I don't understand the mod fanboys who clamour to see people banned. What pleasure do you all derive from it? From what I've seen here, anyone who deserves to get banned does get banned. Why do you want mods running amok with bannings, it makes the place more bland without the dissident element.

kernal, think its due to the fact when i had more free time, I was the sole mod in here... i ran things pretty strictly alot more so than they are now, the general level of posts was readable....

but then back then far less users..but now more users and more muppets little harder to stem the flow... feck no ... alot harder...to stem the flow at some of the utter rubbish i see in here at times...

i may not make the noise i used to in here, but im still here working in the backround...Beat can attest to that, which was nothin personal, rules are rules...they are there for every one, not just non-mods.

The rules are rules, fair enough, and there are muppets - but I think the muppets get banned already - why ask for more bannings? I worry when normal users keep going on about banhammers and such, I think we should ban the trolls/muppets, but live with the diversity in opinion and intelligence - at least it makes it more interesting!

For issues like spamming, I think that older users like yourself and Sleepy have just seen it all already. I've noticed many of the same threads popping up now and then, and it's a pain, but I suppose the new users just don't know we've covered it all before.

After hours, these days is pretty well covered, but the levels of rubbish, not things that have been posted already... but just utter rubbish is pretty bad...what you dont see is the amount of stuff thats deleted these days.

Some people seem to be unable to look for the correct forums to post in(tv ads as a recent example...I wonder maybe that might just be posted under television)...I alone move as many as 60 topics a week out of ah to proper places.
As you say muppets do get banned pretty fast, what people looking for banhammers are concerned with is what they get away with until it gets to that point... way Ive always worked is, 3 strikes and you get permbanned....1st is a warning, 2nd is a temp ban, 3rd bye bye for good....Seems harsh dosent it... but when people know those are the rules they are and were far less likely to break them. Every one here knew I didnt take crap from anyone mods included, having banned 13 of them over the years from after hours....

Call me what you will, my job here is to keep this board trouble free...and will do as I see fit to do so... within reason of course.

everyone here has an opinion as i said. everyone once they have been here remebers when it was such and such a way. most of get over it.
some people complain about the 'newbies' who have to prove themselves.

believe me, if i was to ban everyone who posted something thats been here before, thats posted a topic that ive answer back in 1999, who has posted the same opinion that id read back in 98, who thinks they are the dogs bollocks like such and such back in 2003, you, there would only be me here.

the reason that a people dont get banned whilly nilly is becuase the mods understand that everyone is different.
we have seen it all before and we are pretty tolerant. there is not going to be ban hammer. there are not going to be bannings for being stupid. there are not going to be bannings bring up the same topics as before. there are not going to bannings because someone thinks that someone is annoying.

if we were to ban people for this and that, then we are accused of being freedom of speech nazis.
of course, now we are just cultivating a forum of shít to other people. well, so be it. we have a very fine line to keep to try and make this forum operate. its really fúcking difficult to be honest. you wouldnt believe how difficult it is to moderate a forum like this.
everyone wants something different. and everyone wants to stamp out what they dont like. and you know, we are know that. and we tolerate the intolerant

so thats pretty much what its about. you can disagree. you can complain all you want. but after hours works like that. we are here to make sure that this forum runs.
if we move something, its because we feel it should be moved.
if its pure drival we delete it. if youre abusive, youre banned.

if i dont like you, if i think you are full of crap, if you have nothing useful to say, just want to talk about your tits and your sexual exploits, your baby, your father, boyfriend, car, or want to speak in the 3rd person, i wont ban you.

and thats why there are very very very few people that i would have as mods.

so, instead of complaining about this and that, if someone wants to actually make some suggestions on how they feel things can work better, then id be delighted to talk about it.

so, less bitching and whinging, and more positive suggestions please.

Damn right I'm inconsistant! I never said I'd value consistancy as a mod, nor did I say I wanted it at any point. In fact, you never even mentioned that the rules had to be applied consistantly at any point: rules are generally defined by their exceptions anyway, and no matter how hard we try, all of us are inconsistant to some degree.

And as our admins are so fond of reminding us, boards is not a democracy. Even for subscribers.

Well, ironically, I just went to find an example of muppetry only to find that someone had done a very nice cleanup job.

Granted, I'd have canned that East europeaner's but it seems to be panning out nicely now that everyone's decided to take the piss out of the original poster

I don't think you can think up hard and fast rules for After Hours, just go with what's obvious and try to stay consistant with in a pattern. Monty's expectations just seem to match mine quite nicely, and it seems I'm not the only one that thinks that.
