It has no business taking place no matter when its happening.I'm not bitter i just hate idle layabout,tree-sucking,good-for-nothing,useless,smelly scrotes disrupting the city because of some half-baked hippy idealism.

Why not? I do (Sadnyford - terenure) Weather's great and I've lost nealy two stone in six months. And it costs nothing. If you live in Mullingar, get the train.

Some day you'll be expected to walk anyway because the government will tell you you ARE damagaing the environemnt.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Demonstrations shouldn't take place...? Nice to know we live in a democracy. You're second setence is an oxymoron.

I think through all the ridiculous name calling and labelling so far in this thread people are completly missing the point, imho the idea behind the reclaim the streets is quite valid one. I'm currently living in Praha and there was a critical mass cycle here last week which passed off without incident and actually raised the debate about in what kind of way we use our civic space, what kind of eviroment we live in, in our cities. This city along with many more all around Europe are moving more towards a pedestrian orrientated enviroment which is actually welcomed.
Now I've been to Dublin many times and I find it's the most bloody stressful, noisy, polluted place to walk around I've ever been and lots of people who have visited comment on this, it's a shame because Dublin can be extremely good craic so I can see no reason why this question shouldn't be raised for debate to try and make Dublin a more harmonious and better place to live.
Anyways gotta run, I've got a very important hugging session with some trees in half an hour, TAXI! :)

Noone trying to actually take a constructive part in a debate could possibly expect to be taken seriously putting their argument forward in such an agressive manner..... or could they?

you may think its stupid but you only get one shot at enjoying this world and for me that does not equal driving around in a little tin box and working your self to death in persuit of meaningless items.

But if we all acted like hippies and didnt work or pay tax then where would the money come from that the lazy layabout hippies scrounge from our tax system? :)

thank you for that pearl of wisdom Jimmy, do you think that none of the people that reclaim the streets work? get real. its on a bank holiday so people can go cause they're not in work and so it causes less disruption to commerce.

And because they know they're going to be unpopular and doubly so if they cause any REAL disruption. Its all completely pointless, another way of diverting Garda resoources away from where they're badly needed.Selfish wasters.

I fail to see how me walking to work instead of getting the bus is going to make the oil reserves last any longer. Are they going to stop manufacturing plastic as well...plastic that for example is made into 2 litre cider bottles so beloved of big-isssue sellers?

It;s not just you - it's everyone - why should the world revolve around you..?
What do cider and the big issue have to do with anything?

Would you not be too busy looting champion sports like said group on the day of the Ulster Love Parade in town?

Do you mean since 2000? :p I accept you can keep the motorways.
    JimmySmith wrote:
If there were no cars your streets would be mud piles and you would not be able to cycle on them.
Really? But its motor vehicles than do the most damage.
If you want the streets so much then i suggest you pay road tax which keeps them in good enough shape for all road users to use then.
The is no road tax in Ireland. Do you mean Motor Tax? Whcih goes to the Local Government Fund and can be spent on anything?

Ppl have the right to use their cars as much as they like IMO. Enviromentalists are about as relevent as a fly on the windowsill.

We-hay! Another narrow-minded slefish ****-everyone else post!

So what's your plan when we suddenly realise we've got cars everywhere and no space for new roads...? (It's amazing how quickly drivers either shut up or go on selfish power-crazed rants when you ask this question....)

Point about environmentalists is taken, but then so is the fact that we live in a filthy, polluted and lazy city.

Yeah, maybe in 500 years. I will dead and gone by then, why should I care?

Selfish one, then... and I'm told the timescale is more like 50, judging by Dublin's economic growth and expansion. Still, if that waht you want for your kids...
