    No, they haven't..

    .. that is all!

How likely is it that Green Day will play considering they aren't touring this year? The last time they played live, as far as I can see, was December 2005. Also, at the end of their Oxegen gig they said they "probably won't be back for a very long time".

The latter part of your post would suggest not very likely

I read somewhere (can't remember where!) that the latest rumour is Green Day supported by Pearl Jam. Personally I'm hoping for Green Day.

Anyway I wish they'd hurry up and announce it! After the disasters that were Madonna (who said she had a sh1t time playing it) and then Eminem who cancelled, they'd really wanna get their act together.

I'm 90% certain it will be Green Day playing Slane. They've been strongly rumoured for months, a long article in a well known paper was written about them been lined up for Slane and the fact that Mountcharles badly needs this years Slane to be a massive success with regards to ticket sales and kudos from the mainstream, Green Day are the most obvious headliners.

With Pearl Jam headlining Reading/Leeds around the same time as Slane it could well be likely that they will be supporting Green Day. Pearl Jam would be a big pull.

Green Day don't seem to have any other gigs lined up all summer, and most certainly have no reason to bring the exact same show on the exact same album promotion tour back here over a year after they last played.
if they were playing elsewhere then possibly. as hings stand at the moment, i'm 99.999% sure they won't be playing.
there is absolutely NO decent reason why they'd be playing, apart from the fact that they'll whore themselves to any promoter in an attempt to make money over the last few years, but everyone needs some time off...
rumours don't mean jack ****, regardless of what newspaper prints them.

Pearl Jam definitely had a summer outdoor concert in Ireland lined up, and there was a leaked list of their dates some months back which had Slane down, but it's authicenty was in doubt.

latest i've heard is PJ + Muse, which could be possible as Muse seem to have completely passed Ireland over in their summer festival touring... also both of them would be big enough to sell out Slane, along with a few similar bands, very much a repeat of the type of crowd that RHCP drew when they played last...

Doubt Green Day will be touring again this year. They're not doing any of the big UK festivals and they already played two massive shows at Milton Keynes Bowl last summer.

Can't say that the future is bright for Slane 2006 either.

PJ and Muse would be another 100 odd wuid i need to find pronto...

Maybe AC/DC might come this year. They have been suggested every year for the las tcouple of years so maybe Lord Mountcharles might try swing it to get the crowd back on slanes side after the last 2 years

Suggested here. And never with any basis in fact.

I'm a member of their fan club....as it stands now, Green Day are NOT playing any more shows. They have finished the tour for American Idiot. The next tour will be for the new album.

---Now that's taken from the administrators, directly---

But, now that Pearl Jam are confirmed for the Point, they still don't have someone to play Slane. But if Green Day played Slane, they would be doing other touring. I can't imagine them coming over here just to play one show, they fly back to Oakland.

I hope it's all explained soon, all these rumours!!

Green Day anoraks have got to stop repeating this. And there is every chance they could play by the way. It's all business.

pfft green day put on a terrible show anyway, any clipe can go 'heyyyyyy oooooohh' and 'ole ole ole' and any clipe could write those songs, i pray to god they dont play, or ill lose all the respect i ever had for slane i mean in 2003 it was fantastic, to madonna (terrible) to a canceled bunch of rappers i mean its is generally a good day out and can be made great with some good bands and its not like there isnt the bands there, i mean i hate u2 but hell its way better than ****ing madonna...though when i weigh green day and u2 together im not sure who i hate more...probably green day for their east bay roots, u2 have always been crap

I'm just saying it as it actually is. I have no idea what will happen. I'm getting this from the fan club.

I know there is every chance of them playing, but there was also "confirmation" of them playing the Heineken festival this month, and that was just a rumour. Besides, at Oxegen they said they wouldn't be back for a very long time....we'll just have to wait and see. But I would be very surprised if they played here and didn't play any shows anywhere else.

Know for a fact they've been asked to play Slane (before Oxegen), also know for a fact that during interviews in Punchestown they said they'd be privileged to highlight.

Word within media circles is that it's a done deal

If Muse played I'd go. What are the chances of that?? (directed to the people who seem to know!!)

Really.....that doesn't say alot. That was ages ago.

