Just confirmed there, the line up is.......(drum roll please!)...........:

    Joe Dolan,
    ably assisted by:
    Declan Nearny and Dickie Rock.
The Brose Walsh band are scheduled to be there too!

Man, tickets will be hard to find for this!!!!!!:D

Think my mum will be making her first visit to see Joe play an open-air show!

Lets get a petition going for Daniel O' Donnell to be added in there! A real,all-Irish affair we could make it

    Green Day suck!
They're about as good as Busted or McFly. The only difference is they're older. They're songs are just as simple and crap.
Pearl Jam would be an amazing headline act. Whatever retard said that Pearl Jam could be supporting Green Day better give himself a smack on the head. Thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Theres not a chance Pearl Jam would be a support band after 15 years of headlining stadiums especially to a **** punk/pop band like Green Day:mad:

Clearly an intelligent statement from a 13 year old full-of-anguish and disdain for the modern world! :D

Sorry to bump this seemingly vanished thread, but can anyone shed any light on the apparent Red Hot Chili Peppers rumour? And a nasty rumour at that, in my opinion. I love the Chili's but for them to headline (and they will get the crowd) twice in THREE years stinks of desperation from the promoters, to me.... they're Ireland's ultimate 'safe bet' band.

Oh and dont ask me to name a source for this, I dont have one. People keep coming into the shop I work in asking when 'the Chili's Slane tickets' go on sale... so I thought Id put it to you guys and see if anyone knows more.

Wouldn't count on any rumours.. heard one today of:

    Green Day,
    Foo's,
    The Killers

But as for the Chili's - can't see them playing twice in Ireland in one summer.

I was in town the other day, noticed a Heineken Music banner up in Centra. Said Slane 2006 on it.

So that's the first "official" mention of Slane 2006 I've seen.

Thats something like the rumoured line-up I heard a while ago.... and I do mean 'a while' ago, it was after Oxegen last year. Yeah, I find it hard to believe that Chili's would headline Ireland's two major music festivals.... From the said line-up, Id bump Green Day, have Foo's headline and maybe add Audioslave or QOTSA or Muse maybe.... I know, I know.... dream on...

    Foo fighters
    QOTSA
    MotorHead

^Hmmm.....just a thought tho. Thats the line-up for the hyde park gig. Its not competely unbelievable that they would play slane, although motorhead are playin the point later on in the year. I think angels and airwaves(or whatever that bands called) are playin at that hyde park gig also.

Was it not supposed to the the smashing pumkins rumoured for slane...thats what i herd newhoo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,168 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Smashing Pumpkins wont be touring by slane! System of A Down would be so very sweet, but so would anything involving QOTSA!

As long as its a b*llock-out rawwk gig, I'll be happy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,168 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

On a second taught...definately System of a Down! I never rated Mesmerize much, but its just 36 minutes of headbangin fun! Throw that in on top of Hypnotize, Toxicity and Steal This Album!, and ya have some mental, metal fun!

I've been checking the Slane castle website regularly and it says "check back soon for more details about the Slane 2006 concert".

I don't think it's impossible for Green Day to play it. The reason they're not touring this year is because they have no new material. There's nothing to say that if they played Slane this year that it would be the same as the American Idiot tour, it could be more general, with older stuff as well.

As for the person who said they "suck" (which I think is a really poor term to use if you're trying to make a criticism against someone), I really don't think it's fair to say something like that.. they're more successful than you or I, or most people will ever be, so they must be doing something right. You don't have to like them, but you can't say that they're bad, because they do what they do and are clearly quite good at it.

I'm hoping for Green Day to play this year.

slanefestival.com is NOT the official site, it was ran by a guy i knew, he wanted this year to run his site and use a forum on goldenplec but it never worked out

Greenday have said on their website, no more touring till the new album

Pearl jam already have an irish date

muse is plausible but i wouldnt hold my breath

Ac/Dc would be great but how realistic is it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

I think mountcharles said he would never play slane again after last years debacle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,160 ✭✭✭dionsiseire

Mount Charles swore last year he'll never let eminem near slane castle ever again after last year

that and eminem is supposedly hanging up his mic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,168 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Didnt he say no rap/hip-hop acts would play again? so we might get a rock day out of it again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,160 ✭✭✭dionsiseire

he might have generalised like that alright

    BUT

in fairness bar eminem i dont know one hip hop artist who realistically would sell out slane. so it kind of rules itself out as a genre

i would say with muse and the new album out soon, which by the way is very different from their normal stuff
i would say muse is the most plausible so far

though august 27th they are playing reading

so it wont be on that date if muse is right

    I agree,
To be a true green day fan you have to relate emotionally to their songs, and not everyone can do that i think. you dont give a f*** what people think and your not afraid to admit that your a minority.. thats what its all about i think

i hope they play Slane aswell. I am an alsolutely devoted fan.. (they're all i listen to) but its nearly impossible that they'll play Slane. they are making an album right now.. and green day are not in the habit of doing once off gigs. plus, if they did, they wouldn't pick this country to do it.. i'm sure they have been invited to numerous events this summer across europe and probably wont play them, so why would they play Slane. ?
I could be wrong now but i doubt it!
