

Jaysus! So much for political neutrality!! And it was your reference that Bertia was always right I was 'whatting' to!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Because it is headwrecking, thats why. Remember we have more of their media then our own so were in the firing line along with the Scots and the Welsh. You know what its actually sad and demonstrates their failure as a footballing nation that they still harp back like it was yesterday, of course they dont see it that way and they constantly use it as a stick with which to beat the germans which is another thing.

HELLOOOOO. That's because IRISH PEOPLE choose to buy English newspapers. They wouldn't sell them here if there was no demand. They wouldn't broadcast their TV stations here if there was no demand.

We dont pay to watch their tv stations at all. The fact we get them is actually because the signal origionally got through from the North.

Nobody is bombarded, theres about 3 or 4 national broadsheets, 5 terrestrial tv staions, a heap of radio channels, and hundreds of foreign NON British, Tv channels... And the internet! how much media do you need

Plug out your cable, stick an aerial in the back of the telly and see what you get...

(Depends on where you live obviously)

Im talking about TV........and Im not one of those Irish ppl that buys the rags either.

First of all the BBC is not actually meant to be broadcast here. We dont pay for it, it has nothing to do with us but we get it anyway.

Irish people pay for SKY. Irish people pay for packages containing UK TV stations with NTL, Chorus, etc

Irish people choose to tune in BBC & ITV on their TV sets.

In the 60s the signal came from Northern Ireland - FACT. They are technically not meant to be broadcasting here at all but they dont care and niether do we.

Do you watch BBC and ITV?

Why don't you just tune in RTE 1 & 2, TV3 & TG4 if the English upset you so much?
