Brown Thomas are cheap B**tards!!

My Dad brought my sisters Gucci watch in to get a new strap put on.

It was done there and then, 65 Euros.

Turns out my 'Dad' was Done there and then. The 'new' strap was old and had a worn appearance, nice.

My Dad had to bring it back, got his money back, and they took back the recently fitted strap and put back on the first one.

I would have thought I could trust them to do a job correctly. They should have handed back the old strap and not worry bout taking back an oul worn strap.

What will they do with the worn strap, . . . flog it off again??? Chancers :mad:

I think the guy working at the counter is called Mr Trotter.

Children are dying every day in africa(and in some other countries too). Money is being wasted and squandered willy nilly while these poor young uns starve to death.

Brown Thomas obviously realise this and have acted accordingly. They put on a slightly worn strap in a bid to save some money and send it on to the hungry kids and what does your papa do. He starts bawling like a spoilt kid and demands a brand new strap immediately. WAAAAAHHHH ITS WORN YOU BEASTLY MAN.

If his darling daughter doesn't have a brand spanking new strap for her hideously over priced gaudy gucci watch then her friends will turn up their snooty noses at her and she'll no longer be invited to the handsome rugby players ball.

No offence josephbrand(3/10, brand implies materialism) but do you think the hungry brown kids will be getting invites to the rugby players ball?

Little known BT fact. When the place flooded a while back, there was tons of cosmetics with damaged packaging. Now being Brown Thomas they obviously couldn't sell produce with damaged packaging (heavan forbid:rolleyes: ) so rather than sell it off cheap, or what could have been great PR, donated it to charity shops to sell on, they decided to dump it all in a big skip.

It could have been to do with health and safety. I remember some time ago a Spar shop that I worked next to was flooded. They were required by law not just to get rid of all their stock but to have a security guard to protect the stock from being nicked while it was being put in the skip for collection.

I would guess the insurance paid for the goods hence they didn't need to sell them. WHen there had been a fire and water damaged stock in Switzers they argreed to sell stock of cheap with the insurance company. They found this drastically effected their sales afterwards. I doubt they will make that mistake again

I would guess this time they decided not to damage their own market so gave the stock away. What is disgraceful is the charity shops had to dump the stuff. Effectively they made a charity pay thier waste disposal costs but why the charity accepted such stuff in the first place is also questionable.

For stock and return reasons faulty goods are returned to suppliers so the shop can get a refund. This is why they took back the watch strap. Why should they just accept a loss that might be the producers fault? Don't foreget shops are customers of suppliers

It was probably a returned one which accidently went back onto the shelf. If they need to send it back to the manufacturer, theyd need to take the strap too.

I find the customer service in BT is great and I would hope that the incident in the OP was a genuine mistake. Certainly anytime I've had cause for complaint they've been very helpful.

I don't find BT any more expensive than other shops in Dublin and if things there cost the same as elsewhere, I would buy in BT's purely because of customer service. It's nice to be treated as a human. Service in some shops in Dublin is horrendous!

If they were real cowboys, you mightn't have even been offered refund/replacement at all.

As far as I know, the goods with flood damage had to be disposed of as it wasn't just water they were soaked with.

I have to agree, I had a complaint with them before about junk mail, and they sent me a €200 voucher by way of apology. Can't ask for fairer than that!

My only experience with Brown Thomas and their customer service was negative. I lost the receipt of the jacket which had a faulty zip and they refused to do anything (so much for a good will gesture). I then brought them my credit card statment from which it was clear to deduce I'd bought it there. They took it back to have a check (they wouldn't exchange) and told me they'd call me if it was ok to repair. Three weeks later I'd heard nothing. I call them to see what the craic was. They finally repaired it (three more weeks) but didn't post it out as promised. Another call from me and they eventually posted it out. All in all it was pretty shocking level of service. I'm also amused at the way the floor staff follow me around when I'm scruffy and how snooty they are when I always decline their assistance. I mean, how much do these pompous muppets earn? They only fold f**king jumpers yet they act like they own the place!

Have to say I find that very surprising, I work in Brown Thomas and if ever there is a complaint of that sort they usually give the customer the benefit of the doubt. You definitely can't call them cheap because they lose thousands of euro of merchandise every year because we're not allowed ask customers how many items they bring into the fitting room because "we trust our customers". It's a bit stupid.

You'll always get a few idiots that think because they work in BT they are better than everyone else but most of the people who work there are really nice and friendly. You get trained in customer care skills so most of the staff are very helpful

Here here! My girlfriend used to work in Brown Thomas in Limerick and all the girls she worked with were very nice, and any time I was in, seemed to be taking care of customers...
Not to tar everybody with the same brush here but some of the BT customers on the other hand... Ignorant :mad:

They sold/gave a lot of it to the staff that worked there.

after the flood a dry cleaners in donny brook bought most the stock and sold it dirt cheap, i remember it well, most our school went on the hop and bought suits and the like, best dressed school that year, the lost property at the end was a goldmine

And on topic!! I do think that was bad..but like they gave u a proper one so what are you complaining about..all shops have a few faulty goods its bound to happen.

And in my dealings with BTs theyve been pretty damn good. I bought a bag there recently and sometimes some people in shops think teens are a nuisance but the guy i bought it off was exeptionally nice.

The only thing i can say is they sometimes can be a bit snooty like i used to go in in my uniform and i would definatly not get the same responce then if i went it head to toe in designer labels which is bull****.

A couple of years back I bought a watch there dressed in whatever crap it is I usually wear into college and the lady was incredibly nice. The watch was also the same price as the newbridge silver website quoted.

Saying that I did stand and laugh for a good 10 minutes at all the poor souls crying outside when the place flooded

Think if you read it again it says that "they didn't give it away to charity shops (the poster was saying they could have for good PR) but they (BT's) put them into a skip themselves".

Many shops work on commission. It's the only way to motivate employees to sell.
They don't actually get that much commission in there compared to other sales jobs.
Something like 1 or 2% of takings I think.

That's a total generalisation. of course you get snobs in there, I should know, but the majority of the customers whether they have money or not are really polite.
As for the people who work there, most of the girls I know are absolutely lovely, I've made some really good friends in there. It is mostly the older women who have worked there for years and think they own the place that are rude but all the young people are just like most of you, students trying to make a bit of money to get through college.

Tarring the people who work there and the customers who shop there with the same brush is a mistake. I'm a student, do you think I can afford to shop there? I wouldn't look down my nose at anyone who comes in
