Dave Fanning moving to Radio One, in a new 7pm slot.

Wow. Didn't see that coming. Or John Creedon going after midnight either. Or Derek Mooney getting a daytime show.

Pity Damien Farrelly, he's built up a good audience for himself between 12-2.

And still they can't bring themselves to move Gerry Ryan. I wish, fervently, that Newstalk would get Gerry Ryan, and let 2FM reinvent itself. With Gerry Ryan there, its just shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic.

Gerry "Me, my family and Clontarf" Ryan, Marty "past it" Whelan and Ruth "words cannot describe how much I hate her voice" Scott are still there. :mad:

Surprised Dave Fanning is moving. I guess I'm really stuck with Today FM now, except for when/if I can get Newstalk....

As for Newstalk and G Ryan, I'd hope they'd have more sense than to try getting him onboard. Maybe RTE should move him to night time on 2fm, or R1

The only thing that the 'new' schedule has going for it is a bit more regularity.

The half hour hour shows here and there (daytime) seem to have been swept aside for shows that actually start on the hour.

Mooney on weekdays should do well in my opinion...providing RTE don't do their usual trick with 'stars' and over-expose them.

A late night arts strand is a good idea but only if its done well otherwise 60 mins will be purgatory. ie it has to be better than Rattlebag and Myles (D4 smug) Dungan.

Sack the feckin' lot like BBC Radio 1 did in their infamous purge.

I can't think of a single *general programme* presenter I'd like to stay on RTE Radios 1 and 2, although as much as it pains me to say it, Tubridy is ok, and I have a soft spot for John Creedon.

However...

Get Vincent Browne a daytime slot!
Bring back David Hanley!
Marianne back on Liveline!
Move Mystery Train to an earlier slot!
Zig and Zag back in the mornings!
Get rid of *all* 5-7 live's horribly dated jingles

and most importantly, death to Gerry Ryan, the middle-aged bejowled overpaid gimp RTE still thinks is "the voice of Ireland's youth".

I'd hardly call Kells-living Cavanman Dungan a D4 man, but he's been on the campus quite a while, and if the arts are within an asses roar of Donnybrook, they are covered.

Likewise. John Clarke is an complete idiot... the only half-saving thing about 2fm other than Fanning was Rick O Shea's night time show, and now he's been replaced by housewives favourite and general thicko Farrelly.

Anybody know if Dan Hegarty is keeping his midnight show?

I had to smile when I turned on Prattlebag this afternoon.
M Dungan was playing "always look on the bright side of life"
by Monty Python et al.

It turned out it was a last Friday of the month programme where
he invites in a "curator" for choice of music/content so
it was more ironic than sour grapes by Dungan on his
show being dropped from RTE1 I guess...

I've always found the show to be slightly up its own rear end (but that
is a very personal opinion). Mind you I would be ambivalent about
M Dungan - a few times he has had interesting content on and
I can rise above my prejudices about my slight dislike of his
persona/presentation style.

Without going Off topic Dungan does my head in cos of his obvious political bias. I'd love it if one day he invited some artist from the States who after he plugged his film/book/scultpur about the oppressed suddenly declared he thought George Bush was a great leader! I've lost times of the number of times he has had got some 'liberal' on and then led him/her along a certain line of discussion which mainly involves giving the right/Bush a good artsy kicking.

Mind you this is an RTE problem rather than just Dungan.

I could never take him seriously doing that show, still too many bad memories of Murphy's Micro Jizzum, sorry, Quiz-M and him harrassing Gaybo pretending to be a French tourist.

i'd completely agree with you there, i actually made a complaint about rattlebag to the BCI last december when i heard the F word used with regularity on two seperate programs in poems, i complained on the basis that it was unneccessary and also at 3.00 it would be a time when most mothers are picking up their children from school etc, Rattlebags producers respone was schooolkids don't tune in to rattlebag, total cop out, the actual challenge that they got a copy of stated most kids are subject to whatever mammy is listening to, and most mothers will be listening to liveline and not bother to switch when rattlebag comes on, secondly they stated one of the poems was from a traveller and they didn't ask him to censor it because they felt swearing was his culture, what a load of balls, i know the actual traveller cause i used to work in a pub that he drank in near enough to a halting site, and he wasn't any more of a curser than an average person, if told not to read that particualr poem he wouldn't have.
so basically they were completely un appologetic about turning the airwaves blue at 3.00pm, well here's one for you rattlebag, free of charge, i'm FU(KIN delighted you were cancelled

Why do we feel the need to censor bad lanuage on Irish Radio and TV? While I think it is not necessary to curse if someone feels the need to place it in a poem (I have read many poems with bad lanuage in them) then there is no reason to censor it when read aloud, perhaps the publishers of the poem should also delete the word in the same way as we ****ing do on boards.

What was the poem about?

If the poem was unoffensive, other then the f word, then I have no objection to the f word being used. I hate the fact that I can say bolix and not ****/****/**** on boards.

However it is the policy of all broadcaster to delete bad language from popular song lyric, which really bugs me. Rather if your going to censor something listen to what been said and have a reason for the censorship. Not just because kids will hear the F word. For **** Sake most Irish Kids use the word all the ****ing time.

There are still people in this country who get all hot and bothered when somebody uses the F word on radio???? :eek:

I welcome the use of any language on the radio at any time, for it's the language we all use. Remember there is, sensibly, no watershed on radio.

the use of bad language on radio is not advised, and is frowned upon under BCI guidelines of vulgarity, even the most avid curse fan would have to admit that filling the airwaves ,(between the two shows it was used over ten times, and was only the worst of the language, i didn't bother mentioning the liberal use of SH!t either) is not the best policy at 3pm.
My problem wasn't that they used the word but rather repeated it again and again, to a point where it was cursing for cursings sake, but what ticked me off was that instead of saying, yeah maybe it wasn't the best we should probaly try and make sure it doesn't happen so frequently again, they came back justifying it for arts sake. one word.... Standards.

The very sound of that Finucane woman makes my blood boil. I think Vincent Browne is on at the right time. I just wish he would scrap the music and the time wasting talking to the bloody sports reporter at the start of the programme.

I listen fairly regularly to Late Date. Lilian Smith is reasonable good, if not a bit repetitive with too much "Francis Albert" etc. however Val Joyce is nothing short of a disaster. I reckon that there is hardly a night that goes by that he does not make a mistake regarding the equipment. Also his voice is much lower than the music and if you have the music at normal in the room you cannot hear what Val is saying. well past retirement age imho.
