Well I would drink usually 10 pints a night (sometimes more, depending how early I go out - usually directly after work)
    4 days a week (sometimes 5)
    So I'm screwed :)

but i think that anybody that likes the taste of alcohol has a problem to some extent!it doesnt have a nice taste to tell us we shouldnt drink too much of it!

    I'd say the opposite. If you don't like the taste of it and you still drink it then you are only drinking for the effect (not to say you aren't if you like the taste.}

Myself I'd normally drink between 5 and 10 pints on a night out, depending on what I was doing.

Rofl, Heavy drinking for me used to be a night out and then a bottle of vodka at the party after.
Long time ago, my tolerance is gone to **** and the hangovers get worse as time pass's.
alcohol's a ****e drug anyway, there's far better out there.
    Second that mordeath.

oh god, I'm a raving alcoholic!!

I have no idea how much I drink, I count it in money, depending on how much I spend on a night out, generally that would be about 60 - 70euros. I guess if you count it as 2 vodka's and one diet coke costs on average 10euros, that's about 12 vodka's, but then if we're in rounds, I can drink more... (sometime I also find I've spent more when I've checked my bank balance, damn those pubs with drink links in them!! (atm machines))

Had a chat with some ne ast nie and I have to say I was quite surprised when they decribed me as a heavey drinker. What is you definition of a heavey drinker.Mine is someone who might drink 16 or 17 pints in one nite. My friend would classify anything over 5 as heavey. What would you describe as heavey

with that kind of drinking you yourself must be heavy.

Well I would drink usually 10 pints a night 4 days a week

80 units a week is a little over the 21 recommended
I drink 2 pints of guinnes at the same time and a hip flask of vodka

:D I try and have at least 4 pints, a bottle of scotch and 12 tequila slammers on the go at the same time

On average I'd have 4-5 pints on a Friday night spread out over about 5 hours (yes, I'm a slow drinker but I've learnt my limits over the years). I'm a Guinness drinker and enjoy the taste, so non-alcoholic Guinness isn't an option.

There's no set amount you have to drink to be classed as an alcoholic. It's an attitude to alcohol. Many people/places will have their own way of saying "You're an alcoholic", many of which would place 90% of Irish people in the "alcoholic" class.

You cannot be told you're an alcoholic. You first have to realise for yourself that your alcohol intake is affecting your life (for better or worse) in some way. If you cannot bring yourself to change your intake to change its effects, you have a problem.

On average I'd have 4-5 pints on a Friday night spread out over about 5 hours

same as me, I find doing rounds is a pain in the arse cause then I have to force myself to drink faster

Well I would drink usually 10 pints a night 4 days a week

imo thats a very heavy drinker

when im at home its 8 cans of bud and a bottle of wine, when out in the pub id probably go through 14 or 15 bud depending on where i am, if go to a club put another 5 or 6 on to that.

For the 3 monts of the summer in America I think I averaged about 45 pints a week...not good for the old body.
Put on well over a stone aswell.

I consider someone who drinks more than 3 or 4 drinks a night for more than 3 days of the week a heavy drinker. A person who would have 7 or more in one night once every two weeks is a binge drinker in my opinion(kinda like thrill seeking drinking in my opinion, "lets go mad 2nite!").
I myself could not drink too fast. It goes straight to my head. And i am not one to go out and take shots. My brother can drink most people under the table, i wonder sometimes how he can do that he's as skinny as me but taller. I dunno. Some people are able to metabolise alcohol quicker and id say that#s why people have different limits to heavy drinking.

You people are kidding yourselves if you think 10 pints isn't excessive. It's far more than you need on a night out, especially if followed by shots or vodka. It wasn't until I left Ireland in May that I really realised how big of a problem drinking is there. People get completely hammered and spend obscene amounts of money, every single weekend. Imagine what it's doing to your liver. I lived in France in the summer with another Irish girl, and we went out a fair bit with local people and were seen as the Irish alcos, despite the fact we don't drink much at all. We'd have a glass, maybe two, of vodka and coke before going out, 2 beers in a club and maybe a shot and people were looking at us like we were insane. They all just have one drink, or two at a stretch. I live in Spain now, where binge drinking is the only entertainment (I'm talking knacker drinking in a car park, everyone does it), people get completely hammered but even they drink in general far less than the average Irish person. It's really worrying.

5-6pints+ is heavy, I would say, particularly if it's more than once-twice a week.

I'm absolutely appalled to hear people drink 10 pints in one evening, nevermind more. That's insane.
'm quite a light drinker, though. Maybe 3/4 pints if I'm out... 5/6 cans or 8 bottles if I'm in...
    Er, that's not "quite light"...