But that sounds promising. I just hope they confirm it soon (if it actually hapens)

    Sorry to clarify.....

Between being booked for Oxegen 05 and actually playing the festival they were asked to come back and play Slane 06

Anyone got an idea of a rough date for an official release?

Yeah it would of course be out of the ordinary since they're not promoting anything at the moment, but it's not unlikely.

Personally, having missed them 5 times in two years, and having actually had tickets for two of those 5 times (things went wrong!), I'm dyyying to see them. Although that desire of mine is seriously exhuasted at this stage, so I'm not getting my hopes up!

    Muse supporting would be...... yay!!!

So Pearl Jam definately out of it, Green Day not lookin likely cos of not tourin, it leaves the rumour mill open for Muse to play. Hmmm...Slane would be no Olympia but still good to see them. Another band i would like to see but its slim chances that it would happen would be Foo Fighters supported by Queens of the Stone Age. That would be a dream gig for me

Foo's Came in the Summer (oxegen) and just before Christmass, they have no Tours coming up, and aren't doing any Festivals. So i dout it.

Well they are doin Hyde Park but that is in middle of june. Thats where that glimmer of hope comes from. And my god, System would be unbelievable at Slane.

Hey, wait there, i'd go to a gig to see QOTSA over any other band on this planet. How i wish they would play the Olympia in June as warm up for the Hyde Park gig

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound bitchy. It's just hard to believe they will actually come back, only to Ireland. They said at Oxegen that they wouldn't be back for ages, so why would they say they'd play Slane? I haven't got a clue what they're doing.

But the sources closest to them are saying no.

Oh me too! If they played here again, the fourth time in two years?? I would go insane!! I really wish they do play, but I'm just not getting my hopes up either, as it could be just another bull**** rumour like the Heineken festival.

Maybe a good indication is the Reading line up, which is on around the same time. I'd say Muse and Audioslave are both possibilities, but I can't see either headlining.

    Green Day suck!
They're about as good as Busted or McFly. The only difference is they're older. They're songs are just as simple and crap.
Pearl Jam would be an amazing headline act. Whatever retard said that Pearl Jam could be supporting Green Day better give himself a smack on the head. Thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Theres not a chance Pearl Jam would be a support band after 15 years of headlining stadiums especially to a **** punk/pop band like Green Day:mad:

Sorry to bump this seemingly vanished thread, but can anyone shed any light on the apparent Red Hot Chili Peppers rumour? And a nasty rumour at that, in my opinion. I love the Chili's but for them to headline (and they will get the crowd) twice in THREE years stinks of desperation from the promoters, to me.... they're Ireland's ultimate 'safe bet' band.

Oh and dont ask me to name a source for this, I dont have one. People keep coming into the shop I work in asking when 'the Chili's Slane tickets' go on sale... so I thought Id put it to you guys and see if anyone knows more.

Wouldn't count on any rumours.. heard one today of:

    Green Day,
    Foo's,
    The Killers

But as for the Chili's - can't see them playing twice in Ireland in one summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

I was in town the other day, noticed a Heineken Music banner up in Centra. Said Slane 2006 on it.

So that's the first "official" mention of Slane 2006 I've seen.

Thats something like the rumoured line-up I heard a while ago.... and I do mean 'a while' ago, it was after Oxegen last year. Yeah, I find it hard to believe that Chili's would headline Ireland's two major music festivals.... From the said line-up, Id bump Green Day, have Foo's headline and maybe add Audioslave or QOTSA or Muse maybe.... I know, I know.... dream on...

    Foo fighters
    QOTSA
    MotorHead

^Hmmm.....just a thought tho. Thats the line-up for the hyde park gig. Its not competely unbelievable that they would play slane, although motorhead are playin the point later on in the year. I think angels and airwaves(or whatever that bands called) are playin at that hyde park gig also.

Smashing Pumpkins wont be touring by slane! System of A Down would be so very sweet, but so would anything involving QOTSA!

On a second taught...definately System of a Down! I never rated Mesmerize much, but its just 36 minutes of headbangin fun! Throw that in on top of Hypnotize, Toxicity and Steal This Album!, and ya have some mental, metal fun!
