When I was in Canada for the summer, myself and a few of my friends went white water rafting. I fell out of the raft at a pretty dangerous place and was sucked under the water by a current. They tried throwing me ropes but they missed. It was very scary.
Eventually the raft in front of us was able to get me a rope but there was no time to pull me on before the next rapid so I had to go through it in the water holding onto a rope. Thankfully all I had were a few cuts and bruises. Could have been way worse!!

I was hillwalking with some other people outside Westport about a year ago.
We were all walking on a hillside sloping down towards a 40 foot drop and the sea. Suddenly I slipped and started sliding down towards the edge. Digging my heels and fingers into the damp ground I managed to come to a halt before falling over but it was a very close call indeed...

Wow all your experiences are much more scary.
I sat back on some grass but i'd sat back on what i hope to this day was glass (*not a needle*) and got a really deep cut and i went into shock, was bleeding all over the place.

Howandever when i went to the doctor to get my stitches out he said if it had been an inch to one side i'd have cut an artery and have bled to death within a few minutes and i never would have gotten to hospital in time.

Scared me no end. I had no plan to bleed to death in a park in coolock.

not really near death but near scarring: my mother had made chips and she put the pot full of oil on the draining board to cool. when she put it down it started to sizzle the water that was on the draining board and i couldn't hear the tv over it so i poured a glass of water into it. destroyed the curtains but my reflexes were fast enough that it only got on the back of my top. i'm an idiot :D

Was in a couple of car crashes, one when I was 5 or 6. The car I was in got hit by a car that went out of control on a bend hitting us and almost pushing us to a drop of about 30 feet. Remember having to get out of the drivers side and seeing the car with one wheel (the one in front of me) hanging over the edge.

The other was when a ESB pickup truck collided with me head on, on a small by road at around 80 km/h, I wasn't really injured... But I was well pissed off.

Chair lift? As in the machine that carries grannies up stairs??? How did that happen?

Slipped while coming off at ramp with drop on one side, was struggling up, chair behind (with no one on it) was coming up, turned around and just saw this chair heading for my head, let go and fell for about 6 feet down back of chairlift ramp, not a big deal in retrospect but was scary at the time.

I was shot in a bank robbery in New York in 97, I served 2 years in the state prison.

10 years previous whilst on holiday with my family in Tailand the small plane we were island hopping in crashed into the ocean.

Well, is was cycling along, and went round a corner, started to speed up so I was standing on the pedals, and the chain locked up as did the wheels, so the handle bars turned completely to the right, and my lower abdomen slammed right into the end of the handle, then I fell. Next thing I know, I've a big cut on my shoulder and the side of my face, I must've hit the curb or something, can't remember, and theres a big bulge where the handle bar went in. Nearly passed out, got an ambulance anyway, turns out I got a hernia and damaged the outer wall of my bowels.

Only thing that was ever near death, was when I was about 7,8 on holidays in Ibiza I nearly drowned.... I can remember it really well for some reason. The feeling of helplessness.

Ive had a few. I was once nearly killed by an elephant. Well technically the post mortem wud have said a tree, but elephant was the cause. Most ppl in ireland decide to go travelling after school/college and end up in australia or some wuss place like that. I spent a few years in east africa. was out campin with some mates and woke up next morning to a loud bang. elephant outside was eating the bark off a tree but fortunately when it fell it fell away from the tent!!

I almost died of a snake bite too. oh and i was nearly shot accidentally by a shotgun.

However my life since returnin to dublin is boring!

Only a month or two ago I was sitting on a wall eating with some friends after a night out. The other side of the wall was 8ft high, and I fainted and fell backwards and landed on my head on concrete and broken glass. Went to hospital with only minor cuts and sore neck muscles.

According to my friends, the fact that i fainted and fell like a rag doll saved me from being quadraplegic or even dead.

Was climbing up a steep muddy bank after crossing a river - slipped and fell into the river then got carried down the slimy, slippery riverbed rock by gravity and by the current for about 30 feet before going over a waterfall of about 15-20 feet - the whole lot took seconds and was some shock, good talking point afterwards though.

Was hit by a car on Washington St. [?] in Cork when I checked for traffic in the only direction it could not be coming from on a one-way-street  Technically it was a hit and run - I rolled up the bonnet slid across the windscreen and landed with both feet squarely on the ground somehow  Had a pint in Rosie O'Gradys 2 min.s later to settle my nerves and keep the other 12 pints company....

