Is this a sign of the apocalypse?

WFT? I was 10 and was told 'the facts of life' and that Santa doesn't exist in the same year.

But did it affect me in the long term? *twitch* No.

Regarding the girl, for all those who say "ohhh, under-class background, breeding like scum etc", a friend of mine is a social worker in the south east of England and I remember a conversation I had with her about that previously mentioned girl of 12 in Sheffield who had a baby two years ago.

She told me that this happens a more often in middle-class families than working-class families, but middle-class parents have the resources and education to hush it up. The media in the UK can't report this kind of story regarding a minor without getting parental consent, and usually not without paying a substantial figure to the parents for it either.

On the whole it's more an indictment of the UK tabloid press than UK society.

Man, that is depressing. And it happened on a night out. A night out? She's 11. That poster who blamed a lack of money presumably meant abject poverty. But promiscuous behaviour at a ridiculously young age isn't limited to poor areas by any means. Remember the Old Wes scandal? Clocking up as many snogs as you can manage a night has now been replaced by blowjobs. As if those girls actually want to do it...

i didnt mean that in a snobbish way its just from what ive seen and heard this happens quite a bit in areas of poverty the kids drop out of school etc etc.and fair enough it happens everywhere but lots of the time poor parents dont have enough funds to keep there kids in school and look after them properly and they end up running riot.

Oh I know you didn't mean it in a snobbish way. It's just that some people might have misunderstood what you meant by lack of money. I think it's totally fair to link this issue with extreme poverty. I was talking to a sociology lecturer who has done a lot of research into the area and it seems that having a baby at a very young age is a rite of passage for young girls in underprivileged areas. It's kind of like they want to make something of their life but education, a profession etc are out of the question, so being a mother is a good role to aspire to. When my mate worked in Roches nursery department in the Ilac Centre, 10 and 11-year-old girls would constantly come up to her asking if they'd have such and such a buggy, pram etc in stock in four or five years' time for when they were starting families. It's naive and silly really, rather than being hard and jaded as these kids are so often depicted.

I have just been reading about the issue of uks youngest mother and i know how difficult it can be to be a young parent, but people seem to be fixating on matters of class and creed which is trival in comparison to what motivated this eleven year old child to engage in sexual activites?what has prompted this, the abstinence of censorship and abudance of aggressive sexual violence and objectivity of women?these are the only so called female role models we have in this media driven society.what about male role models are they as objectively sexualised, which brings me to my point of motivating factors, what has motivated this young girl?and more importantly does this leave her more or less vunerable to predators??

I'm no legal expert so take with a grain of salt, but...

The age of criminal responsibility in the UK is 10 or something isn't it, so I suppose he can be tried for a crime (here, rape - girl too young to give informed consent) if he is > than that age.

They are both below the age of consent (16 or so???).

15 vs 11 is a large age/development gap and the boy is to blame, but trying him for rape seems over the top IMO. Even if he is a card-carrying memeber of the patriarchal oppressor-class!;)
The age of criminal responsibility is 10 in England and Wales, and 8 in Scotland (where the girl is from).

Taken from Wikipedia on the age of consent...
In Scotland most sexual offences are contained in the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995 , which replaced the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 1976. For heterosexual acts the age of consent is 16, with increased penalties for offences involving girls under 13.

The only thing that's disgusting about that is the man who raped a 5 year old. It's not like she'd know what the score is, now is it?

Your the one that raised the issue of underprivleged areas, and not trying to sound snobbish. Get you nose outta the air and come back down to reality love.

You dont want to sound snobbish, but most teen pregnancies occur in underprivlaged areas, that does sound sound snobbish, and you have no statisics to back it up.