Was hit by a moped at the side entrance to Heuston Station New years eve '99/2000 - was another hit and run actually but not my fault this time - more to do with the tosser on the bike and my mates who had been obscuring my view of the impending collision jumping out of the way at the last minute to save themselves without warning me

When I young I decided to put my parents warning that the sockets are dangerouus and WILL kill you if you put your fingers in them.,

So out comes 2 metal envelope openers. One in the earth pin to open the bottom sockets and in goes an the other envelope opener, followed by a massive shock which had me shaking on the stairs for about ten minutes.Needless to say my parents never were told

Myself & my gf were on the Helios Boeing 737 that crashed in Greece last year, a few months before the accident happened. We were boarding the flight through the doors at the back of the plane and were leaving Larnaca (Cyprus) for Dublin. In Larnaca airport you walk up to the plane and board via a stairs. As my gf was boarding, I took a pic of her and by coincidence, the reg number of the plane was captured on the pic. After the acident in Greece last year, when we heard that Helios only had a fleet of 4 Boein 737's, we looked through our photgraphs and were amazed to find one with the planes reg number in the photo. We checked it on the internet and low and behold it was the same plane. The even scarier thing was that when we were on this plane, there was definetely something wrong with the air conditioning system, it was like being in a sauna all the way from Larnaca to Dublin, and it turned out that it was apparently a fault with this same system that caused the plane to depressurise and crash.

Jesus that was lucky and you're right about the fault!

I flipped a punto a few years ago after missing a parked car who had his full lights on (I thought he was driving) by a few inches and a massive old stone wall the other side by a few inches only to hit a tree and roll over a few times. Survived with cuts and bruises, would have been killed if had have been in the passenger seat. The car was full of teenage girls coming back from a disco, two had just crossed the road where I came along literally seconds before it happened and one was standing behind the car at the boot, all would have been killed if id hit him.

Was on holiday when i was 11 and walking around the edge of the pool in the hotel when a manhole beside the pool gave way and I fell about 12 feet to the bottom of the pool machinary room, smacking my head off a ladder on the way down and landing winded on my arse! Still have the bump on my head. :)

A few years ago I was staying with girlfiend in dublin and we were woken by her phone ringing and her flatmate saying come help me im stuck at the security gate outside. I went back to sleep and was woken about ten minutes later by my girlfriend shouting for me to get up and help. She ran off and I lay there wondering WTF was going on, next thing heard sirens and went out to the front of the apartment. Her flatmate was stuck on top of the security gate with one of her legs pierced with the iron bar on top. She climed over it as the code panel had frozen, slipped and was lodged on top of the gate. Firemen cut the whole section of the gate off and brought her and her bars to hospital. Quick surgery and she was fine :)

Some dickhead boy racer was flying about the place in his heap of shite 92 nova or something equally laughable,I was crossing a roundabout, he indicated right and at the last minute gave a huge rev and swung left, literally had to dive outta the way, wasn't injuired but I was given a bit of a shock

Got home from school early one day in 5th year and decided Id be a nice boy and load the washing machine for Mum when she was at work. Really warm weather, nice and dry, I went into the garage and as soon as I touched that inner wall of the washing machine drum I got a shock. It took me a few seconds to figure out that it was just static electricity and harmless.

So I loaded the machine, flipped the switch and when I went to plug in the machine *BAM* white lights and my body feels like hes got enough current to light up Hong Kong. Premonition or what! Must have been as bad as I had imagined it, since Im still alove. Apparently I justwalked around with my hands up in the air for about 3 or 4 minutes after, weirdest feeling ive ever had! Kind of turned me on a bit...

Well, sort of close. Was a passenger in a mates car (4 in total in the car) and were involved in an accident (no other car though). It was rather scary stuff at the time. I recall when I came to, my head was stuck between the 2 passenger seats (I was front passenger) and my mouth was full of glass. I only got a bit of whiplash though. Me and the guy directlyh behind me were the luckiest ones.

The other guy in the back got a broken neck, though. And the driver ended up worst off, being paralysed from the waist down.

Definitely not something I ever want to experience again.
